Is there a noticeable maneuverability hit to upgrading to the 6 .50s rather than the 4 .50s stock?  I recall reading that the Wildcat was a good plane to not upgrade from 4 .50s, does the same apply to the P40?

I personally haven't noticed any difference.  Mine is fully upgraded, here's my setup:

If you use wargaming's aircraft compare thingy on their website, it shows the only performance differences are that the 4 gun configuration has slightly better airspeed and climb rate. And that's very slightly, so I doubt it's enough that you'd ever notice it. The P-40 needs all the firepower it can get since it only has machine guns. Load 'em up.

The information you read on the F4F is old information, from 1.9 and before. At that time the difference in performance between 4 gun and 6 guns on it was significant, but at that point it was a decent turn fighter. The P-40 was pretty much always better with the 6 gun set-up since it was always a BnZ fighter. The difference between 4 and six guns on the F4F now is only a 4 ft/sec climb rate, not enough to really make or break the plane, I would assume that the P-40 is the same way as well.

The few patches post release would take in account gun weight and distribution and affect roll, climb, etc rates accordingly.  I didn't see this in 1.9 and it isn't in 2.0.  The only detractors armament wise is adding bombs and/or rockets.

Not related, but when you see a bump in maneuverability in a plane but don't see any decreases/increases it is save to assume the time to turn has been decreased by 0.2 and since the stats don't show decimals you don't see the change.

The best bet to see what does what is to use the plane configuration off the home page.  It's the one called "Warplanes" off the top of the page.  Just pick your nation, then your plane type, and the rest is pretty intuitive.

P-40 definitely ain't lacking performance with the 6* 12.7mm, really doubt 4* could be any kind of improvement.

Ingame stats say you lose 1m/s climb rate which seems like a very minor loss.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

The P-40 is my favorite, and like everyone has been saying, definitely keep the six 50's. It needs the firepower.

I've found if you want to increase maneuverability, your best bet in my opinion is to add tuning, control surfaces, and lightweight air frame. That way you get the boost to your maneuverability and also an increase in acceleration, which will help you keep the speed up in turns. I've played with adding polish and or radiators to help my top speed but have just had more luck with the other setup.
