it's probably time to take this out.  Any low-speed/light craft can't survive or escape it.

It is a PIA.  When I go to bed at night I check the closet and under the bed for Beaufighters :/

They just need to remove ramming, it doesn't add anything to the game.

Just dodge them.  Collisions are pretty intuitive.  If you're standing in the street and a bus is coming, would you move?   Dodge, turn, get on his tail and kill him.    Just realize the ai bots are coded to try a ram if they think they will win.  And play accordingly.

If you're in a low speed/light aircraft, such as a zero, if you realize there is a HF operating in your area (press left-alt key to bring up class types on mini-map), keep your speed up enough that you aren't stalling out.  Then turn into him, but not quite so much that he can get a head-on situation.  You'll finish your turn close enough in range to get shots on him (hopefully crit an engine) and if you do or he turns, you kill him.  No collisions required.

Oh, and since that's your first post, welcome to the forums!

:honoring:

But...next time you have an issue you struggle with, instead of saying "gee, this should be taken out, I don't like it..." ask how other players are dealing with whatever the thing is.

do all bots dodge a headon in the same direction?

from my vantage point, they seem to be programmed to climb and go left?

that's if they're not planning to ram you, i suppose

Aside from the head-on with its high risk of ramming or the not quite head-on: I've had some success with turning into a loop approximately perpendicular to the path of the Heavy, done right you're presenting your wingtip to him = minimising target area, he won't be able to adjust aim quick enough to keep guns on you & you can often come out of it close behind & on his tail.

Also rather than a late dodge upward or to side try to dodge down, too often dodging high/side gets me rammed, seem to get away from it more with a down dodge.

C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

I thought that too, so I've tried a couple times to dive to dodge.  They just dive as well to ram you.

Best way I've found to dodge is to boost at a right angle to their incoming course.  The one downside is it's still likely they'll get shots off on you.

Why go head to head with a heavy?  Spiral at them then swing around to get a few shots on their engines.

The only times heavies will get out of the way is if they take enough damage (~50%+), or if you are in a heavy yourself.  I've made them turn off of a head on with my Starfire's Vulcan.

Keep your head on the swivel.

When ramming meant death for all involved, it used to be a cool way to get multiple bandits off your tall.

Now people want ramming completely removed.

I think ramming is fine. People are just salty they cannae ram tha' blighter to death n' take 'im down wit' 'em. 'tis no longer a defiant "I'LL TAKE YE WIT' ME" gesture but a rock-beats-paper equation where Heavies and GAAs have an "unfair advantage" because of their high hp.

You don't hear the heavy or GAA pilots whinin'

But a truce to this mournful story

For death is a distant friend

So here's to a life of glory

And a laurel to crown each end

AI is one, the other day I noticed a guy in a Beaufighter using ramming as his main offensive tactic. First I got rammed out of nowhere from behind as he zoomed in on me while I was shooting down an enemy plane and I though oh well, happens. Then my clan mate said over comms he got rammed by a Beaufighter in the same manner so I took a few steps back, locked on to him and watched how he was flying. He flew to high altitude, then zoomed down to ram planes with little damage done to himself and as far as I can tell he didn't even fire his guns. I was like oooooooooookey... :sceptic:

it's 'WG approved' as a tactic... but that tactic has made it much easier for my WT friends to say "no thanks" when i've asked to join me here

or maybe it's just an excuse not to join me here...

Russians think it's okay...and WoWP is made by Russians, so it's okay.

Seriously though, stop going head on if you don't want to get rammed, and maneuver more.

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

...do you have fire at least 24 for each heavies because those blasts were nerfed?

For me the issue isn't that I struggle with it - as you say it is fairly easy to avoid (although having to avoid it is still annoying). The issue is that it isn't limited to bots. I often ram low HP targets so I didn't have to come around for another pass (especially if they're more maneuverable than me) and it feels cheap and unrealistic every time I do it. This shouldn't be a legitimate tactic for anything but an "I'll take you down with me" scenario.

Ramming, IMO, needs to be lethal for all participants like it used to be.

Fly me closer, I want to hit them with my sword!

If you cant escape it in a light craft maybe you should try WOT instead
