Holy crap, six losses in a row(four in Bf 110 E, which was torturous.  Had I been in a regular fighter I probably could have saved some of those losses.)  Kept getting stuck with people who ditched the match after dying once, and this one yokel who brought his tier 1 buddy into a tier 6 game.

prob the same guy that i got this week...  a t5 that brought his t2 buddy, or maybe vice versa

neither did anything, and it was a california wildfire roflstomp

late game, even our bots complained about them being on our team...

I think one of my favorite bot exchanges was the following:

Bot A: Sorry for letting you down, human.

Bot B: Hey, don't distract the pilot!

Okay, I think the P-40 Warhawk is in the running for my favorite fighter I've played yet.  Everything about her is so gooooood.  I mean I love the punch of the Bf 109 B(plus I got my first Ace with her!) and the nimbleness of the Hien but Warhawk just hits that magical middle.

On a different note, thank god the Bristol 146 is leaps above the 133 in performance.  I can call her Bristol BBQ as a compliment.

On a different different note, did not like the I-16(late) at all.  Probably one of my least-liked fighters yet.

So far my most enjoyed planes: Warhawk, Bf 109 B, Hien

Funny how you can do well with Japanese Army line but not the Polikarpov...of all things. The Polikarpov FoV is one of the top TnB combatant in their respective tiers.

You probably just don't click well with Russians...

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

It's worse than the Ki-43-I in every relevant category except roll rate and HP, and carries missiles.  Ki-43-I is faster, turns better, climbs better, has better optimum altitude, has better stall speed, better controllability, and has a much more powerful engine.  It felt like I was flying a Ki-43-I with three pigs tied to the fuselage.

I'd rate the Ki-43-I, the A6M1, and the Bristol 146 all as better TnBers than the I-16(late).

The I-16(early) wasn't as bad though.

Got P-38F, Spitfire I and Hs 129 B now.  The Lightning is amazing, even stock.  Feels like a breeze compared to the Bf 110s.  Spitfire on the other hand... I'll reserve judgment until I get the 20mms.  Hs 129 B is a bit of a struggle, but the big underbelly cannon is pretty nice for chewing away ground targets and the occasional pursuer who overshoots over me.

Feels like the worst thing about playing GAs is you have to completely rely on your ally fighters played by humans to be reasonably smart in responding to situations.  With fighters, MRs and even HFs you can easily switch between assaulting cap defenders and defending your own caps, but GAs are basically stuck in ground attack since they don't have the speed to go back to help defend even if they wanted to, and don't have the mobility to really fight anything besides other GAs.

Now have my first tier 7, Ki-84 Hayate.  Even stock she feels great.  Also up to Me 410 Hornisse, Spitfire V and A6M5.

Also switched over to the I-17 instead of the I-16s and I like the I-17 a loooot more than the I-16(late).  Except no flaps, wthUSSR?

Hornisse is a sweet heavy fighter. Hope you enjoyed the Spitfire I! I've stopped my progress on most of my planes except for the BATPLANE, Ju 88P and Hornisse. My sweet little Boomerang is a seal clubber and credit grinder right now.

Personally I didn't like the Hs, I prefered the Stuka. However, while GAAs depend on their team to not lose the caps it gets, you have complete control over what cap your team will get, especially when flying the ILs. It becomes more noticeable the higher you go in tiers, where you become faster and your weaponry improves (my IL-20 can cap a Mining Facility in one U-turn pass). It's a matter of understanding the state of the battle and knowing where you can reliably go without getting immediately shot down, as well as your damage output so you can capture sectors efficiently without wasting ordnance or overheating your cannons. Another thing you get in higher tiers is reliable tailgunners; at tier 7 they can properly shoot down fighters chasing you around, and they get even deadlier from there :playing:

This is my IL-2 (t). There are many like it, but this one is mine. :child:

The power of player-controlled GAA really shows when there is only one GAA per team in match and there are two plants...without a player or two dedicated to defending from that threat the battle is all but decided...

-------------------------------------------------

I wonder what did Polikarpov had against flaps...the TSh-3 has flaps, the Polikarpov planes do not.

mfw I take more sectors, get more combat points, do the most damage to ground targets, AND kill more air targets than the highest-scoring fighter player on my team when I'm in the Hs 129.  Good lord.  Finished that grind and moved on; Hs 129 is fine at what it does but it really sucks either not having a escort when you really need one, or your ally fighters suck at keeping the caps you've taken.

Bought some Santa boxes, got YP-29, Model 81A-1, XF4U-1, A-26B, Ar 67, Do 17 Z-7, Blenheim Mk.IV, Hawk II, Ki-43-Ic.  Haven't tried all of them yet, but of the ones I have so far...

YP-29: Unimpressed.  Gonna just leave it as an extra bunk space.

Model 81A-1: I really wanted to like this, but 2x12.7mm is junk when you're more BnZ rather than a TnB.

XF4U-1: I like this one, first impression is good.

A-26B: Not bad.  First time playing bombers so we'll see.

Blenheim Mk.IV: Not as good an impression as the A-26B, but will hold judgment.

Ki-43-Ic: Ehhhh... a Hayabusa without 20mm just can't cut it in my book.

Maybe if we're lucky they'll introduce Japanese bombers that fly like heavy fighters...

Japanese Army line is like, what? Three years in. Don't expect much when it comes to tech tree addition...

At least the A-5 feels like a decent upgrade.

A-5 is really, really good. I still keep it in my hanger although I haven't played it in a while. I flew that against the Old Salties and did well enough. Dora, fully upgraded, is a monster. And then there's the TIE fighter/Batplane...

So I kinda stumbled on a technique.  I imagine others have figured it out already, but it's what I call boost-pumping, or smoking the engine(since it emits tons of smoke from your engines on a bunch of planes.)  Hold down your boost until you get up into your yellow speeds, one your plane can't maintain on it's own, then start tapping your boost key, like twice a second.  Your speed will maintain, and your boost gauge won't deplete; in fact if you time your key taps just right, you'll actually GAIN boost back while still maintaining boosted speed.  I've been able to zip around in Zeroes at 400+ kph on the horizontal consistently.

Okay, Ju 88 P.  This is the first plane I've outright skipped the rest of it's grind with free XP(used about 40k to finish it.)  Holy crap it's the worst GA I've flown so far, no ordnance and the 37mm/50mm just don't do enough damage to contest caps reliably.  I'd rather fly the Eule again and I didn't like that one either.

Also decided I don't really like the Me 410.  The guns are great and all, but when I zoom out of a fight too many enemies at this tier are fast enough to keep up with me long enough to drain a good chunk of my HP.  Not to mention it's really difficult to carry full bot teams with this since you can't kill a bunch of enemies in succession fast enough.
