There was a mini-patch earlier but the server is up as of now.
C'est magnifique, mais ce n'est pas le SerB.

Wow, is it now possible to get from Tier I to Tier IX in a little more than 300 battles?

I used 30 of those ground verification things, but yes, yes it is.

WG's shortsightedness strikes again. If new players can grind through all the trees that quickly with this new mode, then they'll get bored and leave faster than the pre-2.0 crowd did.

Wow, just wow, I have over 5k battles in 1.9 and was only able to obtain 1 tier 9...  Granted I have a lot of planes of various types and nationalities and didn't just concentrate on climbing one ladder but to get to a tier 9 in 300+ battles is proof this game is screwed...  So much for pride in your effort...

And that's where people keep getting this wrong, not only in this game but in WoWs and WoT as well. People keep thinking that those they aim their titles for are like them, that want a challenge but the current gamer-crowd does not want a challenge in any classical sense. They may want the illusion of challenge, but what they really want is instant gratification. They want to win easily and they want to go to the top easily. If there is a rough grind, they'll go for another game. That's why WG introduced XP boosters to WoT, and even though the XP reqs to get to tier 10 was really low and easy to get in the first place they added XP flags and XP camos to WoWs as well (!). And people are overjoyed and happy, playing for the fun of it. Not oldtimer gamers of course, they are not happy about this but they are no longer the main target audience for WG and other gaming companies out there. And by the looks of it the same formula is being applied here, with ground and aerial verification to boost XP gain and otherwise easy road to get there. Said it before, several places, oldskool gaming is out and casual gaming is what's coming full tilt.

So Camo, took you 278 battles to get tier 2 british and 193 more to get Japanese tier 2? If you had spent less time clubbing more time actually grinding tiers bet you could have had more then 1 tier 9. But gotta pad those stats right...

Grinding is not "challenging".  It's lame and boring. And, when the game had/has 3 tiers in a match, it's "challenge" by luck of the draw in where you land in the tier range.

"Challenge" should come from mastering the game (ideally vs other players -although, here, we have game mastery vs bots).  I've been gaming since games were ASCII or text only based.  Console? Try Colecovision.  Aahh, the days when "challenge" meant fighting bad early game design and buggy, un-updatable software!!  The days where "increased difficulty" meant the computer got to cheat more.

Screw that "challenge" and screw the grinding "challenge".

I want to get in and play.  And I want the challenge to come from the enemy team, not the tech tree.   People who don't want to "grind" for "challenge" aren't just the helicopter-mom'd participation trophy winners, they're also "old timer gamers" who now have jobs, family and other hobbies that impact available time for gaming.

I agree the XP economy feels much looser than it did back when I last played at 1.0.   It also feels more fun.

Taking SnickerDoodle as an example, he exactly the kind of player you "old timers" want in this game.  He's statistically average, but active in reading and posting in the forums, ostensibly to improve and/or figure out how to get more success or enjoyment out of the game.   He's a player who's played across all the classes (even if he's mostly focused on one line).  He's also a player that probably isn't going to leave because he hits the maximum tech tree level.  His most played craft is the Spit DB, which is an awesome bot hunter.   And...that means his most flown tier is 5,6,7 (tier up or down matches from a tier 6 craft).  Which is near the sweet spot for the gaming population anyways.

Tisk Tisk "old timer" gamer for berating a newer player's success in climbing the tech tree efficiently....he's having fun playing the game and giving you another human teammate or target, depending on red/blue team.

GJ on your jet, SnickerDoodle and quit crashing the servers!

Gameplay at tier 9, the highest matches I've been in with my highest tier (8) plane, is the same as it is at tier one.  What changes is that everything happens much quicker and targets are often smaller since guns have longer ranges.   If a player has fast enough reflexes and a big enough monitor (or good enough squinting vision) to cope with the speed and smaller targets, they will be competent at tier 9/10 if they are competent at tier 1.

Unlike WoT, where 1000s of battles may pay dividends in learning the various maps and their MOBA like "lanes", we don't have any of that here.  Maps with circles on them are functionally the same at tier 1 as tier 10, regardless of the scenery we're flying over.

The good news there is that it allows a player to pick a tier that has a game speed and pace that they are comfortable with.  And...without Clan Wars or any such incentives (not wanting to be tier 8 in a tier 8,9,10 match), there's no reason to race up the trees unless there's a craft that someone wants to try out.  Tier 4-6 was the most populated years ago when I played, it seems the most populated now, and I imagine will remain the most populated.  So...people are essentially crawling, walking, and running all at the same time in this title.

I wasn't berating SnickerDoodle or anything, what are you on about? My post was a reply to a comment about the "short-sightedness" of WG, thus a comment towards oldtimer/oldskool gamers. Sure, being retired I classify as oldtimer by default and I started playing games on 'Pong' console back in the late 70's, then VIC-20, C-64, Amiga and onwards so I classify as oldtimer gamer as well. Difference is, I acknowledge the market as it is becoming. My post was about being an oldtimer gamer and seeing the market-shift as WG concentrates on the new generation of players that wants to get to the top as fast as they can. If you've read my previous posts on the subject, though that is not something I assume people have done, you'd know then as well.

You say you want to get in and play, get right to the action, and that's either the new generation of gamers or oldtimers that have acknowledge the shift and just wanting to have some fun. Basically what I've been saying, and talking about for weeks.

SnickerDoodle may, or may not, be of that group and that was not relevant to me as that was not the person I was commenting on. Some times I swear people just skim through posts and jump to conclusions...

EDIT: I guess I need to bring back TL;DRs. TL;DR in that post was 'Times are changing, and as a gamer we either accept and change or forever be lost as the old times are not coming back'. Had nothing to do with Snicker.

If you figure ~1000xp per battle (conservative assuming every game is a loss and no daily bonuses) one will end up with about 300,000 xp which is enough to make it to T8 easily.  Add in daily bonuses, etc then T9 won't be a problem as will unlocking other planes to T3-4.
