and why do you recommend it over all the others?

F2A.

Needs no gold for access, durable, and decently turns. Four 12.7mm isn't shabby in tier 4 and will go a long way. They heat slowly and deal acceptable damage. The engine power is actually good enough to go to where bot Blenheim bombers are and whack the heck out of them, too.

If gold could be spared I'd say the Ar 197. Biplane with two 20mms and four 50kgs is too good to pass up, and it makes a lot of money being a premium.

"beaufighter & i-207"

The Beaufighter is a tier 5, not 4. It takes a little getting used to for a new player too.

I've got to go with the Bristol 146. Turns decently, is fairly forgiving if you do something crazy, and the 8 .30s are pretty decent for the tier.

My real favorite is the Ki-43 I, but I wouldn't recommend that to a newer player as it takes a lot of experience to get used to it. It has low durability and low firepower, and people know it's weak, so they target it first. But, it has one little advantage in it's ability to out turn just about anything.

Thanks for the heads up on the AR 197 it is very nice.  I would have overlooked it.   I am a new recruit from tanks and have found planes to be very fun.  ( the multitude of free plane codes helps.)

I like the KI-43-Ic.  It can turn on a dime, pick it up and make change.  For tree planes, the A6M1 Zero  was a lot of fun.

Used to be the 146 but, now the only tech tree t4 fighter in hanger is the I-17.

Exact same situation with me. Enjoying the flying now like I couldn't before and with Lethalhavoc making a post to show the way to two freebies that helped a lot. Especially getting the Spit 1a as it allows me to play in the Skies of Albion thing.

I actually very much enjoyed the P-36, doesn't seem a very popular plane though. (presume it plays very similar to F2A?)

I-16 late & I-17 have similar high firepower TnB.

Bristol 146 is pretty OP but loses out due to utter ugliness.

Didn't enjoy my time with the Blenheim F.

Only T4 currently in my hangar is the I-207/4 which is nice in its own way but its hard to do well in a lot of the matches it sees.

The I-207/4 raceplane is good too if you managed to get it when it came out. I think it needs a pilot with both Marksman skills to make their shots literally home into their targets for massive damage...

absolutely what it was intended for...

but a real sophie's choice decision for us all to make, to narrow it down to just one fav T4

i do okay in most of the T4s i own, but i love flying heavies...   so 110b for me

edit:  strangely, i had completely overlooked the t4 heavy that i do the best in

my profile says... in kills, in aerial damage and living through the battle = the blennie F

it did not even pop into my mind as a fav, sadly

I hate the Ar 197 with a vengance. It is OP. In particular, it seems to be really good against GAAs, including my poor IL-2 With Rear Gunner.

But never fear, for I had a blast exacting my revenge last night by blasting those idiotic little Pay2Win machines with my XFL-1 Airbonita(which I got for free). Who knew that vintage biplanes hate being hit by a 37 mm M4(known as the T9 in testing) cannon?

For those who have been there how are 109b & 110b?

@Hoom

110b is the bee's knees for sure.  I reckon it is the only tier IV heavy I have flown.  I had no idea what I was doing.  I was only vaguely beginning to understand boom and zoom.  I think I had it backwards I was zooming to fights.  Booming at lights.  And then dead.  Still managed to do fairly well.  The tail gun is meh so that can save you like in the FW 57.

I really like my 109B.  I get clubbed by them a lot too.  I've seen way too much of Colddawg's 109B with Spanish markings in the kill trailer right after I die.  P-36's are kind of boned in game.  IRL, according to the RAF, they could out-turn Spitfires, they just couldn't touch their speed.

My two T4 keepers (for missions, not seal clubbing) are the I-17 and the Blenheim F. The I-17 has awesome firepower with 4 .30's and a 20mm hub cannon, and also an awesome turn time. Great TnB and an overall joy to play. I actually don't like the Blenheim that much, but I keep it around for the bombs and the strong rear gun (again for missions).

Sadly none of the tech tree planes are keepers for me at. I think it's because so many have machine guns.

Now there are three premium planes I like, all have cannons.

Ar 197 - Agile, bombs, and 2 20mm cannons. Whaaaaaaat?

Fantome - 2 MGs and a hub mounted 20mm. Turns on a dime

LaGG-3 4 - Probably my favorite plane at T4. It has rockets, 20mm cannon, who needs handling?

I personally like the feeling you get when you land a well aimed shot. Not a big fan of MG planes.
