Well the actual shell velocity should be:

Vs = V0(your calculated speed) + Vd(extra distance traveled / time elapsed) - Vp(the speed of your plane);

since Vd = Vp, Vs = V0;

we all wrong, apologies for our mistake

I was thinking in a relativistic frame -:

But that's assuming WG does change shell velocity dynamically according to the speed of your aircraft

While the m2 50 cals may be a tad faster then they should be i can tell you the mk 108 30mm are about right where they should be...SLOW AS HELL. The modernized 20mm german rotary cannon at t9/10 is also pretty spot on if not a little too fast but I'm not complaining. :D

Basically, because the bullets are traveling with the added velocity of the source and since the target and the source are traveling at the same speed, the bullets might as well have been firing from a stationary source at a station target. But if it were, it would take more time for the bullets to reach the target because the muzzle velocity is a constant.

To rewrite my calculations if you can't make them out in the picture.

v=s/t

v=(578m/s)/0.2sec

v=2890m/s

this gives us the u (total added velocity of the bullets)

u=vs+vB

2890m/s-76.9m/s=vB

vB=2813m/s

relative to a person person on the ground the bullets would have traveled farther and therefore faster, which is were I believe the majority of the confusion is coming from.

If the plane was aiming at a stationary target it would take less time for the bullets to reach the target. Shooting at a faster target would take more time.

Similar compression of time/distance/velocities as for Warships?

It feels more like aircraft in wowp are scaled up by 10x. This is especially evident if you play WT and wowp back-to-back. It feels like you're shooting at the head of a pin even in arcade WT.

I'm pretty sure wows just increases the speed of everything, so in actuality 20kts is more like 100kts.

I don't think even ARMA models that.
