Also the best Tier IV "dogfighter" is the Hurricane MK I. Although that's rather opinionated but I did quite well in that plane with the arsenal of 8x .303 bownings and 250lb bombs.

 

It was good although if you encountered a japanese fighter or an I-17 that wasn't an idiot you were dead unless you could kill him before he noticed you. It was my go to for the T1-4 missions before 2.0.5, feeling the love less now. I really want to be able to use an engine slot and an airframe slot on it once its specialist, not just an airframe and a stupid outboard weapon slot. Can't make up for the manuverability, speed, and engine power nerf that 2.0.5 gave mine. We'll soon have a new fighter rather than multirole version to play with though.

Edit: I wonder if this is supposed to be up already, they wouldn't show it on stream...

To see if Animal has, indeed, found a hidden gem, I bought the Fantome tonight with gold. I tend to do well in maneuverable planes such as the I-16(e), but in the first two battles with the Fantome, I was overwhelmed by enemy planes. One was all Tier IV. I noticed that Dancing Bear's glowing Youtube review was based on a battle with almost all Tier IIIs. On the other hand, my teams were awful in my two battles, so we'll see what happens if I have better support. I'll play more tonight.

 

[edit: I realized what I wrote was ambiguous. I added "by enemy planes" after "overwhelmed." I have not ha great success yet, although my later battles were a bit better than the first two.]

I thought of picking it up, too.  Then I watched some YouTube stuff, and noticed that folks mostly ignored the Fantome.  Usually, if a plane is dangerous, real players find out a way to shoot it down, instead of just flying by it.  Especially if the plane has a human pilot.

If you like maneuverable aircraft and like a t4 you might also like the the Ar 197, the german multirole. 2x20mm, 2x7.92mm and 4 bombs that will take out one of the AA sites with the 3 clustered bunkers that's marked with a triangle (low altitude AA) every time. similar maneuverability and speed to the fantome except it has 8.6 sec stock 360 turn time, although mine's currently at 8.0 without ultimate equipment, and it has 60 more hp, a full third more.

I just had my first battle against one of these. I was flying the Fantome. In the first engagement, her outfought me; in the seance one I came out on top. Seemed like an impressive plane. I'm looking into it.

About getting outmaneuvered in the Fantome - you might want to invest in learning some manual control schemes. While the basic controls will do against bots and other more casual players, the experienced lot will be using manual controls against you and they can get a plane to turn over 1s faster in a dogfight. Given the Ar197 and Fantome are within 1s turn rate of each other, a guy in the 197 who is using his full rudder/elevator/flaps on you will eat you alive.

I have the Fantome from a lootbox. Never played it - between the Bf109B and Ar197, I never saw a need. I'm not a fan of TnB much anyway.

 

Still - I'm a Boomerang/Focke Wulf/215.02 fan so... to each his own

The -109 is just better.  I prefer it at that tier.

109B is the tier 4 cancer. It's just so overwhelmingly superior to almost every other plane of the tier in the right hands. Of course you need to be good with mixed-medium energy fighter to get the most from it. I've killed plenty of 109s in the 197 because they tried to turn with me.

Thanks, I've been working with the rudder controls a bit, but I find myself preoccupied with keeping my mouse on its pad
