The more I try to force myself to push that Start button in WGC launcher for WOWP, the more I start to wonder - "What is all this grind for?" or "What are we working towards here?" or "Where does all this lead?"...

Since the launch of 2.0.5 I've found myself in a definitive decline in "wanting" to play this title. I know the solution is very simple - move on and play other games right? I'm actually doing that now as we speak (Playing some DS3 since the past 2 weeks - totally loving it - now there's a game done right with its multiplayer & pve elements - except not a big fan of the whole peer-2-peer thing. Makes things way too laggy. Kinda like here! Now dedicated servers for DS3... oh ya that would be heaven!).

But back to this game... idk man. It just seems to me these developer's decision with this game is going in the wrong direction moving forward from 2.0.5. If you look at the general consensus for feedback request of the recent specialist configuration thread... It really puts all my fears to light of where I think this game is headed. Asking feedback in the wrong areas of where the game could be done right or the fact that this title could be GREAT if the correct type of feedback is bring forwarded to this group in kyiv. But lets be honest it's not like our feedback many years ago or even now has even made an ounce of difference. We all know what would save this game - Endgame content geared towards MMO clan & team orientated PVP. And god damn it more promotion to get MORE PLAYERS OUTSIDE OF THE LOCAL PLATFORM. Hello steam? Like wth WG what have you been doing all these years?

And no I'm not going to be that guy who will make a longwinded "bye-bye" thread in the end as if my time spent in this MMO was a grande endeavor ending with a bang. Much like everyone else I'll be just moving onto the next game or aviation game if I can find a decent one at the end of this year. Because ultimately that's how I feel about this title right now. We're working our #$@'s off with this new upgrade system with an even grindier "win-only" specialist status that is trivial in benefits & "win-only" grinding of these new material resources... What's the point of all this? Does it lead up to something later on this year maybe? A hidden unrevealed pre-planned endgame content that we aren't aware of? Because at this point one can only really be hopeful that 2.0.5 might as well lead up to something to make up for all that hard work to re-do all your planes. The big question there is "For what"? And why? Why are these developers making us regrind our planes and for what purpose?

I know it might seem like I'm repeating myself here - hence the broken record reference that keeps popping up around these forums every or so month. Might as well be the every other week that someone else references something that resembles even more of a broken record around these forums and this game... I mean the coincidences!

Maybe the reasons are much simplier than I fathom it in my own complicated and complex way.

1. Time-sink because more reasons to play

2. Cash-grab attempts to lure players to play this new update because business reasons and more profits $$$

And you know the funny thing is. Back when we had that horrid 1.5 patch update forced down upon us, you can be sure that A LOT of players complained and ended up leaving the game too because WG took too long to respond or aren't willing to accept that it was a failure. <- Doesn't this look just like the same result of 2.0.5?... I mean how obvious does it have to be for WG to do something about their product if the mass of this one particular region doesn't like this update? What about EU? Do they feel the same way? What about RU? If all regions come to the same conclusion that this update is bad for the game and something needs to be done, then shoudn't WG do something? But nah.... WOWP is too small of dat prescious Wargaming stock shares to make a dint compared to a one-hit wonder like WOT or WOWS. Because the way I see it WG is only known for 2 great titles - Ships and Tanks. Does anyone talk about WOWP anymore?...

TL'DR

What are we getting in trade for all this work in regrinding our planes? Or is it just that good ol' explanation of maxing out our tier 10s because bragging rights.

If that's all this game has to offer then I'm sorry to say I probably won't stay much longer. 3 things that will convince me to stay:

  • Balance fix this crapshow in 2.0.5 new upgrade system. A major rework is needed to make this new system more enjoyable. I'll give you a hint: Those slots in equipments and consumables. Go back to the drawing board with those. The current design is greatly flawed. Too many restrictions.
  • Disable victory requirements for material resources. Give us more options to attain them. Heck make more pve content around this (you made a new resource into the game that is a potential gold mine - introduce pve story mode, campaign, promote more pvp content if you want. Just give us more options to farm these god damn materials. Too grindy at the current state.
  • Start planning for Clan orientated PVP content now - this year - as in 2018 if you want your game to stay afloat past 2019. Guaranteed this game will die if you do nothing in this area and stay stagnant in this content development instead of focusing on pve/AI crap that nobody liked pre 2.0. The only reason why they're acceptable now is they fill the battles and make ques not as painfully long. This won't last long. People will get tired of this. If not already.

TL'DR v2

Game is getting boring. Need more reasons to continue this boring grind. Or you lose one more player... Simple maths :bajan:

Get birthdays back...that's the reason why people collect planes, and therefore grind them up...

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...

Yes.  I got the idea from somewhere that this was already promised "in the works".  That was many months ago.

I found myself asking the same question, "To what end are these changes made for?"
To me, it just seems like they're making changes just for the sake of making changes.

They need to stop reinventing the wheel.

OK, one of game's better players going way back, and one of the most diplomatic and understanding is at his wit's end. This should be a twenty seven alarm fire at WG headquarters. This man can put up with just about anything  and he's had it.

The same eternal psychological struggle, whether it is a video game or aspects of a person's "real life". The "why" questions. "Why am I doing something?" The stimulus of the macro never seems to totally satisfy. All things eventually become meaningless, it is a realization.

The road to self purpose to move beyond all the roles and expectations that define a person. The pathway towards true self reliance. Tis a rare state indeed.

People seek purpose when they should be creating it.

Yeah ArrowZ, I posted pretty much the same issues and increasing boredom with the game.

WG won't listen, however.  Not sure what they were thinking with this update, but they just really screwed up the fun factor.

Like I have said before, when you don't play your own game, you don't know what you are doing.

If they removed the negatives from 75% of the items, the new equipment system would've been absolutely fine. Though they should've given players specialist from the start of 2.0.5 for those who had planes that were already elited.

Equipment right now, for the most part, isn't worth upgrading or mounting completely. While with only basic equipment it may not seem to have too much of an impact, the negative attributes of the new equipment are definitely felt in play and especially when multiple slots are used. I like the ideas for new equipment, but all the negatives kill it. Equipment aren't upgrades anymore like they were in the prior patch, they're just trade offs. Also the new equipment acted as an indirect nerf to GAA and a direct nerf to Bombers within the game(specifically in regards to the concealing livery and its 30% reduction of long range AA) which makes them basically unplayable(which is even worse if you take into account the rear gunner range nerfs to both the range equipment and skill).

I was expecting the full german bomber line in 2.0.5, not a change to equipment that I don't believe anyone ever wanted, or for that matter, asked for. Not to mention they didn't even run a public test for a change this drastic, they probably could've avoided all this if they done one. Another small thing that bugs me about this patch is that they didn't do skill resets, they had to know a lot of builds would change and some crew skills would no longer be useful. When world of warships does anything related to skill changes(which did happen this patch in addition to the equipment), they give you a free reset to respec your captain to allow you to change your selected skills to better fit a new play style(which makes me wonder if this didn't happen because of simple ignorance or pure unfiltered greed, which we saw with the equipment and the new bundles that showed up on day one of 2.0.5).

I decided that I won't come back until they fix it or revert back to the old equipment, and they give an apology to the players for screwing up royally. But I don't imagine it will happen unless they hit a 0 player count for a week straight.

Unfortunately found this post very relatable.

I didn't have a lot of hours logged pre-2.0, and not on this account, so all the grinding has been post-2.0, but that having been said, I was also nearing "end-game" before 2.0.5 dropped, at least in terms of a complete tech tree. And now, well, motivation flagging... though, honestly, the issues I have with the whole specialist grind at this point are two-fold:

1. The introduction was really, really off-putting, mainly the sudden drop in plane performance entailed.

2. Now that I've got a bunch of planes specialized, and some gear ground up, I'm kinda starting to feel very meh about it all... the whole perpetual grind for linear, incremental improvements is a bit dull to be the core reason to play the game.

Lately just been playing to finish out a few planes, and I'm now staring the end of that in the face and wondering, "ok, and then...?" To be sure, I still like the basic game, there are planes and matches that are fun, but, not seeing much reason for more than a much more casual playing approach than in the past. A few things that might change that:

1. The perennial "need to increase the player base"... well... yeah. playing against mostly bots gets old if it's really the only reason to be playing... but... how?

2. Fix the stability issues. I know it's kind of a feature of F2P games, but the ongoing stability issues are a real turn off for a lot of folks

3. More varied content - Ships has done a much better job of keeping people engaged, perhaps cribbing a few ideas from them?:

a. Ranked "seasons" - how about a 7 v 7 or even 5 v 5 single-sortie Attrition mode event (and generally, what ever happened to Attrition mode (we need not discuss Invasion))?

b. Clan Battles.

c. Tech Tree content - line splits, new lines, new nations... come to think of it, has the tech tree actually changed at all since 2.0 dropped, going on 10 months ago?

d. Events/Campaigns

4. Re-work specialist idea. Still think the linearity of it is tedious. Why not have a new upgrade tree post-specialist that allows you to develop a series of variants? More horizontal development than "improvements".

I know nothing new in here, just hoping this works a bit like a lie; maybe if they hear it often enough...

I totally agree with arrows sentiments about hitting the start button. With this whole grind and not getting anything for your hard work by losing a match Wging should trade mark the phrase, "only fun when you win".

I hear a lot of folks voting with their feet and walking away.  I've tried that several times but keep coming back as there is nothing out there that I enjoy playing more.

I have, since the 2.0 drop, been voting with my wallet.

While I didn't spend a lot of money on the 1.x phase of WOWP, I did request Gold, Planes, etc for birthday gifts, father's day, xmas, etc which probably was $100+ plus per year.  Since 2.0, I've stopped all purchases as a lot of the planes I purchased don't fly well and are now useless to me and a painful reminder of money wasted.  I'm not convinced that 2.0 will succeed/continue so I won't spend any more for fear of a complete loss.

I do still play the game and suffer through the grind taking pleasure in SLOWLY upping my win rate and the occasional awesome game where I overcome seemingly insurmountable odds and eek out a win in the last seconds  (a lot more common in 1.x where skill could consistently help win battles).

I take solace in the fact that while I am grinding and not purchasing, I am a financial drain on the game.  If they want my $'s again, either fix these bugs, get the clans functioning again or bring back 1.9.  Better yet, all of the above.

I am totally grateful for your forgiveness and humbly accept it in the same spirit it was given.

The point is, this is the WoWP forum, not Psychology Today.  I doubt if anyone comes to this forum to be psychoanalyzed.  They come to find out what other players know about the game, if they are having the same issues and if there are workarounds.  You know, it's about the airplanes.

But maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe others enjoy the psychobabble.  As for me, I would appreciate if you would stop the hijacking of the questions.  This topic is "where does it all lead to?"
