Only if they consistently offer parts for Gold or for sale in the premium shop. Otherwise its arguable

The problem with loot boxes in battlegrounds was it was tied to real money to get the premium loot. Not the case here, even when they sold the loot you got the same results as in game for free, and they don't even sell the loot last I looked.

I can play cards or play the lottery with fake money in Final Fantasy 14. With no real money or prizes it's not gambling

WG, at least in WoWp, walks that fine line between pay to advance and gambling as they milk customers by pushing them to frustration.

As for is this illegal gambling, well that depends on your state/national/or local laws in this matter.  I have noticed that Asia is the only region that doesn't have access to WoWp.  Asia is also that region that got hosed last X-Mas on the loot boxes, they only got gold and no decorations, due to Japanese laws on this issue.  As well PMM removal and EULA wording was hitting a snag with consumer laws in AU and NZ, as they got a different EULA update to the rest of Asia.

B.F Skinner would be proud of the calibration issue.  I believe he would call it Variable Ratio Positive Reinforcement.

This has been a 'current event' for like a year plus now. How and why is it relevant to WoWp? Other than being strenuously associated with Calibration ?

That kinda makes sense for why JPN test server (de facto Asia region; existing Asia account could be used to play) is still on 2.0.4...:sceptic:

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...

My understanding of loot boxes is that they weren't any different than those coin operated toy vending machines.

Spoiler
