In WW2 the Eighth Air Force had a problem. When flying in formation, of 100 planes lost, 48 were lost to fighters. When flying out of formation, the number rose to 98. So it was imperative to fly in formation and have interlocking fields of fire for the B24s and B17s.

But in radio silence, it was tough to get into formation, and it could take hours for a single air group to do so, and there were many air groups in a single raid. And as raids got bigger, it got tougher.

The solution was to designate certain planes to be Assembly Leaders. They did not have a bomb load, but had special flares, and unique markings on their tails and paint schemes, and planes would assemble on their designated leader for a given mission.

It would be cool if WG could make one or two of these paint schemes when bombers come.

For example

if i flew an german intercept fighter, i would aim for the clown car first

i would immediately guess that it was some kind of special leader, and i'd be right

surely this wasn't actually a thing... for very long

It was a thing for the war. They were stripped of weapons, everyone would form up and fly to battle, and then they would land

Yes, they lasted through the war. They were simple but effective.

I'm actually surprised that this topic hasn't come up before now given this was published a week ago:

I like it, but I think the real drawback is we don’t have B-24’s yet.

if the pilot's good, see, I mean, if he's really..sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low [he spreads his arms like wings and laughs],

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.

Disruption has always been my favorite scheme for Camo! I would love to see it in game!

As for Official Camo, we will see what can be done. As for the time being, there are many fine Camo Skin Creators out there that could help out now!

When it comes to computers, which is my profession, I am an analytical guy; I can't do this, so I put  it out there in hopes someone will.

“The sad truth is that the one thing around here is that we can always rely on is broken promises”& WarMagic the Scattering- Ace_BOTlistic_Cosmo █ If a company can't handle the truth based on pixelated facts then they shouldn't be in this industry to begin with. ahhh, well...  that makes complete sense now        of course they wouldn't make them fly all the way to Berlin     i'm an idiot

why didn't they just use a painted-up C-47 and use the bomber as a bomber?

had nobody invented high-visibility yellow or orange yet?

The problem with High Vis flat paint is the problem with orientation and distance when trying to lead a flight. It just ends up looking like a hard to see and hard to look at blob that you cannot differentiate orientation or movement on. "That yellow blob looks like it is changing, but I can't tell HOW."

Well, they only used old bomber airframes that could no longer stand being used on combat sorties. They would all be air frames that had taken significant damage from the enemy or from the way they were flown, and could no longer be trusted to fulfill their original role, and would otherwise thus be largely useless.

Seems like that could be solved with a strategic pattern... Nose colour X : Tail colour Z : Left wing colour A : Right wing colour B.
I don't want to hurt you... I just want to kill you!
