Good post from the EU Forum

Please see post http://forum.worldof...164#entry561164, where I listed aspects of the patch that I liked, had no strong opinion upon and disliked.  Having played the patch for a few days, this is my first fully-formed opinion of it.  If anything below is factually wrong, please let me know.  The complexity of the patch is such that even a few days' familiarity with it is not enough to guarantee I have understood all aspects of it correctly.  If I haved missed something (for instance, I'm aware of discontent concerning conversion of certain items in the game that amounts to a serious loss of gold for some players, but I don't know the details currently), please let me know this too.

Concept

The concept of the patch, which is to increase the complexity of the equipment system, is excellent.  The ability to customise an aircraft and kit it up for different playing styles has been enhanced considerably.  This ought to provide considerable interest to existing players and it also provides something to do with tier 10 aircraft.  The decision to include penalties that accompany enhancements for equipment is controversial, because having provided choice to players, the developers have then limited each choice with a constraint that tends to encourage players down a particular path of customisation.

Implementation

The implementation of the concept is what we see in the game and some of the developers' decisions are questionable.

Major Problems

  1.  This system is too complicated for new players, who in any case won't have the materials to enhance equipment.  It will also put them at an even greater disadvantage against experienced players, who are likely to have relatively abundant equipment and materials, and who are forced to play at low tiers to gain tokens.  Giving the nuisances that are seal clubbing players more of an advantage is also not a good idea.
  2.  Limiting the award of materials solely to winning teams may be a conceptually satisfying idea (the winning team wins control of the ground and therefore their salvage teams can scour the battlefield), but in practice is not sensible.
  3.  Players should not have to choose between mounting a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher.  It is not possible to mitigate satisfactorily the consequences of not having one of these important consumables, particularly pilot injury.

Recommendations and reasoning

Major

  1.  The new system is limited to tier 5 and above aircraft.  The old system should apply for newer players.  This won't eliminate the problem of them meeting experienced players or nuisance seal clubbers, but it will reverse the even greater disadvantage at which this patch puts them.
  2.  Materials should be awarded under certain circumstances to players on the losing side, perhaps for those that finish in the top three, who earn epic medals, who score a certain amount of personal points or a combination of these and perhaps other factors.  Good play even in losing teams should be rewarded.
  3.  A "universal" slot should be provided to allow players to mount both first aid kit and fire extinguisher.  This may upset some carefully constructed equipment/consumable balancing mechanism in the developers' minds, but only being able to choose one of these is loathed by the majority of players to whom I have talked.  They care little for that "balancing mechanism".

Minor

  1.  The amount of tokens needed to complete an aircraft's specialist mission should reduce proportionally the closer it is to completion.  If it takes 110 tokens to complete a tier 10 aircraft mission, then at 50% completion it should take 55 tokens.  Tokens cannot be earned quickly enough to make it viable to complete specialist missions if full price has to be paid no matter how near to completion they are.
  2.  If you decide not to apply a calibration you have invoked on a piece of equipment you should not lose your credits and materials.  You should just be prevented from attempting to calibrate it again until you have played another game in the aircraft.
  3.  Inappropriate specialist missions should be revised where they are not suited to certain aircraft.  I have noted missions for multirole aircraft that are unsuitable for them, e.g. the F-94D Starfire.
  4.  Aircraft in the specialist configuration should not be highlighted with a special symbol in the game.  Player hunting is already a problem in the game; this will make it worse for players in specialist aircraft.
  5.  New premium ordnance should be removed from the game.  Most players do not want this kind of "pay to win" development within the game.
  6.  More information to be provided on exactly how the enhancement and negative consequences of it affect the parameters of the equipment and aircraft.  8% more accuracy on the gunsight and 3% more chance of pilot injury means what, exactly?  The current information within game is too indicative and not explanatory enough.

Bugs

  1.  Delayed server-side hit registration needs to be fixed urgently.
  2.  Clicking on the progress note in the battle results for the specialist mission does not open the specialist mission dialogue, though it does close the battle results dialogue.
  3.  Daily multiplier signifiers (note: not daily multipliers themselves) do not disappear after the first win of the day on an aircraft.
  4.  The hanger UI is noticeably slow compared to previous iterations of the game.  Optimisation is required.

Other items

  1.  Patches should not override players' button or joystick assignments.
  2.  The nerfing of the Soviet female pilot's 'Femme Fatale' skill was handled very badly.  Encouraging players to play hundreds of man-hours over a weekend to obtain her and then debilitating her not two weeks later was an aggravatingly stupid thing for WoWP to do.  As an aside, her skill is now wrongly described in the game.

Conclusion

I like the concept behind this patch.  If the few major problems are fixed, I think it will be a good development in the game.  As it is, I think it's flawed and it is producing, alongside interest in the new ways aircraft can be configured, a lot of frustration in the player population.  It could have been much worse, but it could also have been much better.  WoWP, you have work to do to make this patch welcome to many of the players of this game.

A shame, too. I like devs. I've befriended every single dev, moderator, and public relations dev I've ever encountered in the WoWS forum, and there were some seriously good apples in terms of devs even in the cesspool of hate that is the WoT forums.  I've met a few devs in real life, and wouldn't you know it? They are really nice people who are really passionate about the games they help develop. Now if only their superiors had the same passion for their games...

Remember, remember the 14th of... June, the day of patch 2.05.  Some say it's great end-game content, some say it's horrible, but history will always recall which it actually was.

This is the response I got when I copied the list by the OP into the EU Forum.  Come from EU coordinator who is WG Staff...

Sound bug will be fixed hopefully (reported to the audio department). If that helps

The black screen is an issue where people need to send in data and as much information to find it. People are having it, but many people are not having it.

The emblems is new, let me check this.

The first win bug, is known and is being worked on.

Laggy UI is with the performance enhancement and optimisation, which again is being worked on.

You don't have to re-purchase equipment. It should remain equipped on your plane and saved on stock. You might need to demount this to re-mount in specialised.

Targeting window is unlikely to return. You can suggest it to come back, but for many it was too strong.

arasgrandpa, question about your post, specifically recommendations area, item 1. "new system limited to tier 5 & above", would that be including aircraft build rollbacks on anything tier 4 & below? For full explanation, please go to post # 5 in this thread, if you haven't read it already..

While I wasn't the original poster (copied from EU forum) I do agree with recommendations. I assume/agree that tiers 1-4 should not be included in the new regiment for grinding.  Its going to get old fast and drive new players away.  While I am not too happy with the update, I think it would have less impact on my playing if it started at Tier 5.  At least I would have a choice to play lower tiers for the fun of it rather than grind all 100 aircraft to specialist mode. So return 1-4 to pre update format.

I think this is what WG is planning to do with premium aircraft sometime this week or next. In the EU forum is an announcement that there is an upcoming change to the premium aircraft as far as specialist /equipment/consumables.

From the WG EU Coordinator eekeekpoo

Hello Pilots!

Sometime next week, the premium aircraft in the game will go back to the old configuration numbers of 3 equipment slots and 3 premium slots.

Premium aircraft changes in more detail:

Tiers 2-4: 3 equipment slots and 3 consumable slots with one to unlock.

Tiers 5-7: 3 equipment slots and 4 consumable slots with one to two slots for unlocking.

Tiers 8-9: 4 equipment slots and 4 consumable slots with one equipment and one consumable slot to unlock.

Battle missions for the specialist configuration will remain as they are.

Further information when confirmed will be provided.

Otherwise stay safe, or have fun blowing things up in the skies!

Thanks Toggle for posting this. I've been pulling my hair out trying to find something on this.Apart from loosing Premium time for 4 days now, I'm having same issues.

The Black screen after 1st shot down

the spinning plane after shot down

the annoying sound lag & health meter lag,

the "WHO SHOT ME?" instant death

the game crashing during sortie, when rebooting plane stuck in Battle

those are the one's that make it almost unplayable,I hope they give us back Premium credits, cause after all we had to pay real money.

Just took me 2 days to figure out the replays, they didn't have files set to game client.so it took awhile to figure how to set it manually to "World_of_Warplanes_NA"

the only fun bugs are "the Ballerina plane spin under ground after a crash" or the choppy artifacts, raindrops, flying particles, with screen spin

The tester emblems were removed when 2.0 was released.   I have no idea how this was any benefit to the game.

I had equipment mounted on my plane, when it reached Specialist status, the equipment was gone and had to be remounted.  I don't know if it went back into my depot or if had to be repurchased.  I had a lot of other equipment in the depot and did not count what was there before reaching Specialist.

Stock and Specialist slots are separate, but you can move equipments between configs without paying tokens to demount (if upgraded). It should say "in another configuration" when you try to pick an equipment.

You sure they are gone?

Did you try switching between stock and specialist? I think planes are switched to specialist by default after paying silver to purchase the specialist config (you can see that reflected in carousel but the plane itself does not update, if applicable for e.g. vastly different armaments, for some reason; that in itself might be a bug too).

The equipment mounted on stock does NOT carryover to specialist. You have to move them manually.

Today's update from eekeeboo WG EU Coordinator

Hello everyone,

Here’s an update on a few of the bugs reported so far. The following are still being investigated:

  1. Issue with “specialist” progress. A player cannot complete several/all quests for particular plane.

  • Estimation: the problem is being investigated as top priority, fix will be applied next week together with the fix for premium planes.

  1. Calibration is not working, resources are spent, and animation becomes endless. Reproduced only once
  • Recommendations:  Contact Customer Support. Crediting logs do exist and visible and support can see the log and compensate.
  • Estimation: Fix still being investigated, support tickets and any information that can be provided will assist.

  1. No progress on the specialist battle missions in the post battle window if player changed the plane during this battle. The progress is counted and the real progress can be checked in the specialist window.
  • Recommendation: to check the progress in the specialist window, or the progress bar above the characteristics window (top-right).
  • Estimation: Fix will be released in the nearest client update

  1. Lags when changing a pilot, switching between planes for players who have 50 and more planes. This was found to be a client-server issue; dev team has found a series of leaks.
  • Recommendation: no specific decisions atm.
  • Estimation: investigation is still in progress, but at least part of it will be improved with the fix next week in the nearest client update.

  1. If players are having a lot of problems with performance, in some cases changing from borderless screen mode has resulted in a performance increase.

Also, this may help some...

I was having the issue when going into battle, after the wait to get a battle, the screen would go black. After a long wait, I would go back to angar, but plane was in battle. Exit game and reload, still black screen and back to hangar.  This was random except for two aircraft, which would never go into battle.  Put in a ticket and after several procedures and sending many log file, the last procedure seems to have cleared the issue. Here it is..

Dear arasgrandpa,

Thanks for getting back to us, and we appreciate your patience and cooperation. Rest assured that we will help you the best way we can.

We would like you to perform the following steps to ensure a complete reset of your network connection.

Close all open programs (a reboot will be necessary)

  • Press Start Button (to open start menu) [On older systems, click Run]
  • type CMD and hold the left ctrl and shift buttons
  • press enter
  • release left 2 buttons

  • you are now in an authorized shell - enter the following commands one at a time pressing enter after each one:

: ipconfig /flushdns
: arp -d
: netsh int ip reset c:\log.txt
: netsh winsock reset
: shutdown -r -t 0

We would also like you to power cycle you network equipment such as your router or modem.

  1. Turn off and unplug all of your network devices. (modem and or network switches/routers) - and if they have a battery, please take them out.
  2. Turn off your computer.
  3. Leave them all off for 30-40 seconds.
  4. Turn them all back on and give them a few minutes to initialize and pull down some new addresses.
  5. Clear your internet browser cache.

Next please clear your DNS cache.

  1. Press the START button.
  2. Select All Programs.
  3. Select Accessories
  4. Select Command Prompt. This will open a black DOS box.
  5. Now type in ipconfig/flushdns and press enter.
  6. You should see a prompt that states "Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache."
  7. Press the "X" at the top right to close this program.

Please let us know how it goes! We look forward to your response and assisting you further.

Ordnance Failing to Reload - mounting hardware and all the penalties are there, but the actual ordnance isn't.  Affects every plane that carries ordnance but doesn't have an ordnance-tied consumable, ie most multiroles and heavies.  Temporary way to deal with it is to unselect and reselect ordnance in the "upgrades" panel.

I love DCS, I specialized in the Mig-15 and 21 (paid like 50 dollars to have the manuals printed off ...lol )its just time I dont have to learn to fly others, thats why WOWP appeals to me ..I have been a supporter, but this patch ...Im beginning to re-think.

So many other good games are available now.... I wished WG had a "test" server so they could test the patch prior just dumping it on us.

Well summer is here now, and It will be difficult to put a ton of hours into this game.

W_W

There is currently a Test Server in RU and we are working on implementing a Test Server in the NA region as we speak.

1.  Black screen when entering battle from the queue.  The plane enters battle but I have no battle sounds and a black screen.  Restarting the game, leaves me back at the black screen.

2. Sound effect for my guns hitting a plane.  I hear a normal sound effect sometimes.  Other times I hear nothing even though I'm scoring hits on the target.  Then all at once I hear a Brrrrr like a GAU-8 on an A-10.  It's like all the sound effects for the past 5 seconds played at once.

3.  Bring back the Alpha and Beta tester emblems.  Taking them away was a dickish move.

4. X3 for first battle played bug.  I have the X3 for every plane in the hangar even after the first win.  If I fly another plane, I lose the x3 indication unless the game is restarted or I fly that plane again.  It is reporting the X3 available, even though it not accruing the x3.

5. It now takes forever to move a pilot from barracks to a plane or from plane to plane.  WG took something that worked pretty well and buggered it up.

6. Plane filter in hangar.  The old old version worked great.  WG prettied the filter up and in doing so rendered it all but useless.  It is supposed to make it faster to find and select a plane and instead it's faster to scroll through a couple hundred planes.  Good job!

7.  If I purchase equipment then acquire "Specialist" I have to purchase the equipment again?!? wth!

8.  Bring back the targeting window. for the cockpit.  It was an extremely useful tool that needs brought back.

9.  I can't turn down or silence the hangar sound.

10.  Disconnect from server.  No apparent reason.  Got back into battle to see my plane destroyed after the squall line.

11.  The female Pilots (RU, DE, US) special abilities don't seem to work.  At least for the RU female in the IL-40P.  Did something change?  Were we not told?

12.  Game crashes when closing chat windows.  I thought this was fixed until today. 19 Jun.

Thanks for the list. We will see what we can do.

But it is a small bug in comparison of everything else.

Theoretically, the X2 EXP issue has been resolved and is now just a Graphical issue where it only shows as not being used, even if it has already been used up.
