Merely by accident I discovered the Tornado ties into the Spitfire Mk.IX and then got curious over the Do 217M.  The 217 leads to the Me 265.  The tech tree itself doesn't show the lines but if you go to the individual planes on the tech tree you'll see where they tie into the rest of the tree.

Unfortunately the tie into the Do 17z or Hurricane I are not there.  I am assuming the Hurricane will tie off the Skua (only T3 UK multi-role) and the Do-17Z will tie off the FW-57.

yeah I would guess so as well, I have German heavies and GAs all the way up to T8/T9 respectively, so Fw57 shouldn't be a problem for me.

Just curious, what is WG's policy regarding new tech tree branches? I mean, in this case, some Fw57 owners may have their elite statuses lost out of nowhere, is there any kind of compensation?

WoT keeps the tank elite status but I am not sure about WoWP. I am thinking no as the Tornado was elite before the micro patch this morning but wasn't after.  Further history includes several rebalancing to the plane lines that caused my F2F to lose elite status and my FW-57 lost elite when the GA line hit.

Elite status during line revamps get messy - AW is a prime example - they rebalanced and added tanks across several patches and I found tanks that were elite prior in a higher tier but the replacement tank wasn't owned and the old tank was no longer fully researched due to equipment changes.  Higher tier = more xp so the refunded xp wasn't enough to elite the old tank anymore.

hmm, so I shouldn't expect an auto-research of my Do-17Z for having elite Fw57 then?

I ask this because ...well, the Fw 57 was not particularly a pleasant plane to fly when I was in my days flying tier 3s, but that might just be because I was new to WOWP back then.

Just keep ~14k in free xp.  The FW-57 is still unpleasant as the engines need a touch more power to properly bnz.  Right now it's the best T3 bomber hunter.

I need every bit of my free xp for my t10 German GAA. The 1099's 50 mil is good, but I don't really like something so unsuitable for air combat (although I somehow shot down 4 enemy planes with it this morning).

I think the Tornado should never have been able to be elited - think that was an oops.  The Dornier 217-M could not be elited yesterday, though I did elite the Hurricane 1 without having the Hurricane 2. That was an oversight somewhere.

Although here is what will happen. I will generate enough XP on my 217 to get the next plane when it comes out, and a ton extra. I am already over 18k. So the day the line gets expanded I will research the next one (HE111 perhaps?)  and then have a ton of XP sitting there. Don't see how to avoid it.

I think the German bomber line will hook off the Fw 57. Thank god I have a metric boatload of free XP after Santa gifts from my family. Glad not to have to play the Fw 57 again.

Wish the Germans had a fun little T2 or T3 with a rear gunner so I could start another crew. Like the British Demon. That is fun, where the Fw 57 and Fw 189 are grindy as all get out.

Do 217m can take over a mining plant all by itself

I think it is balanced

20mm in tier 3 hurt.  Besides, even if you have to fly it again, it only takes exactly 1 daily double win to move through teir 3 entirely.  :izmena:

uhh, I believe a Blenheim can do that as well....if it can actually find one (very difficult for a tier III to meet a plant)
