My P-38F, beaufighter, and IL-2 (mod) are all in their specialist configuration. They allow you to toggle ordnance (rockets, bombs) on and off. I usually run my heavies without ordnance for extra speed and maneuverability.

For some odd reason, the Bf110E specialist configuration forces you to take bombs, with no option to remove them. Surely this is an oversight by the developers and isn't intended?

Sadly, it seems to be intended ... Specialist is what WG considers the best setup for that plane. Often it conflicts with what the pilot (you) considers best or just prefers.

For instance on the Me-410 I prefer the 20mm guns (better rate of fire, range) but Specialist forces me to use 30mm. Only solution is to select Stock again (and lose equipment slots and advanced/ultimate equipment)

Yes, what Goner said.  Persha, in their infinite wisdom of all that is good, decided that Specialist meant the maximum weapons load for all planes.  There was some chatter on the forums from WG that they would enable a select few planes to be specialized without having to go with what they determined the maximum load is, but that chatter has halted.

In the meantime, what I have been doing is taking some planes and choosing the max loadout while not specialized and seeing if I like it.  For some I do, for others, nope, nope, nope.

It's a very limiting factor when they advertised that 2.0.5 would allow greater customization and then the killed the ability to customize in terms of weapons loadout upon specialization.  Very counterintuitive but what do you expect?  I suspect the programming effort to allow customization of weapons loadout within specialist is something that is too much for them to handle.  Therefore, you get stuck with a loadout that you might not like should you choose to specialize.  This does not have a massive effect for fighters or bombers or to a certain extent GAs, but for Multi-roles and Heavies, it sucks.  Then again, the muli-roles have been neglected by Persha for so long it's not a surprise and for Heavies, I doubt any of the developers play them beyond Tier 4 or 5 so they have not a clue.

PS:  btw Waffles, good to hear from you.  You have shot me down so many times I cannot count.
