Dornier Do 335 A-1 Pfeil  Operation Westwall Mission Guide

I want to preface this “guide” with the idea I do have access to a wide variety of planes, higher and lower tiers. I also have the luxury of a variety of pilot skills, so my perception has been skewed. That being said, planes that I personally feel will make your life easy in this event for lots of the missions: Meteor/Tornado, Pancake, Starfire, IL40/P, 262, BVP tier 8-10.

Other planes that provide options: British heavies like the beaufighter, thunderbolt line with lots of rockets, La 9, Tier 6 or 8 premium bomber or the German heavy bombers.

If someone would like more in-depth help and advice as well as alternative plane choices, I will be more than happy to help out where/when I can. I prefaced this guide with the above planes because of the length of time people will have to grind up respective tech tree lines and working towards certain pilot skills.

Attrition game mode will be updated and modified once the event has started and I’ve done the missions at the weekend. If requested I can also get screenshots/replays of the games I did the missions on during streaming.

Due to popular request I have gone back and counted all my games and checked numbers, took away test games for other stuff and request. Roughly 100 games was required to solo all the missions, I would say at least 30-40 of those were attempting the 10 defence aircraft mission and being on defence.

EDIT Attrition mode added to previous missions and for stage 3.

Would you mind adding the number of certificates required to bypass each mission...for possible planning purposes

Thanks for the write up.  Not sure if you remember how many battles it took in order to achieve all missions with distinction, if you do can you list them, even if it is just an estimated range.  Also, how much play time did it take you to complete both sets of missions?  There is a lot of "stuff" on the forums right now about how impossible they are, or how it can only be done by people that play 24/7, was this the case for you?

Very nice guide, I especially like the preface part... requiring a fairly established hangar, and the bits in the spoilers where you mention that coordinated teamwork was instrumental to success.

Some people seem to think it is reasonable to expect "Everyone" to have things like RB-17's at their disposal, and skilled flight-mates clamoring to join them.

You only need 1/3 their skills, 1/3 the time they put in, and 1/3 the hangar...so, 13k battles, 4-6 hours a day, and about 80 planes.

Curious if you noticed any anomalies in the way other people were playing, that might have been caused by objective hunting... like hiding in corners to avoid getting killed.

I don't know how many games exactly, I can go back and count them as the hall of fame no longer does a time period. But I can tell you that I did all of them within 15 hours. That included testing and trying out game economy and helping someone do their missions.

How can you choose whether you'll be in Invasion or Defense mode for a particular task? I wasted several battles last time because I was placed on the wrong side.

Play GAA or bomber or flight with one to force the MM to put you on attack side. With so few players around (as always) someone playing GAA/bomber will force the fighters into the defense side because the attacking side already has humans. Even as fighters there's still a chance you would end up on attacking side, but with the aforementioned circumstance playing fighters would more or less put you into the defending side.

If the map has an airbase you can change planes once you are in. This means that you can use your GAA/bomber to force your placement into attacking side and change to a fighter when your team captures the airbase.

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...

Thanks.  My Twitch highlights show roughly the same amount of time.  So 15 hours over 3 days.

Sector capture missions and  generic capture point missions are almost easy to do in bombers.  That would be 2, 4, 7, 10, and 13.  Go high and make good, fast sector captures and it’s easy.

I really dont don’t see how anyone is getting 15 kills in a single battle as short as these battles have been....much less 15 kills, in one victorious battle and no deaths...

Mission 12 I had to resort to flying the A26B so there would be a guaranteed bomber on the other side.  And bomber flights don’t count, it has to be enemy team bots or enemy players to get credit for the bomber kills.

Mission 13 can be done in one victorious mission using at least a T7 or higher GA.

The most important thing by far is that the Do 335 is at least on paper reasonably possible to get.

I'm not going to do the event as I have Premium fighters from both nations, but that's almost purely because I find the Curtiss mission 4 "bonus objective" to be.... ahahahahahahahaha... You need a Tier 8+ GA at the least so you can splash a whole target with one bomb.

(EDIT: I'm talking about the "kill 15 ground targets, and this means full targets not the individual bunkers and AA guns, in one match and not die" insanity)

You don't need to capture the whole sector yourself.  All you need to do is participate in it capture by destroying at least 1 section of that sector.  If you are paying attention to the battle above, you can tell whether or not your team will cap that sector, many times the first is captured quickly, so you can judge if you can go in quickly, destroy on section, and go off to the next sector while your team finishes capturing, you will get the credit for the sector capture as well.

I would advise the tier 7 Me 265, or IL 10 as they are both fast and can get from sector to sector quickly.

I've completed Rear Attack's distinction with...of all things, I-207 fighter. Once you have somehow participated in three sector captures without dying you can just be a d*k, disengage, and go hide in a corner waiting for the match to end one way or the other. The requirement is only for you to survive all the way through, not winning or anything. Preferable to do in Attrition because you can participate in capture with anything.

You are talking about the "Kill 15 ground targets in one battle and not die once" mission, right?

That's goddamned impossible unless you're telling me I can just shoot all the AA guns and then when the team caps the sector all those count as fully destroyed GTs by me.

As far as I can tell that's not how it works, I have to kill the bunkers next to the AA guns too for it to count... and with GA agility that's really hard unless one bomb can splash them all or I have enough rockets.

Maybe a multirole fighter with bombs and rockets would have an easier time in pirating such GT kills (kill the last building in a GT)?

I'm talking about Mission 4 in this thread, Capture 3 sectors and survive.  You don't have to sit around till the entire sector is captured.  You only have to contribute to it.  I gave an example of Ground Attack, the same applies for Bombers, but for a HF, MR, LF, if you destroy 1 plane and participate in the sectors capture.  Not, you have to destroy a plane, or destroy at least 1 ground target in the sector.  For example, a section of ground targets consists of (1AA, 1 tent, 2 bunkers) or (1AA, 3 tents).  As long as your team ends up capturing the sector after you leave, you still get credit.

I was saying that the Dornier missions are at least reasonably possible.

UNLIKE the Curtiss.

I was saying that the Dornier missions are at least reasonably possible.

UNLIKE the Curtiss.

Read carefully.

Right I see that now.  I actually responded in the proper thread for the US plane here: http://forum.worldof...051#entry726051

That mission 4 isn't that hard either.  You have to know which targets you can destroy quickly with minimal ordnance.  Hit and run, dont doddle capping, it isnt necessary for the mission.
