As you can see I have researched both the P51A and the P-38J.  The P-40 is elite but the P38F isn't.  Curious as to why?

Show the upgrades for the P38F you can research, your issue is probably there.
Heard on the forum.  "1.9 was a hardcore air combat sim.  And it had a lead indicator"  HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup. Planes are only "Elite" if you have researched all of their modules. Every one of them. You don't have to buy them, just research them.

The only advantage is being able to convert exp on that aircraft to free exp. So really, "elite" planes just let you give Wargaming money.

I might be wrong in 2.0, but in the past, not only do you have to research each module on the plane, you also have to research the next plane in the line.  So for example, you would need to research all the weapons/engines/airframes, etc. on the P-38F PLUS research the P-38J in order to elite the aircraft.

You do not need to Purchase all of the modules/planes, but you do need to Research using your plane XP or free XP.

[Edit] Only took me 2 years to figure this out, so you are welcome.

You can also put any future experience towards crew skills if you check the box under the crew tab once the plane is elited.

You are correct, the next plane in the line must be researched before the previous one can be elited. You can see from the OP's screenshot he has the P38J already.

That explains it than, I did not get the AutoCannons 37mm M4 © on her.  I will get them and get back with you.  Yes I was to use the plane to train a Captain, that I just love her.

Yeah, I researched the 37mm but use the 20mm and even in 2.0 that seems to work better.  The 37mm in my opinion just does not fit this plane, but I researched it, tried it out and then returned to the 20mm.  Just seems to sync better with the .50 calibers.

I've used them in the XP-58 Chain Lightning, you best plan your shots on fast movers.  They work best on heavys and bombers.  They do rip them up.

helps with ground targets too, when the rockets are gone.

All this thanks to one of the most stupid design change to the interface ever to grace the world. That checkbox used to be right there in the main screen, then some dude decided that the one-man (up to two-man actaully) crew needs a dedicated tab...a compromise was later made which is the present interface, but the accelerated crew training checkbox stayed in the crew tab, out of sight, out of mind.

WoWP makes a great jousting game...especially with the 262 and people busy in furballs...
