So I want a premium Russian plane to help train my pilot. Can anyone tell me where to stay away, or which ones to get?

Stay away from the IL-1.

P-40 M105 is a workhorse and very competitive in its tier.

Complete the mission for the free I-207/4...it can be done in a day.  Mission ends soon.

The LBSh is good if you happen to have GA need at low tier you can plonk your main pilot in there and get to work, also for the purpose of gunner training too if you need some.

Once you are accustomed to flying you might want to consider the Yak-3RD. Don't let its single gun fool you, it hits as hard as three or even four guns in its tier.

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
I am deaf, silent, and fly with unrealistic controls. Do not count on me to carry - my back's already broken from overweight.

Bsh-1 before the Lbsh. 8 bombs, rear gunner, forward firing guns shoot all day. Great low tier premium GA. The P40 M105 is fun.

I'd still pick the LBSh for the higher EXP payout and the possibility of getting achievements while staying in low tier bracket...the chance's slim, but everything counts in the quest for tokens.

P-39 is fast becoming one of my favorite premiums in the game, tier for tier. It's a tier 6, so it's relatively inexpensive, and has the great combination of above-average maneuverability and the 37mm derp gun that you find on the Yak-7 line. Once you learn how to consistently hit with that, you can have hilarious games with the P-39. Good pilot trainer, pretty good moneymaker, great fun to play. Do recommend. It's a solid buy.

Yeah so right now I'm grinding to the MIG-15bis ()))()for bias comrade)))))

I am leaning pretty heavily towards the P-39, since not only does it have pretty good maneuverability, its derp cannon will (hopefully) help me get ready for the higher tiers where there is nothing but heavy slow firing cannons. Thanks for the help!

That Airacobra is very good. So is the Yak 3-RD. I tried the LA-11 and hated it; much too slow in a game where there are a lot of jets. I have little experience with the GA russian planes, so no advice there. If cost did not enter the picture, I would take that Yak 3-RD. It's just fun to play with that rocket, it's maneuverable and the single cannon is good enough.

If you know the bnz then the 302 might be for you.  Although it has a short boost the plane does accelerate very quickly while boosting and boost recharges fast as well.  Add a radiator, a light weight airframe, and either a sight or a skin covering to round out the equipment.

La-11 is not fast but rather twisty with a good range.  Work in it's altitude range, draw down the high fliers, and sucker them into a turn fight.

I also have the bnz but not as boosty 260 which does well with its health gobbling 57mm long range cannon.  I built it out with all the maneuverability equipment and a sight.  Seems to work.

I have bought premiums to get past the "dailies".  I guess that means they are working as intended.  TBH the T8 tree planes seem to be better overall than the t8 premiums.

This is very intentional, and very necessary.

302 is awesome. Yak-3RD is awesome. P-39Q is awesome. I-260 is pretty decent; the airframe itself is mediocre, but the 57mm derp gun is just hilarious. La-11.... I do not find La-11 to be much good since 2.0. It bleeds way too much speed in turns and struggles to keep guns on target in a tier where jets are starting to become common. I used to love it, but now I think I've grounded mine until something changes.

Been good since CBT, OBT, live, 1.9, even now...

Ramjet isn't exactly true jet propulsion, but hey, it looks cool on a biplane...
