There's an influx of bombers on the way. What's the best plane to shoot them down? Thinking might be a P38 weekend for me

Heavy fighters mostly, geared for more engine power.  I know the Blenheim can make 11,000 ft.  Be prepared for that height and know you will stall a bit.

That or a me410. Basically any high flying HF on all tiers I-X. Probably the most dominant HF with high firepower with speed + altitude will be the german HFs, would be best suited to the task. Pretty sure some of the BnZ LFs can do it too like: BF109s, P-51, FW190, P1092, P1101, FJ1, F86, Attacker, Swift. Not sure about the F6u & F7u but with their insane boost rates it could be possible to belly shot bombers. Oh don't forget about the pancake. That thing can hang like a kite even at high alts and still be able to shoot things at long range with the 20mm buzzsaws.

Not at the pancake yet. Unlocked the Me 410 couple weeks ago, was waiting for a discount to buy but might just do it.

BTW, I haven't tried with the P47N yet, but it would if it had the big paddle bladed propellers.  F4U-4 might, also.

But the thing is, the more time you spend chasing bombers, the shorter time you have to score points.  Your choice.

Any of the multi-roles you mentioned are too limited by altitude.

Even the 190.

I'm guessing anything that can even reach them without having to catch its breath half-way through is a good start. I consider bombers the anti-hero of the GAAs; one brings the battle down to earth, the other brings it back up into space. I would also advice figuring out where their gunners are so you can avoid them.
This is my IL-2 (t). There are many like it, but this one is mine. :child:

Come on up boys......the weather is fine up here. My rear gunner hate everyone & is leveled up, and when I jump into his seat,...( rear gunner ) gets another boost in DPS. So if you think Bombers are easy target your dreaming, Anyone with a leveled rear gunner will hold it's own against a heavy fighter. My rear gunner can chew 2 fighters at a time. Remember on your way up to me, i'll be chewing on your butt.  But I will give you one hint on taking one down, " if you can sneak up on a bomber & catch him on a bomber run, & he's not watching his 6, because he's concentrating on ground targets, you might get him.   Good Hunting the Newbie Bomber pilots.

I have found the F7F (tier 7 US Heavy) with no anti-ground weapons shines at anti-bomber support in both AI and player. It chases them down and can heavily would a plane without reheat, and luckily bombers arent manuverable.

The UK tier 4 and 5 heavy fighters are good at hunting the brittish bomber, but that makes sense. The tier 5's dorsal gunner is good for keeping fire on the US bomber so it cant easily fly off or out manuver.

" The UK tier 4 and 5 heavy fighters are good at hunting the brittish bomber, but that makes sense."    You will never see a Tier 5 heavy in the same battle group as a tier 3 bomber.

I accidentally smashed two sentances together and if you read the next sentance I made the right statement. I just meant to say the tier 5 is just as hardy and its dorsal gun can forward/side-fire when fighting the US Bomber.

Anything with a 2k+ ceiling. The 190s and British Heavies top out at about 1.5k which is too low to be effective. I'd choose a 109 over a Mosquito as a bomber hunter.

Maybe we can have the Defiant as a low tier bomber hunter :p sure would be funny to have a largely unarmed fighter as a playable airplane

Soon? I hate them already and that's BEFORE they were available in large numbers. I might stick to the German heavies for a bit in the face of this.

109, 51, Mig line, 110 line, and P-38 line. May have missed one or two. German GAs surpassingly do well too thanks to the huge guns and long amount of boost. As long as you are intercepting instead of chasing you can get at least 3.

The (not so) amazing Chokai is back! And he's hit all his personal goals sans one! Seriously though, nice to be back, looks like he game is improving. I continue to try to recruit new people.

I just checked it, the P47N with the big engine can make 9000ft but then goes into the red.

I haven't had issues with bombers as of yet as a GAA. They're the one aircraft that won't shoot back at me while on the same sector :honoring:

i was shocked how high i could get in the t3 blenheim

there were several HF bots... only one tried to climb to me, but i nosed up immediately and he gave up after a while (who would think to code an 'i-give-up' if/then statement?)

it's sooo slow, but climbs quicker than i had guessed it would
