Does anyone have any experience with the Japanese premium KI-94-1 that is part of the Samurai trio ?

Not much of a heavy fighter player but i do like rare birds !

When these first came out for sale (back in 1.9 iirc) I remember seeing them in battle.  They were relatively easy to deal with in a LF and were not really hard to deal with in a HF.  And I haven't seen any if any of them since.

I want one myself, but for the same reason, just to have it as part of my collection. Personally I wont be paying for it, hopefully it gets added as a reward for a future event, or available for gold through the tech tree.

Ah Mars ninjad me anyways...

l took a look for you and it appears to be stuck in a gap between heavy fighters and ground attack A/C in performance characteristics.

Worst turn rate of any hvy almost GA turn rate.

Heavy gun armament but derp cannons and two 500 lb bombs.

400 HP which is low for this plane.

420 mph top speed which is on the low side for a hvy, 342 mph is its optimum speed.

Especially bad trait is the pusher engine design everything that shoots at you from your six will take out that engine loose the engine and now your a sitting duck....

Ah hell just get it to collect it if you must but in 2.0 its dog meat from all appearances.

I might just have to pick one up and give her a try.

I seem to be president of the more money than brains club since 2.0 came out.

BTW  I appreciate all the help you put out there for us noobs.  Especially those of us from the frozen north eh!

I got it and I not dare to use in this 2.0.  In 1.9 it was HORRIBLE.

I bought it in the "samurai pack".  I don't like the Ki-88, the Ki-8 is just fun, and never flew the Ki-94-i yet.  Looks like something you struggle with to take out bombers.  A t7 heavy with a 1800m orange line and bizarre handling stats... Not sure even a high dive speed will help.  Of course with twin 37 how could it be worse than the Su-9?

The Ki-94-1 is good for two things, the first is taking out bombers.  The armament on it is fantastic for that purpose.  The other is acting as bait for a wingman in a LF.  When the fighters go for the big ungainly heavy, your wingman can easily get on their tail and wipe them out.  Flew it today with a clan mate and it worked well for both purposes.  It's a decent plane with a wingman.  Flying solo will frustrate you greatly.
Fly crooked and shoot straight.

Got the Samurai bundle, here are my quick thoughts on the Ki-94-1:

-  Guns is this planes' crown jewel, they hit hard, can often take down LF in 3 direct hits or less, and more heavily armored targets (i.e HF, GA and bombers) in around 3-5 hits, depending on your aim. They overheat quickly though and are slow firing with slow shell travel time so adequate lead is required. Recommend for those who are experienced in using slow firing cannons.

- 2x250 lbs bombs reload fairly quickly, and are able to take out 1 (or 2 depending on your aim) heavily armored ground targets in one pass, typical 250 lbs, nothing to write home about

- Survivability is average compared to other HF of its tier, I haven't found that I get more crits to the engine than other HF even with the pusher engine design, even without running equipment to mitigate engine damage

- Speed average to slightly above average compared to HF of its tier (depending on equip and pilot skills), accelerates quickly, but even with its high dive speed its not fast enough to escape higher tier HF and some LF, kind of expected

- Boost is on the low side for a HF (20s) but it can climb like a gecko being chased up a tree (which is to say FAST), so shouldn't need much boost to get over 2000m, which is a shame because it has a low optimum performance altitude

- Maneuverability, oh boy, this is were this plane is a real dog, its turning radius is below average which would be manageable if not for the atrocious roll time, which doesn't allow it to change direction fast enough to get enough lead on targets for the massive cannons to work its magic. Plus its low altitude performance ceiling doesn't help as it's already bad maneuverability becomes worse past 1600m

Overall its a challenging plane to play, but IF you can get into a position for those glorious cannons to do their thing you will destroy anything in your gun sights FAST, the trick is getting into position. Being a BnZ figher this means careful target selection and minimal maneuvering (which is made more challenging due to its sub-par maneuverability)  Plus having such a low altitude performance ceiling, especially for a HF, further hurts its performance. Best used as bomber escort, anti-bomber/GA, or to prey on distracted or less maneuverable planes (of which there aren't many). Credit earning potential is there, IF you can have a good enough game.

One observation I found is that, for a heavy, it wasn't very good at taking out bomber formations unless you had friends up there sharing some of the incoming damage. If you do go for bombers, stay at max distance. I found the US heavy line, for example, much more durable for this role.

An interesting note: it's guns are not synchronized. So, if you were expecting it to be the same as the US T8 premium chain lightning, which has slow firing guns, it's nothing like it. Heavy firing, good dmg, but they fire individually, which is a little disconcerting when you first try them out, but you get used to it.

I haven't tried that plane but based on what you are saying, I would recommend firing at a super close distance(<200m) for maxed out damage.

This heavy would be good at staying after target, slowly reducing speed and approaching, then killing in an instant.
