I think it should be an ingrained mechanic of conquest.

I would love to have a CAS mode, where you would either have to defend against GAA attack on your front line forces, or defend your GAA against interceptors.  it would be waves of bot GAA trying to attack a lot of point targets (like artillery, tank platoons, infantry formations, ammo dumps, whatever), and if the attackers were successful, you'd lose.  On the other hand, if you shoot down the GAA and save enough of your ground forces, you win.  MRF get assigned to team depending on load-out - if you have rockets and bombs, attack.  Clean, defend.  Same for heavy fighters.

If you're talking about a dedicated low or medium height Combat Air Patrol with fighter and/or MR escort for us GA pilots, I'd love to see it.  Hell, I'd divvy up my rewards with any pilot(s) working to keep my six clean while I`m ground pounding.

GAs are flying bait as it is and having those dumba_ss Spec wings on my insignia is like waving steak at hungry wolves.

Mind you, while flying Spec fighters I've gotten into some lengthy, vicious dogfights with other Spec fighters, so it does have its up side

...sort of

...for a bit....

There would have to be some of kind of worthwhile reward from WG ( hah, right, what am I even thinking!? ) for flying declared, dedicated CAP at game start, a variation on flighting up, and also sticking with it because most players understandably have other priorities and there would need to be some sort of penalty for deserting your charge.

Same principle as volunteering to be a flak ship for a CV in WoWS, which I`ve done.  You get nothing for it but a snarky remark from WG in the summary sheet about not carrying your weight in the fight when you`ve spent the whole game covering someone else's a$$.

GA in a busy cap is suicidal and is to assiduously avoided.  When the furball is all that's left on the map I invariably get bounced by something so dying outside the cap area to avoid degrading the team's standing is almost impossible when you're flying between buildings, the only exception being the Russian female vunderpilot who blows the bejayzus out of everything around her when she gets killed.  Dat my fave IL-2 out of my GA collection so far.

Like a few other players, I play solo (nods to Chuck Norris) so I'm kind of curious; do Clan members team up to help out their GA guys?  If so, how does it work out?  Is it worth it?  It worked in RL but the dynamics are different here, of course.  I think clan may be the only place it might be made to work, trikke.  It's a dog-eat-dog world and I'm wearing Milkbone underwear.

I'd try it for another GA pilot but as trikke has pointed out before, you'd need well-developed situational awareness (mine's rocky) and at times it's hard to not go bounding off after something shiny.  It may just be too hard to keep your eye on the ball with this but it could worth a little experimentation if you could figure out how to join up during the MM, or before, or whatever...I fly solo, remember?

It would be kinda cool.  Maybe put in some bridge targets to prevent the enemy infantry and armor from flooding in.  I've always wondered why there aren't bridges.  They were prime targets during wartime.

There are some maps with bridges, great big juicy ones and they are in the cap zones.  It would be nice if WG made them destructable so we could do more than fly under them.  :izmena:

Agreed.  If they aren't destructible they are nothing more than eye candy for a bomber.

:teethhappy:  for this alone it gets a +1  You made other good points as well.

As to clans helping in flights?  It can work.
A fellow GAA on voice comms can coordinate sztrikes to not waste ordinance hitting the same targets. This will flip caps extra quick.
Which is important because thats twice the milk bone smell.  And when competent humans get a wiff of a GAA flight ... its dinner time.

And a Multirole with a ground strike package is ... just ... wonderful.
Watching your 6 between caps, finishing off the occasional building that you missed, and quickly deleting an enemy GAA in the area .

Heavies and Bombers and B&Z Light fighters are not ideal. they DO draw off the attention of  Heavy ADA that can kill you fast ...
but have a tendency to fly away too fast for you to keep up or just fly too high to support you well though

Light Turn Fighters generally have sluggish cruise speeds so they dont necessarily wander off ... but their pilots have the attention span of goldfish.
It helps to spell out for them that you are gonna be live bait so plz plz plz prioritize the baddies that are putting holes in your plane and not the giant dogfight in the middle of the map.

i think if they did that it would be interesting... but i also think every one would  bring out all there ga s,  so i am not sure how they  would balance this but i would like to see some thing like this.. how would bomber be played it this mode ..

It's a 'Service Award' medal.

Looks like they're for the BEM ... there are also medals for 'escort bombers' en 'suppress AA'.

Sure they are as they are awarded for fulfilling the aircraft type-specific missions which are available only for the Bomber Escort Mode.
