Do planes have armor? If they do, how does it affect my damage? Gamemodels3d shows IL-10 has 60 armor and B-32 has 0.

 

Why do some shots bounce off planes?

 

How much damage is reduced for shooting at ground targets?

 

Gamemodels3d shows the hitbox of air defence aircraft have different hitboxes than the regular plane. In fact it is sometimes smaller. Why?

I, too, would enjoy knowing the answer to these questions. Especially the first one. Do planes have an armor rating and if so.. why can we not see it?

In the Hanger UI go to the plane info window on the right.
where it mentions the ratings for various aspects of your plane open up the part of the menu for
Survivability and you will see ...
  • Hit Points                       xxxx
  • Resistance to Damage     xx
  • Resistance to Fire            xx


As far as i can tell the two resistance values are a percentage. Higher values are better.
I can confirm that when you get pilot skills or equipment that increases fire resistance by XX %;
this is the base value that gets increased by those percentages.
Presumably when you get skills or gear that increases damage reduction by various percentages
(Resilience, Battle tested, Evasive target, Cockpit/Engine armor, Reinforced Skin, Seasonal and Universal camo etc)
the Resistance to Damage value is the base number used  .


So i surmise that the Resistance to Damage value is as near as i can determine the closest thing to armor.

I don't know precisely how it works in the game to mitigate damage just that it does and that bigger numbers are on tougher planes.

I have always wondered what the difference is between fire tolerance and fire resistance.  I know larger numbers are good but I have never seen anything explaining the difference.  Typical.

I feel like, despite both IRL having a skin that one could literally punch a screwdriver through quite easily, my Do 217 M has a lot less armor than my B-17D, and takes damage much easier, especially from AA.(it loses more hp per AA hit than the B-17D, even though the latter has more health and doesn't need to take less damage per AA hit)

The number of times this happens just from comparing data from various "drop downs" in the User Interface is just ... infuriating.

 
For example ...

As far as i can tell, in this game Resistence is something that defends against instantaneous events.
while Tolerance is something that reduces damage over time.

Which is [edited]backwards from the skill Fire Resistance that reduces the both the damage per second and the total duration of a fire

1.)  Did you hide, or remove, the various stats that were available in 1.x?  For example, aircraft purchase date, flighted versus solo?

 

And if so, why?  Database size issues?  Carelessness?  An actual reason, not "we didn't feel the need to implement it"

 

2.)  What do the developers/WG see the reason to play this property is now?

To build stats?

Collect aircraft models?

Have social time with internet friends whilst casually tooting around maps shooting bots and the odd human?

Develop hand/eye coordination skills?

Competitive gaming league?

Generate as much income without any real short or long term vision?

 

3.)  Some WG input is welcome here, but why do I feel that as for having the three properties tied to each other there's been a push to separate them as much as possible.  Did I miss some news stories over the years, and can you point me to the current vision for the three?  I've heard economy differences, but wasn't WG known for it's mathematical calculation prowess?
