So I ran some tests with Mining plants and the J7W1 today.

 

The purpose was to find out if the J7 could cap a mining plant and/or what help was required.

 

End state - it can solo cap but it takes AGES. It simply doesn't function well enough at low speeds to be able to effectively use it's 4x30mms.

 

However, as an escort for 1 GA or more, it shines! You can easily defend your GA and help get those lone buildings to quickly wrap up a cap.

 

Thought you guys should know - J7W1 for mining plants, approved (but never solo).

Seriously looking forward to trying this in a flight...

I captured a mining plant in the Ki-94-2...that said, enemy had 2 bot GA...

 

The 4x30mm is meant to melt away planes in a short order...try it. Also, 2x250kg is more or less the standard load of high tier multirole fighters. By that logic, the F2G and XP-72 can do the same if not better with larger ordnance payload.

 

You seem to be taking the Multirole label literally...I'm beginning to wonder if you would do the same trial on the Blohm und Voss 210...



WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...

The J7W1 is one BAD beast when it comes to shredding every aircraft in sight. It got quite a boost with the meta change.

Interesting. I've been wondering how well the J7-series could deal with ground targets. I've tried using the Hurricane IID as a ground-attacker and had similarly disappointing results - the 40mm cannons are just oddly ineffective against buildings. There must be some sort of modifier at work behind the scenes, because an NC 1070 (2 x 30mm, 680dps) is quite effective at razing targets with her guns. J7W1 supposedly has much better firepower (4 x 30mm, 880dps) yet still struggles in the ground attack role. I suspect that the proper GA planes have an inherent bonus to their damage and/or armour-piercing capability, while non-GA planes must use that special Gold AP ammo to become useful. Unfortunately, I've never felt rich enough to run the tests to find out.

I've played the 190 Dora and she works just fine in ground attack when loaded with Universal - mostly because of the fires set. I feel that its effectiveness isn't any different from the Me265 which carries the same mixed weaponry (30, 20, 13) against ground targets and the additional effectiveness of the 265 is down to its much larger health pool and lower stalling speed that allows it to keep guns on target longer.

Nah normally I play it properly, have unlocked the W2...

Just was curious about solo potential.

I'll often go to Mining Plant solo if I know 2 enemy GAs are there cause I can usually flip it quickly myself if that's the case.

As I said, this was a test.

Yeah GA guns are designed for heavily armoured targets, I was aware of the difference, wanted to test it properly.

Just figured it would be a good FYI for the community!

I think you are not supposed to destroy ground targets with your front guns in a multirole.

You will be wasting a lot of time trying to cap mining plant with multiroles with fewer arnaments like J7.

 

Destroy ground targets with bombs / rockets.

Defend your GAs.

Kill bot defenders.

Kill enemy GAs.

 

Multiroles are mainly base defenders

I'm still curious, though, as to what effect that special Gold Armour-Piercing ammo has for MultiRoles. I've heard of gun-oriented GAs using it (and claiming it to be worthwhile), but not MRs. Could the 1200dps J7W3 be a potent ground-razer with that ammo?

I disagree.

Depends on the MR, but if you have any bombs, why would you simply defend caps when that could be what's needed to flip a military base?

 

And if you read my post, this was a test, I know how to play MR - seriously!

I had a game in my Yak 9 where the GA I was defending eent down, and I did quite a bit of damage while he made it back. Shooting universal.

 

Can't earn a living like that but gets the job done in a pinch

Damage per shot is not comparable to the other 1200DPS gun in the game. It actually overheats pretty quickly plus the higher stall speed of the 'W3 (and 'W2, you get those as top gun there), you don't want to attack ground too often with those.

 

It does tear planes a new one though, in a fighter airframe that kind of guns are actually pretty good.

As i mentioned, MRs are defenders, they are defenders of friendly GAs and base. It is obvious, when defending your GA you have to go down, since you have bombs and/or rockets, you can assist them. Note that they also have an equipment that reduces efficiency of rear gunners and AAs.

 

All I am saying is, you shouldn't waste too much of your time trying to capture base like mining plants, because once your bombs are depleted, it takes average 2 minutes to regenerate and since there aren't any bot defenders around, the only way to capture mining plant is destroying structures and destroying enemy aircrafts who are trying to capture that plant.

 

FYI, i am not pointing fingers that you can't play MRs. Its a matter of experience and since there are newcomers in this game, they might think MRs are GA+LF combi, therefore they might spent most of the time destryoing ground targets without actual knowledge of structure type et cetera.

Yak 9 has long firing range, make use of that. learn what is the effective range of rear gunners of GAs you are attacking.

 

And avoid attacking from behind. Always choose the sides of GAs. And attack when he is unaware of your presence. Avoid attacking alone unless it is a necessity.

Agreed, 100% and your point is made.

I just wanted it clearly known, I wasn't playing the J7 like that because that's how it goes, simply as a test.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear in OP or subsequent ones.
