 Whats wrong with it?

Looks fast, high & reasonably good turning, only big issue looks to be the firepower but the B-20 (S) have a nice range & they're nose mounted.

I-220 looks like a particularly tasty beastie, I'm quite itching to get a hold of it but I need to free up a Hangar Slot/Pilot first & I'm not sure which it'll be.

Firepower is the main issue with it. Unlike the Yak it isn't that super maneuverable, so you have this cautious, tedious style of play that I find irritating.

The 210 feels like a a house cat trying to take down a moose.  If you keep chewing you'll eventually get that kill.

That bad huh?

I didn't like the lack of firepower of LaGG-3 but handled it much better later on with the Yak-1, did feel the lack of oomph on La-5 before getting the B-20 (S).

I feel 2* B-20 (S) shouldn't be all that bad.

Edit: Oooh snap, I was getting confused switching between planes there :hiding:

Yeah top config I-210 has the same 2* ShVAK as stock La-5 :amazed:

Combined with not turning particularly well I can see that making for very frustrating play.

On the other hand, having already passed up to La-9 I've already got top engine & gun so that should make it less bad.

Side point: La-5 notoriously didn't do too well at high altitude due to non-supercharged engine so how can the I-210 do better while using the same engine? :child:

OK so I made the jump, got the MiG-3.

Interesting being fast & high in such a low tier.

Feels a fair bit like P-40 but handles height so much better.

What surprises me is I keep running into planes I'd expect to find much lower down.

Edit: does anyone run it without the wing guns to keep it max quick/nimble?

So I'm well into the I-210 now, I don't think its that bad really.

Definitely lacks killing power but it goes fast & high while still turning well so I'm finding it fairly pleasant to play. Nice clean shape on the upgrade too.

eg the Me 209 v4 premium is fast & high but turns like a Heavy & has similarly poor firepower (yes its a tier lower), thoroughly awful to play in comparison.

Definitely looking forward to that I-220 though.

I've also finished up with the Yak-3, bought Yak-15.

So far (not upgraded) its a bit slower than I'd sort of expected but turns very nice, lacks firepower with just the 2* 23mm but the upgraded versions should help.

I wish I could find better sound balance so the engines are a bit louder.

I had the option to get the Lag, Yak, or Mig/I line.  What it came down to wasn't firepower or turning but altitude.  I found in my 109TL most of the T8 battles had climbed up to the 2k-3k+ part of the sky.  All that turning goes away in the orange.

So I went with the Mig line.  Eventually I will unlock the rest.

I'm on the 210, it has no killing power. I did manage a 4k damage game today, but that was because some players kept coming back, and I shot down a flight of bombers twice. Think I am going to free xp out of the plane tomorrow

FYI the Mig and Lag lines share a lot of parts as does the Yak and Su-9 line. Essentially by working both lines you can unlock components "faster".

Lavochkin's radial goes to I-210...the I-220 uses IL-10's stock motor as its top motor (also IL-8's top motor) so you are throwing some 30k EXP that could go to the next tier away if you are progressing in the Ilyushin line and plan to go that way.

The light Yak's motors are one level more powerful than the heavy Yak's. The synchornized B-20 of the tier 7 Yaks and I-220 can be unlocked one tier earlier by La-5.

...there are a lot of interchangable parts from every line of that nation that could potentially be unlocked one tier early saving you from stock grinding at higher tiers...or you grind an easier line and start another line with some work done...Planes is great in this regard, as you don't have to stockgrind everything like Ships most of the time...and more applicable than Tanks.

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

I also search the tree for planes that as stock unlock another planes research parts.  Doing so could save 30k+ xp.

For me, already have the IL10 fully unlocked. Going up the LaGG and IL lines along with Yak MR (which doesn't help this grind as much)

Yeah I've missed out on that free engine upgrade for the I-220 as I've not gone up the GA line.

IRL the F-86 could go supersonic in a dive, the MiG-15 could not.

To be more specific, it could go supersonic in a dive, but each aircraft could only do it once.
