Wow so I've taken the plunge into the 109 line, skipped up to the 109b.

:amazed:

Mother. of. god. What a monster.

Well over 600km/h in a dive with an 8s boost, easily reaches Bombers/Heavies altitudes with plenty of speed at that height, 20mm nose cannon & 4 MGs rip them apart rapidly, yet still TnBs pretty well down low.

It would make a very strong T5 but its in T4.

And I've only been flying with a 4pt, not even fully retrained pilot.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

F and G are crap though :sceptic:

Hoom asked:

For those who have been there how are 109b & 110b?

I love the 109b. I didn't recommend it earlier because most people coming into tier 4 aren't as familiar with the boom and zoom playstyle, which is needed to play the 109b. The cannon's not all that great and overheats quickly, but the four mgs will chew up planes pretty fast. Actually the firepower is similar to the I-17. It's Just the two planes have completely different play styles.

I like the 110b a lot too and keep it as my low tier heavy for dailies. As long as you remember to keep your speed up and not turn too much, it's pretty much a juggernaut. The rear gun doesn't do much other than keep low hp people off your six, but if you keep your speed up, most folks won't be able to keep up anyway. The bombs are good for airfields that only have two AA guns. Just drop 1 a piece on them during your first boom and zoom run and bye bye AA guns. Then you can keep boomin and zoomin in peace.

Hoom also asked:

Whats Madsen precious?

XP-36F
Production P-36A fitted with two 23 mm (0.91 in) Madsen autocannons under the wings, reverted to P-36A because guns imposed an unacceptable performance penalty with top speed of only 265 mph (426 km/h).

They were apparently briefly in the game well before I started playing. Apparently they weren't used much in real life, at least according to the internet.

Lots of great planes listed in this thread! For me its the I-16 (L) Its a bit on the slow side but super maneuverable, and fairly well armed.

110B and I am actually quite surprised no one mentioned Bristol 146.

110B is practically a heavy fighter tutorial, I fought decently even before I put equipment, consumables and crew skills into it. Now with full skills and the like she is simply sealclubbing in T4 matches. I feel sorry especially for those poor Blenheim bombers.

146 is generally good as a turn fighter, though it has significantly slower roll rate than the earlier 133.

Recently I have been running the LaGG-3 series 4 a bit and will highly recommend it as well. Decent speed, good turning and a mixed gun load that can make targets melt, as well as rockets. Fairey Fantome is also very very good, more then able to make Zero cry hacker with it's turn ability and 20mm hub cannon.

I've been really liking the 109 line too; very versatile.  I'm halfway through the 109E and kept the B.

For some reason (*koff*hanger space *koff*) I don't keep any tier 4s besides the premium I207/4 which I cordially dislike. But if I were to go back and get one keeper it would be either the F2A Buffalo or the Bf110B.

I do wish WG would release a Finnish Buffalo skin

So here's to a life of glory

I love my Bristol 146.  She's not the swiftest - often the last fighter to make it to combat - but once you're in the thick of it she shines.  Only the A5M series (or a Spitfire, if you are in a T5 match) can out-turn you, you have enough hp to take a few dings, and those eight .303s allow for a lot of sustained fire so you can put the hurtin' on Red Team.  Just look out for ram-happy heavy fighters.

The Me110B is also a lot of fun but I don't think she's the best beginner plane.  But she has a ton of hp, hits like a ton of bricks, and is very, very fast.  She turns like a train though.

It's a T3 but I get huge success with the Hawk 75M.  So much firepower on a fighter...

someone could start a tier 3 ab fab fav, but i do remember needing to read the forum for T4 reviews from other pilots

T1 through T3 was such a quick blur...  who needs to read a forum to easily blow through those

but T4 becomes the hurt locker for most folks like myself

Tier 4 is where the full game begins - you start to score epic achievements at this point.

I've actually been kind of enjoying my Hurricane I at T4.  I've got enough exp on it to unlock the Hurricane II once the trees are implemented.

I enjoy the I-17 because parking on the tails of the ground attack planes is candy  ;)

Scored Hurricane I in an Albion crate, its very nice.

Similar to the Bristol 146 but its got that Hurricane style, bit faster, not so fast round 360. Can use bombs but I'm not sure its worthwhile.

Regarding the 109B 20mm, I got kinda sick of shooting with it overheated, rolled back to the 12.7mm for hub.

I wish instead of WGs 1, 2 and 3, they would allow us to use MG and cannon separately, so we can spam our MGs while cannons cool down, and to hold our cannon shots until the MGs audibly start hitting.

My current favorite Tier IV has to be the brand-spanking-new Do 17Z Tier IV German Bomber. The JU-88A one Tier higher is woefully underpowered, but the Do 17Z is very good for it's tier.

Given, it IS the first tier IV Bomber, let alone the first RESEARCHABLE Tier IV bomber, so it is definitely a starter Aircraft, a plane you will have to play if you want to go down the German Bomber line,(once it is released in it's entirety) but it's still an extremely strong aircraft for it's tier.

A definite keeper for me.

+1 for the recommendation, but i'm out of up votes today... sorry

i'm a new bomber fan, as i'm back on cold medication, thanks to my wife...  and LFs are just beyond my competency level while using cold meds

bombers don't require the same amount of situational awareness for me, so i added the Do 17z to my hangar today!
