Anyone else noticed this? Bot GA circling caps endlessly as they path around terrain?

 

Seems to be common in the two new maps- specifically this SE cap zone on Peripheral Mission, and the south cap zone on Road to Rome. The pathing doesn't seem to anticipate the increase in altitude, and the bots circle back into the cap to avoid the terrain.

Yeah I have seen it, they have to circle and gain altitude because they cant make the climb over some mountains.

 

This is sort of an improvement. Prior to 2.0 they would just fly into the mountains.

Bot GAAs are hard-coded to not pull up too much. Sadly, they don't really know how to find alternate paths either, so they end up like that. It's more noticeable in Plateau, where GAAs up to tier 6 get stuck on a regular basis, and even some tier 7s have a hard time figuring out how to gain altitude :ohmy:

Very common on the map with the Mesas too.

 

Its actually often better not to kill enemy ones when they are stuck like this.

On spawning they will find their way to a different cap.

Hmm just had the Road to Rome a few maps ago - the ai went over one of the taller mountains (vs the shorter distance around) without issue.  Maybe it is just cliffs?

What tier and aircraft? I know german GAA bots have an easier time going over obstacles than soviet ones. At tier 7 most of them can find their way eventually, it's at lower ones where they get helplessly lost

Saw a Wirraway run straight into the mountain, same map & area as OP today.

Well didn't exactly see it but it was a bot & exploded about 30s after start in mode that has spawn in that area.

 

Also saw at least one Stuka go clean over the top (again same mountains) first time.

that is a real pro tip, hoom!    o7       of course that has never once occurred to me

 

it must be so hard to code the same bots for the diff maps
