Its me again, And I have another batch of research findings for you guys today, though not what I initially planned - which was French and then Chinese - Instead today I am going to put my money where my mouth has been regarding Russian Heavy Fighters.

Assuming this line is to be added, it would be placed to the right of the IL line in the research screen, either that, or to the left of the La line.

Without further ado, here is the heavy fighter lineup based on my research:

I-5

I-15

v

Tupolev R-6

|

>

Tupolev ANT-21

  Tairov Ta-3
  MiG DIS

Pe-2 (VI variant)

  Pe-3 (Bis variant)
  I-320 II
  Su-15

Su-17

or

Alekseyev I-212

Another potential premium heavy fighter would be the Tupolev ANT-29, placed at tier IV.

Defining Characteristics:

  • As with most other Russian aircraft, Russian heavy fighters for the most part - with the MiG DIS and Pe-3bis being exceptions - lag behind in number of guns compared to their foreign contemporaries. The I-320 II, Su-15, and Su-17 would only have 3 guns vs 4 in each of the Me 262 versions in-game.

  • Conversely, also like other Russian aircraft, what they lack in gun number - again with the exception of the MiG DIS and Pe-3bis - they make up for with good DPS potential and good gun characteristics. They would have access to autocannons starting at T3.

  • The main pitfall of this line will be large size, the I-320 II, Su-15, and Su-17 all dwarfing their German rivals by 15-20 additional feet of length. with most other members of this line being up to 10 feet longer. Some of these may likely be the largest heavy fighters in the game.

  • To balance this, Russian Heavy fighters would have the most health of their class for each tier, just like many - if not all - the IL's do for GAAs.

  • Russian Heavy fighter turn times would be shorter than those of German and British counterparts, but would tie with American Heavy fighters, with the exception of the F7F Tigercat. The Su-17 would likely be the most agile tier 10 heavy fighter in the game as it is essentially a bigger MiG-15bis. I would say 12 seconds at the most, 14 at the absolute least. This would particularly be true with the Ta-3 and Pe-2 as well.

  • Service Ceilings of Russian Heavy fighters would be slightly lower than their British and German contemporaries

  • Russian Heavy fighters would vary slightly in airspeed ratings, the Su-17's for example would fall either just short of the HG III's, or between the HG III and the XF-90 (More likely the former).

  • Ending with the Pe-3bis, Many of these heavy fighters will have a rear-turret (or even two, the Pe-2 could potentially have anywhere from 2 to 5).

Thoughts on this? Anything I may have left out? I understand the Pe-2 might be under consideration as a bomber, but it was considered a light bomber as well as an inteceptor, not a medium bomber. The Tu-2 would better fall under the category of a Medium Bomber in my honest opinion. Perhaps the Tu-2 could be added as a branch off from the DIS as a Bomber at Tier 6?

Fabulous work!  Sounds good, with more bombers online/on the way, heavy fighters will come into their own..

Excellent!

Now, when do we get to see the Tu-4 line?

La-200 would fit the role of a t10 heavy

This I did consider, but it is the longest of the three that fit the category (A whopping 53 feet long), and was statistically slower than the 1949 Su-17. Practically the same armament as well.

It is worthy to mention however. :B

Pe-2VI is a hi-altitude fighter variant. it can be implemented. just mentioning Pe-2 is kinda confusing. because most people recognize Pe-2 as light bomber / dive bomber.

Tank Commander of Southeast Asia.

Fly to North America to fly.

I'll tweak the OP a bit to clear this up.

EDIT: Done, this should be more clear now.

I do as well honestly, this is probably the strongest line I have built based on research, and the most clear-cut. We'll have to see if the Devs produce any reaction.
