How do collisions work? Situations I have had:

Me in a heavy fighter ram another heavy fighter, he lives I die.

Me in a heavy fighter low health ram a fighter he lives I die

Do collisions count as kills?

Any help on explaining this would be greatly appreciated.

Collisions are counted as kills. Even ground collision will credit the kill to the last non-AA player that damaged you. There's even a little yellow box for ramming attack "achievement" if you manage to kill a plane via ramming.

Collision is wonky to say the least, but it's there for preventing outright sacrifice of 1HP plane into a 3k+ HP one for guaranteed kill.

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

Collisions (aka ramming) are surprisingly complex.

They take into account weight (now hidden stat) and HP of your plane along with where you hit. There was a dev blog a while ago on this and while it might be a bit outdated you can still good a rough idea of how it works, http://blog.worldofwarplanes.com/mechanics/ramming-weapon-aces/

In general, just know that heavier aircraft will do more damage in rams, and hitting the wings will do less damage than hitting the fuselage (if you can, try and drive your wing through the opponents fuselage, you take barely any damage while obliterating your enemy.)

I do fly Chinese aircraft a fair amount so... *ahem*

I even made a custom skin for my IL-10M!

Ram kills are considered kills

Heavy fighters can survive a ram from any light fighter or multirole fighter.

BUT a light flighter can ram kill you if you have HP low enough than that light fighter.

eg. LF has 400 HP and your heavy has 50 HP, you will most probably die.

LF has 400 HP and your heavy has 700, high chance to survive.

I gotta check whether the weight of the aircraft stat is still available in game. That used to be a cool piece of information.

Bombers = Windshield

Fighters, Multi-roles, Heavies = Bugs

It is as simple as that in my world.
