Curtiss XF15C Operation Westwall Mission Guide

I want to preface this “guide” with the idea I do have access to a wide variety of planes, higher and lower tiers. I also have the luxury of a variety of pilot skills, so my perception has been skewed. That being said, planes that I personally feel will make your life easy in this event for lots of the missions: Meteor/Tornado, Pancake, Starfire, IL40/P, 262, BVP tier 8-10.

Other planes that provide options: British heavies like the beaufighter, thunderbolt line with lots of rockets, La 9, Tier 6 or 8 premium bomber or the German heavy bombers.

If someone would like more in-depth help and advice as well as alternative plane choices, I will be more than happy to help out where/when I can. I prefaced this guide with the above planes because of the length of time people will have to grind up respective tech tree lines and working towards certain pilot skills.

Attrition game mode will be updated and modified once the event has started and I’ve done the missions at the weekend. If requested I can also get screenshots/replays of the games I did the missions on during streaming.

Due to popular request I have gone back and counted all my games and checked numbers, took away test games for other stuff and request. Roughly 100 games was required to solo all the missions, I would say at least 30-40 of those were attempting the 10 defence aircraft mission and being on defence.

EDIT Attrition mode added to previous missions and for stage 3.

Very nice guide, (Just like your 335 one) I especially like the preface part... requiring a fairly established hangar, and the bits in the spoilers where you mention that coordinated teamwork was instrumental to success.

Some people seem to think it is reasonable to expect "Everyone" to have things like RB-17's at their disposal, and skilled flight-mates clamoring to join them.

You only need 1/3 their skills, 1/3 the time they put in, and 1/3 the hangar...so, 13k battles, 4-6 hours a day, and about 80 planes.

Curious if you noticed any anomalies in the way other people were playing, that might have been caused by objective hunting... like hiding in corners to avoid getting killed.

I appreciate the incite on how to approach each mission but I have to agree with the above quote hence I would think that is why WG offered for sale the Marathon Certificates for people to purchase. I know I don't have all weekend to play and I am thinking many are in this situation to so spend the cash if you want to get pixel planes to complete the missions. I kinda think its a cash grab as in WOT so I will still play but not fork out cash for 2 planes but instead buy scotch.

I didn't notice any anomalies but people like me don't bother about winning etc, I'm single minded on an objective. I will not hide in a corner, but mostly fight until there's nothing else to kill. I have played for so long that I know that no everyone has the available planes I do.

I disagree with cash grab, I feel it's more of an event targeted more towards a high skill base. I don't mind this considering the ease of the last marathon missions, and the idea to promote learning and skill development etc. I'm aware not everyone agrees, but that's my opinion.

Very nice guide, I might actually take some of these tips to actually not be lazy and do the missions!

I've also been piecing together what could work and the planes you suggest are most definitely some of the best for the job, good on ya for mentioning that.

I do fly Chinese aircraft a fair amount so... *ahem*

I mean I view the idea that if the challenges are also as difficult as they are, then you get a better sense of achievement and pride from completing them. When you finally get those 15 kills done, it's a sense of actual accomplishment rather than ticking a box.

Thank you for doing this iikii. I was away last week and perhaps the Mission details were explained then because today when I looked to see what was going on, the missions had absolutely NO detailed explaination as to what the goal or objectives are. Kinda frustrating but then getting use to that, unfortunately.

Just played two games and somehow I completed mission 1 without even knowing.

About the Mopping Up part (and its Do335 counterpart):

You can mow down some poor bomber flights in Attrition to get to the quota.

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

Spoiler

I'm sorry, but the lack of "Unless you have a Tier 8+ GA or get absurdly lucky, this is a hint you should do the other mission instead unless you have ZERO US Premium Light Fighters" prevents me from upvoting you. /poker face

This event is nothing like the Aigle where if you have a good stable of mid-tier (6-8) ships you can trivially solo everything and earn the ship. This event requires a very specific set of high tiers (read: GAs) to get past the ludicrous hurdles, despite everything else being available to mid-tier fliers.

Having high tier aircraft makes it easier because of low population, however it is still achievable with at lower tiers.  If you are having trouble, I would suggest flighting up and having someone keep your tail clear.  Note you don't have to win, just get the targets and survive.  So focus on the sections that are the easiest and quickest to destroy.  Don't stick around and cap the whole sector, move to the next one and get the quick targets there as well.

It totally relies upon not getting competent human enemies that will hunt you down. The AD planes suddenly becoming more competent doesn't help matters, either. Most things about these missions is, it relies on having less humans to get in your way...and high tiers are ideal for that.

...and it is unfair to compare to Aigle. This event (and its predecessors)'s is more like WoWS campaigns and the difficulty is right up there with Yamamoto if not even more than that. Without the option to redo missions but you can go all the way down to tier 4 to bag some things that would be too difficult at high tiers.

If you need ground pounders to pound ground...don't you need carriers to get bomb hits and a plausible chance in getting Clear Sky, what of events calling for specific ship types and nations?
