Why can I only make like 3 upvotes a day? I can't recall ever hitting a limit in the WoT forum.

I think it's more like 5 a day. Way back when there was the great plus one minus one war & some sensitive people complained so the snowflake protectors decided to removed the down votes & limit the up votes.

I still don't understand why they took out the downvote... or (even more recently) removed API access to player count...

The drive by voting particularly the down voting was out of hand. I thought that requiring a reason for the vote would have been a much better solution but I don't run the boards. On the player count they are trying to hide that the increase in players was not what they hoped it would be.

It is in fact 5 per day in WOWP, as tested.

For your first question see post #2. For the second question I think they did it for a couple different reasons, #1 reason is I don't think they had the numbers they initially expected at release of 2.0 so they pulled the access to the population numbers in order to prevent people from forming an opinion based solely on the numbers & get them to try it. Another reason being that opponents of the new game couldn't use the poor turn out as ammunition to bash 2.0. The one guarantee is if the new game was doing well WG would be telling us about it.

Because I made a suggestion thread to have it removed....which was apparently ignored for several years before the mods/WG decided, "oh ya, this makes sense."  Downvote creates and feeds negativity, a lot of it was "I don't like this idea" or "I don't like the person who posted this" as opposed to "this is bad or incorrect information, inciting, etc".

Except that the downvoting stopped and the trolling got worse and worse... thats why we dont ger high res screen shots of US planes anymore.

Al they needed to do was make the up and down voting public so you can see the list of names voting.  I believe that is the way it is done on EU forms.

A certain clan was the worst at it. Basically mass upvoting their own posts while downvoting others.

It was hilarious to watch.

I don't know. maybe the negativity just finds another outlet, like trolling instead of a simpler '-'?

As a sometime WoT refugee, I can tell you when they stopped allowing one team to abuse talk to another in chat, the venom just got dished out within the 'team'- such as it was, or after the poison hit, became.

Like I said above the voting was out of control and who was posting had more to do with whether they were getting up voted or down voted than what they posted. The EU WoWP forum also took away down votes but they also added accountability to the up votes as your name is listed as liking a post.

I used to have a handle on life until it broke off.

Because instead of receiving a bunch of downvotes for bad content the 'artist' was being told to his face publicly that his 'work' was less than what would be considered not garbage.

This caused a meltdown because up to that point all they could receive was upvotes... and that is why you always leave a note.

very much agreed, Mr Irreverent...

notes bring clarity to a conversation, much like citations in literature

they seem to offer authenticity to a comment and clarity to conversation
