As a Messerschmitt fan, I found this video fascinating:

Saw something about this the other day...

Boils down to when the company was taken over... some models retained their Bf designation, because they were already active, but new models aquired the Me designation.

The guy in the video did better research. He has a document from Messerschmidt AG on a 1943 flight test which is certainly after the 1938 takeover, which calls it the Bf 109, and Me 109, and 109 all in the same document. And he has the flight manuals for the F and G models, which say Bf 109 on the title.

It seems the Germans didn't care and used Bf 109, Me 109, and simply 109 interchangeably.

That Bf109 has those wing cannons! Wish it could come back to 2.0. Would make playing the 109s more fun again imo.

Here is an excellent book on the the topic just finishing it and it goes in prewar development of both planes and the politics behind them - very interesting read I recommend it.

The best 109 the pilots liked was the Emil and it goes into more details but the difference of the ME vs BF as stated above was the RLM/Milch  taking over the aircraft manufacturers plus Milch who hated Willie Messerschmidt doing everything to try and bankrupt him during that time frame to take over his plants great history in the book. Also,  it sorta gives you some incite on the Spitfire 9 and 14 both I love to fly in this game.

Thanks for that, found a used copy on Amazon for a few bucks.

Wish I'd seen the other thread, would have added this video to that one instead.  Will have to visit the Newbie forum more often ...
