This is an amazing re-cut of the film, very cool. Thanks for sharing this.

i just sobbed like a baby when i saw this, after having seen the entire movie this summer in IMAX

what a great presentation of a giant human tragedy, but this one has a somewhat happy ending... for most some of the Brit soldiers involved      o7

the 1a did seem to float forever at the end of the movie, without power...

idk what the IRL sink rate/glide ratio was, but with no fuel, no ammo...   maybe it was credible?

It makes me appreciate the cockpit shots from the Spitfire through the front windscreen. Barring the higher image quality they look very authentic compared to wartime footage.

That shot- apparently not green screened or CGI- is sublime film making considering a 70mm camera probably barely even fits into those cockpits (in reality some kind of Yak trainer IIRC). It's very sophisticated for such a fast and casual looking shot, which says a lot about the cinematographer.

update...  last night, PBS dropped their Nova documentary on Dunkirk, including the restoration and flight from the very plane that enraged me from that final scene, by flat gliding for an 'hour'

the pilot said that you didn't climb into a Spit, you strapped it on your body

the Merlin just rocked my home theater speakers...  would pay any price for an in-game sound mod when flying mine

Christopher Nolan, the man who directed the film, is actually also a historian, He was very meticulous about how accurately the film portrayed the real event. Although how the movie played out confused the hell out of my father at first, who i took with me to see, I was able to explain to him how the film was progressing.

The film was amazing IMO. I read an article after the fact regarding the historical accuracy of that drifting spitfire, and quite frankly that too lines up relatively to what the real life spitfire could do. IIRC the article said that pilots of the plane swore to the fact it could glide for 12 miles or so.
