The game installed with no problem but I still can't play. I can't even access the Settings menu. When I click Battle and do enter into a game, the screen goes black and after a minute I get an error message and have to close the program.

I suggest you open a support ticket.

Ya right.

You will get more support asking some of the old veterans here then you ever will with a ticket.

No staff has even been on since the 22nd.

let's try these before reply comes from support.
check and repair, safe mode, etc.
It takes about 10 minutes for check and repair.

or delete "preferences.xml".
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Wargaming.net\World of Warplanes\preferences.xml
"preferences.xml" has all the settings written. It includes ID and password.

Not you too?  I knew I wasn't alone in this, but it's spreading. Fast. WG needs to patch this, there's nothing else that will fix it.

This is getting out of hand. What's more, it's getting to become more common.

I was probably player 0 or the second player to have this problem, but clearly, it hasn't ended with me.

PrincessTerik on this forum also has a nearly identical issue to the two of us.

Incidentally, do you also hear the inexplicable sound of waves crashing gently on a shore when you get a black screen, just before it crashes?

Remember, remember the 14th of... June, the day of patch 2.05.  Some say it's great end-game content, some say it's horrible, but history will always recall which it actually was.

Spoiler

Is there some secret way to access this preferences file? I'm running windows 7 64 bit if that helps.

Nothing seems to work.

Have tried:

- Check and Repair tool...nope

- Uninstalling and reinstalling(3x)...nope

- Launching in Safe Mode/default graphics/clearing cache data...nope

- Deleting preferences.xml file....nope

Any more suggestions before I give up?

You could post your OS, system specs and other relevant stuff, I dunno.   For example, if you are on Windows 7 with an 8  year old integrated Intel graphics processor, that could be an issue.

If you are strack with your computer setup, well then, I dunno.   But it is very difficult to troubleshoot someone who says "my computer won't work" when no one knows what you are dealing with.

Hi fonzy. The link goes to a page that shows how to reveal hidden/system files and thank you for that, but how did you use it to fix the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Deltavee

GAA drivers do it in the dirt.

Well, with the help of Wargaming support I FINALLY got the game to work. They suggested that I delete the entire contents of the AppData folder for World of Warplanes.

Opened the Run dialog box (Windows+R)

Entered %appdata%\wargaming.net\World of Warplanes

Deleted all files in the folder. Closed folder

Game worked after that. No black screen. Settings window worked.

Was told I might have to rebind my controls but didn't have to
