WG seems to be throwing an event every quarter.  Every event lights up the forum and admittedly brings more than 2 people into a match.  Good, right?

Not really.  There's a decompression that makes folks expect to earn extra rewards for playing/grinding.  When there is no extra reward for playing a match folks don't want to play as much.  Other than a few missions to take a break from the grind regular mode just feels pointless.

I dunno.  Granted the events are for the most part lopsided affairs with poorly-thought-out competitive situations, but what does one expect from a group that does not play their own game in realistic settings?

They do draw more players into the game at least for the event.  There does seem to be a lingering effect as players might play more in between event stages to gain Specialist or gather tokens to spend on crates.

If they keep rotating events, I think you will see more players trying to, for example, farm tokens so they can buy more loot.  I know I do.  I basically play to earn tokens because I like a big bank of XP, Free XP, Tokens and Gold.  That is my main motivation.

Why do I care about such trinkets you might ask?  Because I do.  And I hold out the hope that somewhere down the line there will come a time when all my hoarding will pay off in some major battle royale.  Until then, I gather.  I'm rich, I'm a happy miser.

In my opinion, on the short term, these events attract just more players to the game.
But if your honest, most of these events are just poorly balanced and most of the time riddled with bugs.
So maybe on the long term, they might even scare off a fair percentage of players.

Personally i have never seen WoWP as dead as it is now in between events.
Played some games yesterday, big cheers when i had at least one extra human as teammate.
I have never seen this game suffer so much in terms of population as it did in the past year.

In my opinion the main issue is that bots never can be intelligent enough to play these "tactical" gamemodes.
These gamemodes might be fun when played by more or less capable humans, but when you are the only human at your side, bots will ruin everything.
I vouch to return to a simple gamemode, where bots will have less inlfuence with their poor decisionmaking, where humans have more control over the bots at their side.
The only mode that really comes to mind is a deathmatch, because you only have one rule to follow.
If population reaches a viable number, then start adding these other modes (bomber escort, invasion, attrition) as extra gamemodes or as some sort of clan wars (because thes modes only become fun when you have two teams who make coordinated moves and above all they know what they are doing)

The reason we are seeing so many events now is because it was the solution to the problem of population...3 years ago.

An event in WOWP would spike the peak concurrent users to 1000 players from roughly ~400-700.

Now these poorly tested/balanced/bugged events chase away players.:hiding:

I know...they could have plane anniversaries as an incentive!

You know, something like..3 years ago you purchased this tier 7 aircraft.  You have 7 days to fly 14 battles and a win will net you so many thousands of free xp once, and 3x experience and 3x silver...something like that...maybe 5 days premium for your tier 10s?

I vaguely recall playing a flight game that had that cool feature...it even let you use that free xp in their other tank game...however, stupidly, or via sheer ineptitude, they didn’t let that transfer over to their ship game!?  Bizarre, right?  ...I think that company has gone out of business, or makes iPhone/Android candy crush clones..which is fortunate because they were initially all about competitive pvp type esport gaming...with clan wars and other forms of end game...which no one wants to do online anymore.  True story bro!

...and that game's now dead, and buried...:sceptic:

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...

And it is a shame.  Those Anniversaries used to give me the incentive to climb out of my comfort zone and try other planes in my stable.

But, I guess they know best.  I know they think they know best but it is hard to understand for me.  Does not compute.
