I’m still new and I wanted your opinions about the following planes and pilots. I just completed the Hurricane Mission, and I now have a chance to set up this new Hurricane, my Spitfire, and their pilots, to arrange them effectively and wisely supply them with skills. How would you arrange these pilots (I don’t mind retraining) and then which skills would you get for them?

Hurricane 1a (from Mission)

Spitfire I, fully upgraded, no equipment

Hurricane pilot (from Mission), +5 unallocated skill points. No current skills.

Spitfire pilot, +2 unallocated skill points. No current skills.

Thank you.

I would suggest just retraining the Hurricane pilot for the Spitfire. 5 skill points ain't cheap and will give you a massive leg up going forward.

Choose one as your prime pilot and use him for both planes since one of them is a premium plane - they're both fighters so they will benefit from the same skills and focusing on one means he gains XP twice as fast.

As for skills - my primary British pilot had Evasive, Aerodynamic Expert and Marksman I as his first three skills. He's only just gotten Aerobatic Expert. I kept him through the entire fighter line and only swapped him out because the tier X Swift is an entirely different beast.

Toss the Ia... or, keep her as a hangar queen.

The Tech tree Hurricane I is better than the Ia, and it has ordnance...

Spiritfox is right about using the 5 point pilot for your Spit, no downside there.

I like the la. Neat little fighter for t4 missions.

Put a sight with +10% chance of fire on it, staying low and smurfing away at GA's or fighters coming out of a dive.

OK, that makes sense. I forgot that the Hurricane 1a was a fighter rather than a multirole. I watched a video by Tironan in which he outfitted his Hurricane pilot with Marksman I & II and I was intrigued with the idea, since I think the plane is neither particularly fast nor very maneuverable. It's main strength is probably in its guns.

Other than the ordinance ordnance, why is the tech tree Hurricane better?

Thanks, you guys. You have all been so helpful and responsive in my learning phase of this game.

Ia is a fighter, but the tech tree MR version has the same/better stats in all areas, plus ordnance.

The only reason to keep the 1a is as a pilot trainer, more so right now since you're getting x2 pilot XP just for flying the plane over the next 7 days. It isn't a bad plane per-se and I'll probably sell my tech tree Hurricane I now because, well, its a very meh multirole (and better fighter) and I cannot use it as a pilot trainer.

I'll certainly be keeping my 1a. I have it outfitted as a tank right now.

That's what I did, too. Seems to work well.

I have retrained the +5 pilot for the Spitfire. Now I have the Hurricane 1a and a Fantome to train this pilot.

Kitsune Sensei, you mentioned Aerodynamics Expert. As I understand it, that only works for a plane that has maneuverability and speed equipment, is that right? Will that pilot skill be useful before I acquire Specialist for the plane?

Got to disagree, its a nice fighter for T4 missions.

You aren't wrong, but if I needed a tier 4 Light Fighter... I'd be looking at a 109 B, or perhaps an I-17.

Correct and... it depends. For tier I - VII planes, no. You don't have enough open slots. Tier VIII and above... it can still be useful depending on the plane.

Usually though there are better skills around for base planes and pilots. My go tos are Marksman I and Engine Guru I

Got to agree 109 B or I 17 when loaded up are just killers in the tier if you use them correctly.

Well, I've got one 9 point and a couple 10 point spitfire pilots. Aerobatics Expert, Aerodynamics Expert, and Fire fighter, followed by Engine Guru 1 & 2 have served me well.

i'm a crap pilot, so i skill every pilot with marksman one and two       two has a bit of auto-aim pixie dust sprinkled on it

if i can kill something quickly, i'm much safer than someone who has to tunnel-vision-stalk his prey all over the sky
