I found no love for the I-250 back in the days. Really loved the predecessor I-220 and the follow up Mig-9. But the I-250 was one of my worst grinds. Really hated to fly it and was happy to sell it as soon as i got to the Mig-9

Ah! It's a dead thread!

I'm still perplexed by people like Retousair apparently seriously recommending I-250, when this thread came out I wasn't there yet, now I've finished the grind, didn't find it horrible but also not particularly great, possibly hurt fairly bad by the Equipment changes?

I'm enjoying the MiG-9 much more.

That was back then, and yeah equipment changes have slapped it down a fair amount. I recently played it again and now it's just "meh." I'd say for non-prem's the Ta-152, Ki-94-II, and Spit 14 are pretty closely tied for "best tier 8 fighter." If I had to choose one though, Ta-152, speed, altitude, decent at dogfighting, and can delete people, even post-nerf it's still pretty good.

I do fly Chinese aircraft a fair amount so... *ahem*

CHINA NUMBAH WAN

I even made a custom skin for my IL-10M!

You guys have intrigued me. At the moment, I have no Tier VIII and only one Tier VII, but it happens the be the Ki-84, a plane I greatly enjoy and probably have had the most success. After reading this thread, I think I'll uncheck the "Accelerate crew training" box and eventually grind out the Ki-94-II in case I need a Tier VIII for something.

Some of you wrote that the Ki-94-II "hits hard" but it has the same caliber and number of guns as the Tier VII Ki-84. Are they an upgrade?

Favorite planes:

Guns are the same (if you have them researched, you can use them right away), but otherwise the Ki-94-II has better stats all around aside of roll. It does also face tougher opposition though, so keep that in mind. I think the Ki-94-II also has the best altitude performance of its line at 2200 meters optimal altitude, with the tier 9 going back down to 1900 meters and the tier 10 capping at 2000 meters :amazed:

This is my IL-2 (t). There are many like it, but this one is mine. :child:

Yak-15 or Spit XIV would be my personal vote.

I do lean more toward the Yak-15 but that's a personal preference for being ungodly in turning and burning.

Yes lol, always tricky question to necro or duplicate.

I thought as much, several of my old favourites frustratingly don't really perform like they used to.

I miss the old equipment system, I mean I basically had same speed + agility setup for all my fighters but I liked the combo of bonuses I got then vs now I tend to leave some slots unpopulated & haven't spent much on Upgrades/Calibration because I don't want the downside more than I want the upside.

I really should get round to starting out on Japanese tree & the German 190 line :hiding:

Working on 7 lines already & not making rapid progress though due to fairly intermittent playing so it'll probably be a while.

I do lean more toward the Yak-15

If it had a more powerful engine or 3rd gun maybe but its just too slow, lacking kill power & altitude for me.

I much preferred the La-9 with its 4*23mm & better speed with still above average agility & actually is the only T8 I've kept for fun so far other than SpitXIV (I actually did sell, then bought back but still take it out much less than La-9)

I just earned the Ki-94-II, my first Tier VIII plane. I was happy with Frank Hayate, but I wanted a Tier VIII to do missions above Tier VII. I had to sell three planes to afford the credits, which is odd. I'm not usually low on credits.

They nerfed credit earnings a while back. Something like a 30 - 50% reduction so its now harder to afford a lot of high tier stuff. I had to sell off half my hangar to afford the Hunter (though to be fair I spent a lot recently on Specializing a couple of planes)

Welcome to the big leagues.

That might be my problem, too. I just recently Specialized the A6M2, A6M5, Ki-84, and Ki-102. At one point, I think I had 4 million credits. Looks like I'll grind up my bank account again with the A6M3 Exp and work on the Ki-94-II's pilot.

The "big leagues": a fragile piston-powered light fighter surrounded by screaming jets. But at least I can join Tier VIII battles now.

PS: I didn't realize how large the Ki-94-II plane was! It dwarfs even the Ki-84 and is about the same size as the Ki-102!

You're a very dangerous piston-powered light fighter and your biggest enemy will probably be another piston-powered light fighter.

The plane didn't perform too badly with the stock engine in the single battle I have fought. I have 189,000 free experience, but I think I'll grind it.

Spit at t8 is a beast, but ya hard to progress any more, I will be specialized before I can move up to the attacker.

Whenever I get low on credits, I fly my XF-85 for awhile.

Win or lose it's +100,000 credits and always fun to fly.

Wait till you unlock the top engine and get the cool 6 bladed prop!

The KI-94-II is one of the best all around planes in the game.... IMO..

I stopped grinding for the TA-152 after I had elited the KI-94.

( I may go back to it someday, as I have already unlocked the P.210 and the P.212.03, but I hate the FW-190D and have had enough of it for awhile..lol)

Just seems like the small altitude ceiling advantage on the TA-152 is not worth grinding and duplicating another Tier 8 prop fighter.

The KI can get up to any bomber, but a bit fragile to take them on all alone like my ME109Z.

The Ta152 has lost some of its lustre with the recent nerfs. Its still very powerful but no longer the deathball buster it once was. I found that the combination of nerfed accuracy and nerfed heat cycles mean that it cannot effortlessly slaughter swarms of Heavies, Bombers and Attackers although it still pops light fighters and Multiroles with ease.

Could just be I had a bad case of bottus crappus last night, to be fair

Previously though .. You missed out on the most gloriously overpowered light fighter at tier 8. Just look up my old Ta152 videos. The stats on the Ta don't stack up well but it's those ridiculous MK103s that are the reason people love the Ta.

I have always loved the TA-152.

Built every model available in the 70's.

It is a "gun game" and the guns are supposed to be awesome.

I will go back and grind my FW-190D some more real soon.

Just wish it handled a bit better and had another 500M of ceiling.

Right now I am enjoying my new Yak 15.

Kinda like my Goblin but a tech tree T8.

Thanks, it's something to look forward to. Right now, I'm alternating between upgrading the Ki-94-II and using the A6M3 Exp to rebuild my depleted credit bank account and simultaneously develop my Ki-94-II pilot, who was recruited from my underused Ki-45.

For TnB fighters I vote for Spitfire XIV. The other 2 TnB fighters Ki-94-II and Yak-15 have their own problems, I've never liked them. Ki-94 has great altitude performance but that's it. The guns are the same as Ki-84, at tier 7 they are great but at tier 8, meh.. Short range, overheat fast, different caliber, everything bad about the guns become very noticeable when facing higher speed planes at tier 8. Yak-15, on the other hand, has an extremely low altitude performance of 1200 km which makes it one of the worst tier 8 planes on my list. The guns are not good either, they are easy to use but dps is abysmal. I would recommend Yak-15 for casual play but if I really want to win the game, to do the quests for example, I'll never pick Yak-15.

For BnZ fighters I vote for Me 209 A. Another two good planes are TA 152 and P-51H. TA 152 after the nerf is still great, but it sometimes builds up annoyance. When you are unlucky it can take forever to kill a target 300 meters ahead. Other times when you are extremely lucky it takes two shots to kill a heavy fighter 1000 meters away. P-51 is great in most aspects, the only problem is the machine guns. It is almost impossible to kill a target within one pass, which greatly limits its potential to carry the game. Personally, I rarely got games with above 15k personal points with my P-51H. The premium version P80A is a much better P-51H, though still equipped with machine guns, its a little bit higher dps makes it possible to kill the enemy within one pass.

As of late  i find that the Arrow and the Chain Lightning  are really popular with myself now.
Last week the Arrow was really useful for scoring 4 ground kills every 2~ish minutes between shooting down stuff...
This time around the Chain Lightning is doing stupidly large amounts of aerial damage.

Fair warning. My success rate at speculative guesswork is much like my WinRate. Hit or Miss.
Usually I start on the right track and then a make a weird left turn and get lost in the weeds ...
And yet it doesn't stop me from speculation.

Specialist Planes I have from : USA, UK, Germany, USSR, Europe
Light Fighters:  XP-31, Model 81A-1, P-40, P-51A, P-39N-1, XF15C, DH.100 F1, Fw 56, He 112, Bf 109 B / E / E-3, Me209v4, Me209 A, I-17
Multi-Roles: F11C-2, F4F, P-47B, Fw 190 A-1 / A-5 / D, I- 5 / 15 / 16(e)(l)

Heavy Fighters: P-38 F/J,  XP-58, Tu-1, Bf 110 C-6, SE 100, Me 410, Do 335 A-1, Me 262

Attack Aircraft: Hs 123, Ha 137, Hs 129 A, Ju 87 G, Me 265, Me 1099 B-2
Bombers: Do 17 Z, He 111 H2, Pe-2, Do 217 M
 Japan: not even once.

The best plane doesn't matter.

All that matters is that YOU are on the PREDETERMINED WINNING TEAM.

Every game is predetermined. Just track it and you will see that very evident.

Took me too long to figure it out, now I am done with this game.

Tired of being perma-pissed from a stupid game.
