Anyone else fly with Rate of Roll and Level-off rate sliders set to zero?  I just discovered this and I  find it gives me a very fine tuned flying experience without all the arcadey auto leveling and forced camera changes.  Of course you have to keep an eye on your banks and directions lest you slam into the ground or get disoriented.  I'm finding the ability to turn fast without fighting the computer to be very beneficial. Also it's easier to fly in between wing mounted weapons while head on, they just fly left and right of you. Same with sneaking through trees and under/around buildings.

Quite a few did I think back in 1.x with the Mouse+KB combination including myself. At that point if i'm putting more control on the roll axis with key commands I might as well start learning Joystick later on. And I did. It's a consequence to this particular change and you may follow the same route. As it is essentially building yourself up to joystick controls.

I gave it a try and I must say that it is pretty good. I need to spend more time with it before making a final judgement but it feels much more responsive.

I also suggest mapping the "Level off aircraft" to a key, it is nice when you need to cruise to another sector and don't want to fiddle with the controls to level off.

I have the level off rate set to a very low valve (like 5%) so it won't take over in turns but will even out during level flight.

DICTA BOELCKE for WoWP
    1. Try to secure the upper hand before attacking.
    2. Always continue with an attack you have begun
    3. Open fire only at close range, and then only when the opponent is squarely in your sights
    4. You should always try to keep your eye on your opponent, and never let yourself be deceived by ruses
    5. In any type of attack, it is essential to assail your opponent from behind
    6. If your opponent dives on you, do not try run away from his attack, but fly to meet it
    7. When over the enemy's lines, always remember your own line of retreat
    8. It is better to attack in groups of four or six. Avoid two aircraft attacking the same opponent

I have 0% for level off, and just use my own roll keys.

For HF and GA I have roll rate at 100%, when I play LF I lower it to 50% or so.

I actually use the default settings on all my planes, I got used to them. That said, I've had my fighters sometimes start rolling out of control while flying straight, let alone during active combat . Now that I think about it, it'd be awesome to be able to set those settings for each individual plane type separately :bajan:

This is my IL-2 (t). There are many like it, but this one is mine. :child:

Sometimes I would play a list of HF,  then change the settings, and play a list of GA, then change the settings and play a list of LF/MR... so I am only adjusting settings 2 or 3 times.  I also have some mid-range setting that I use for everything when I am jumping around from plane to plane.

Sometimes I forget and have to use the 30 second count in to update settings.  Sometimes I use 100% level off, when flying GA.

I've tried my joysticks with this game a half a dozen times and I found it not to be accurate enough compared to my wrist when using cannons and such. I have to hold my whole arm up. After 4 hours, that sucks. So I use the mouse with these settings and it feels like I'm shooting with a laser pointer.

Yea I had to go through the same thing. Got used to it after a while. The aiming issue fixes itself with time and practice. It becomes second nature and intuitive with the complete control of all the 3 axis. But no doubt takes a long time to get used to. I'm still learning myself.

I always set it to zero, once they put it back in 2.0. In level flight planes go faster if your rotated 90 degrees. Don’t get why but it was true in 1.9 as well. You’ll always see me flying on edge when trying to cover distance.

that cannot be true...  do you actually see a difference while flying knife edge?

doesn't your rudder input to maintain attitude create turbulence?   or did the coders just ignore that?

just LFs?  or have any other classes seen this effect?

I knew it...that auto-levelling let me lax to the point of in-flight foruming...:hiding:

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

Try it for yourself. Back in 1.x I noticed players constantly rolling their planes while climbing or flying towards the enemy. Couldn’t figure out why until I tried it and saw my plane’s speed increase. That’s when I found that it wasn’t the rolling but the 90 degree angle that did it. Doesn’t seem to matter what class of plane either. As for the coders ignoring it, these are the same ones who removed the effects of external armament on maneuverability. I’m expecting them to remove the effects of gravity to attract the space sim crowd.

This is a "trick" debunked awhile ago.

When you're flying on edge our rolling, your actually losing altitude as you fly. This loss of altitude translates into speed.

I haven't thought of doing this, was doing well with the default settings but I might give it a try now! Thanks for the suggestion!

I used a joystick for a little while but I feel like I have better gun control and view range through the KB&M.

Flying around in the open sky I like it but around obstacles or really low to the ground I tend to crash a lot so I just leave it.

This can't still be the case, can it? I know carrying bombs and rockets certainly seem to have a serious negative effect on maneuver in my F4F Wildcat!

It doesn't affect maneuverability anymore, only speed and climbrate.
