Whenever I write something in haste, I'm usually never happy with it. My previous version was I think too cynical. Some people prefer blurbs and brief statements to communicate, while I prefer more elaboration. If something is not up to the "Prenzlau" standard then a re-write is the proper course.

A top 10 leader board, Hall of Fame list, or any other mechanism for comparison that is view by "the public" or "peers", is in essence an opportunity for an individual to display a level of competency. There are leader boards that might display quality and there are leader board that might display quantity. As for the current top ten leader boards (for each nation, minus China and France), it is an accumulation of personal points. This is mostly an endurance race, in which the #1 player is usually the player who is willing to play more battles than the next player.

Every person has a certain level of vanity attached to their personality, and since people are unique, these levels may vary. Generally people have a psychological need (and desire) to be accepted, to be approved, and to have their stature elevated through recognition. This is part of the social aspect of existing in a society. What could be described as excessive vanity or arrogance, is far more of an objective judgment that is usually a bias one. Do we as people complain about other people, their habits, behaviors and actions? You better believe it! Actually complaining for many people takes up more of their time and emotional energy then they would probably admit too. This forum is a grand well spring of complaints. The act of complaining when broken down is an attempt to acquire or gain another person's agreement (their opinion and usually a sympathetic one), that what you feel or believe is right in some way. I call this agreement (from other people) "validation". We commonly seek validation from others of our thoughts, feelings, opinions, and actions. Friends tend to validate a lot while critics and neutral people tend to invalidate or even try to disprove.

When I think of vanity or even arrogance, it is a compulsion to go beyond what would be considered the norm, or normal range, of behaviors or actions, (as I have stated above) to not only acquire or gain what would be considered a normal level of acceptance and recognition, but rather a self centered or self absorbed level of hyper inflated egotism. Vanity or arrogance in many cases is an emotionally based anxiety due to the fear of not being accepted, recognized, or elevated in stature. That is however, only a part of it for vanity and arrogance is also a belief. Often the belief itself is the creator of the anxiety. Also the need for control, which may mean manipulation or efforts to control the actions or opinion/beliefs of others. There is large amount of "gray" when any person self reflects, because the validation or acceptance is usually provided by other people. How much does any given person steer their behaviors and actions based on the reactions and feedback of other people, well that is highly subjective over a very large range indeed. It is when behaviors or actions are perceived to be beyond what most consider the normal range or normality that we take notice and possibly react.

The human psychology is often a mirrored path of quagmire and ambiguity. We judge by comparisons, which allow perspective, but in turn these same judgments lead to validation or invalidation, which creates disparity, which creates the need for compensation, which often leads to actions or behaviors that exceed or fail to fall into what we would describe as normality or the normal range. I would like to quickly interject that any concept of normality or normal range is in itself a collective belief system, therefore you could have entire groups or populations being labeled or described as "vain or arrogant".

Lastly, I've been labeled as arrogant and egotistical, called names and had my character personally attacked on many occasions. I would like to assert that from my point of view it all seems like a misidentification and attempts to disqualify me or not give me the respect and recognition that I might deserve. If someone can do something, they are not really arrogant, for the resistance is in the belief that someone can or should not do something. This is when the anxiety manifests in those who have made their own comparisons, and decided that any sort of respect or validation given the other person (Prenzlau), would lower their stature or self image when compared to the greater group. So in essence I'm not the one being arrogant for I am being exactly who I am and displaying the level of validation which I can follow through with. It is actually arrogant of those who are disrespectful and flagrant with their attempts to disqualify me because they observe the discrepancy and fear it while I observe it and embrace it.

Never underestimate the power of a billboard. Here I was thinking all along that it was competition that was needed but all WG ever had to do was just put up a bunch of top 10 lists, and that alone brings out all the naysayers and stubborn stalwarts who would not play the game otherwise. If WG had any sense they would make these lists permanent for they are like shiny mirrors to the players who love to look at them. I'm not being critical, or sarcastic, oh no, I'm being truthful through observation. The more lists the better! It fixes the game by mesmerizing the grandiose! The egotistical and vain cannot resist. Like ye ole jousts of old, if it is in front of an audience, it is all good. This game miraculously seems so much the better now...

Nah, the ratings as they are now only reward no lifers.

A better system would count weighted ratios of different tasks and failures above a minimum battle count threshold.
