I have some gold from the WOT boxes but don't really need it there. So I was thinking of buying the A6M3 exp, Ki-88, and J4M, (and J8M in the future). How fun are these planes? Also less inclined but also considering La-9RD or Yak-3RD.

Opinions on them for those that own them? other recommendations for fun playing?

Jump on that Yak-3RD like a rat on a Cheeto!

It's getting taken out of tech tree when update hits!

The swell line is approaching!  Go!  Now!

I took the advice of a sage last night and bought -3RD.

If I were forced to rank them by a subjective fun value I would rank them as:

J8M >>>>> J4M > A6M3 = Ki-88

Mind-warping acceleration >>>>> good all-around performer > bigger wing-mounted cannons = hub-mounted cannon

Just wish the J8M were a Komet - I have a skilled up German pilot I wish to push further, but only have a basic Japanese pilot :p

Bought it and already played it, much more fun than I expected :great:

9k gold left and undecided what to buy, but I'm in no rush (fingers crossed for new year's discounts)

Haven't picked up the others but do not underestimate the M3...

I've got a YouTube video rendering ATM, will post link when uploaded.

Basically everyone thinks it sucks because the 30mm can be tricky to master.

FYI the video will be more focused on conquest game mode but it's all M3 and will give you a good taste of the guns

If you can hit stuff with the German 30mm the Japanese 30's feel about the same.  The J4M is like any heavy type plane - made or broke by energy management.

The sum of the Japanese premiums is they all require deliberate shooting with trigger management vs spray and pray.

Not until you start unlocking 20mm cannon.  Anything with 12.7mm and below you can just hold down that trigger all day.

Yak-3RD is my most flown craft...followed by my La-5 and La-7. It's very good once you learn trigger control.

The a6m3 30mm are difficult to land hits with and overheat very quickly.   Since you are usually turning in a zero, landing with both calibers doesn't seem practical and seemed to happen less than landing hits with the XFL/P39n-1 37mm nose gun + mgs in turns.  The guns are in the wings and spread out vs the easier to use nose cannons in the American premiums of similar tier.  It's a slow, squishy zero with 30mm that are harder to land consistent hits with then it's 20mm tech tree cousin.  That said, when they do hit and aren't overheated, they do good damage.  Full disclosure:  I don't like zeros, never have, they aren't my style and I don't like spread out wing guns and I have bad aim.  If you like zeros and can aim slow firing, wing mounted weapons, it may be fun for you.  I got it free and feel like I got what I paid for.

Patch warning said they are changing up what will be available in the premium shop.  So, if something catches your eye, you might want to grab it.  If nothing really interests you now, you might hold off til the 21st and see what they change up.
