For custom skins, I use various models to start with these include:

  • The skins in WoWP that are not normally shown. Premium, Chrome, or others and replace the normal skins (hangar, base, winter, marine, and woodland)
  • Add decals and text, including names and pinups
  • Take skins from the older versions and rework them into HD for latest version
  • Use the base skins and create my own colors, camo, and decals
  • Some are historical skins based on artwork of the various planes

To save time and effort, I am posting the imgur album for screen shots of some of the skins.  All downloads are on Yandex Disk in the planesfolder.

So, look through the imgur gallery, if you find one you like, then go to the link above to download.

To install: Copy/move the vehicles directory in the zip file to the res_mods/version>/ folder

In the imgur gallery most shots are of the "hangar" skin, but the file may contain multiple skins for all the maps.

For those that are doing custom skins or thinking about it, I want to share some tools and images.

Tools:

In this directory there are some tools I use when modding.

  • XML readers that read the encrypted XML files as well as the visual and model files
  • Paint.net plugins that are useful
  • Paint.net brushes and camo that are useful
  • A couple of paint.net files of modded skins to provide an example
  • A zip of paint.net camo layers for use in applying camo to planes or tanks

Here on Pininterest is some of the non-traditional images I have modified to work as nose art or emblems on your aircraft.  In my other Pinterest albums, you can see other stuff I may work with in the future.  By non-traditional, they aren't just the pin-ups, etc.

Nice skin work grandpa, was wondering how you zoom in on your plane while flying in free camera. Do you use a joystick because mouse and keyboard you just can't zoom in on the plane while flying to see the beautiful paint jobs and nose art.

Go here and get the mod that PK directed me too ... use google to translte the instructions from the web site.. although I am not sure anything but putting the pyc file into scripts is really necessary
