I was doing some research into aircraft to flesh out a post in another thread when I ran into something very interesting.

Ladies and gents, I present to you the US Bomber that should be considered for tier 8 on the soon-to-come American bomber Line, incomplete or otherwise.

The B-45 Tornado.

I just love stumbling into this stuff. :D

EDIT: I just also found a bomber aircraft for T7!

Here is the XB-28 Dragon.

The Catalina as a bomber? Bad choice, as with any amphibious patrol aircraft as a bomber.  I'd got for the B-10 at Tier 3 and the A-20 at Tier 4. They're suited for their respective tiers and timeline within the US Army Air Corps.

And no offense Greg, but whip out a book sometime. Your knowledge of the "famous stuff" is a bit muddled.

Everything that made the Catalina ideal for long range maritime recon and patrol would work against it in this game. It had long range but low airspeed, which was ideal for anti submarine/shipping and loitering for hours over a patrol grid. If you want to be a target for everything at low tier, be my guest.

Quote, "B-52 is OP". I laughed a little when I saw it suggested. As the old US Air Force training film on the B-52 cites, one Stratofortress carries more firepower than all the munitions dropped in WW2.

I personally hope to see the B-36 above all... I don't mind if it's all propeller-powered (it has a 10-engine later model with 4 jet engines added)

That refers to nuclear bombs.  The heaviest payload a B-52 with the Big Belly mod, a D model, carried was 32 tons of iron bombs.

Quite aware of that. The B-52 was originally designed as a nuclear deterrent, with conventional payloads coming into practice during the Vietnam War. The very thought of introducing a bomber carrying 80,000 tons of conventional ordnance is beyond ludicrous.

I am aware the PBY was slow but it cant be better at everything.  Compared to the do17 tier 4 bomber it has twice the bombload (4000lbs vs 2205lbs) and better defensive armament with .50cal guns as opposed to 7.92mm.  If WOWP gave it more hp it would be a good trade off.  With the Catalina's reputation for ruggedness it would make sense too.  I would take the black cat over the flying pencil any day if that were the case.  I'm not trying to say that the Catalina is the best but it is certainly one of the most iconic planes of the pacific war.

I repaired B-52s for ten years, including SEA in 68 and 72-73.
