Vertical Expansion Needed

hey all,

 

   With the addition of bombers, and me having acquired a J8M and JU 88A, I feel it appropriate to expand the vertical compass of the game.

 

   I don't have much time now, but later I'll come back and edit this with crude paint photo to show what I mean.  I think ya'll know though.

 

   Too much happens at too low an altitude.

This will most likely not going to happen, during the stream, it was stated that Altitude limit will stay where it is because it brings the combat closer to each other.  They do not want to go back to the High Altitude meta

I was waiting to see this as newer or returning players start reaching the jet tiers...

 

That nice T10 fighter which should be able to scream up to the stratosphere is not going to reach it in this game.  It will be interesting to see how T10 battles progress if more than 1 or 2 hoomans are found in a game.  At present, it still seems like 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 at the upper tiers.

I wasn't around for the 'high altitude meta' but I can tell you that I don't like the fact 1/3 of my aircraft have their strength (altitude performance 3k+) nullified.

 

They should re-work those aircraft then and give them some type of strength.  Being able to go to 4000-5000km offers me nothing.

Why wait for what? Real players? I think you missed my point, the current "meta" will change once you see real players being the majority in battles. Real players may choose to support bombers at higher altitudes. Real players may choose to play Heavy fighters more to counter bombers ect. With real players I could see a possible reason to exist at higher altitude. Just gotta give it time.

 

Now I'll sit here and wait for the expected anti WG negative attitude response.

If your object is to win maps, your choice of aircraft shrinks.  GAAs are too slow to get anywhere of substance to get stuff done.  I have had more success with GAAs as very heavy fighters than in the ground attack role.  If your goal is to not win maps, but to have fun, then all options are open.  I play heavy fighters a lot.  Not to win, but to shoot down bombers and GAA.  Without LF/MR support, HFs will never rule the map.  BnZ is great, but is diluted now that individual map locations have dedicated defenses.  My Bf-110E is a great plane to kick butt on bombers and GAA, but horrible in mixing it up with the air defenses of airfields and command centers.  Heck, my Bf-110E can destroy an entire flight of bombers, but so what?  I can shoot down 15 bombers in a match, but still lose.  If there were more human players, that calculus could change some - I might actually use my HF to protect a bomber stream.  Or use a high-altitude fighter to discourage anti-bomber human players.  But currently, my best choice is to pick a light fighter and play down on the deck, if I want to actually win the map.

This game is like any other thing...2.0 has been here long enough to see it's not going to gain any meaningful population. Like pre 2.0 everyone is just wishing at this point. Each passing week more and more games come out to divert players attention away. Its peaked already. Sure some event or something might bring in some extras for a while but they wont stay. If this game was a plane it would be a zero...eventually realizing the war is over and dive into a carrier.

Give it time. A lot still needs to be done. They are not even marketing the game yet.

Same could be said about version 1.x.  If the past repeats itself, what you suggest will not happen.

Any map with a missile base in the middle of the map the combat is drawn up to the 1800-3000 altitude band due to the need to hunt the only air defense craft which are heavies that spawn at about 2000m.  If they are lower, then they are immediately drawn to the height of the first aircraft they opt to go after - whether it be a GA or heavy.  Since heavies are 100% of the time the first planes on site, the battle starts high and remains high.
