My full Review of WOWP 2.0

In this review I hope to better articulate the negativity of those that don't like the new gamemode and better define the exact issues which cause these criticisms.

Rhetoric in green

I think I've finally realized their purpose with the new gamemode.

They are trying to make the game more accessible to gamers instead of catering to the flight enthusiasts.

I mean let's be honest, why do any of us still play this game that has so many problems? Because it fulfills our fantasies of flying aircraft from WW II that most of us will never be able to fly or even have the pleasure of seeing in real life.

The flight model was simplified in several ways that are very telling.

All aircraft have the same max speed at optimum and sea level altitudes. This is very inaccurate to RL and the current game.

Changing your weapon armament does nothing to affect your maneuverability or airspeed. It only affects your rate of climb by an insignificant amount. This means that there is no point in flying your plane in anything other than maximum configuration, including bombs and rockets.

Maneuverability and climb rate are super inflated and simplified (everything is in nice even numbers) which accelerates the dogfighting (and the game in general). All planes in their respective classes fly generally the same, meaning that a person doesn't need more knowledge of different aircrafts in order to shoot them down in a dogfight. For example I was dogfighting a Ki-43 while I was in a He 112 and it was a human player and I was able to shoot him down.

In the current game this never should have happened but since I was a better gamer I was able to get on his tail. My knowledge of the Oscar's turning abilities should have told me I wouldn't have a chance in a dogfight. Odds are the Oscar pilot didn't know he could out turn me.

Shooting was made harder and easier at the same time. They removed the lead indicator (which is good) and decreased dispersion but increased the muzzle velocity and firerate to compensate (and I highly expect auto aim to be a factor).

Conquest is more objective based, but the aircraft class role is now more strict than ever. Flying your aircraft in anyother manner than what the devs have prescribed (i.e. bomber hunting in my Fw 190D) is counter productive to gaining the most amount of points in a battle. I find I get more points just going in willy nilly and shooting whatever comes into my sights than I do trying to accomplished any certain objective.

Respawns, aircraft are allowed to respawn if shot down before seven minutes have expired. Defence aircraft respawn when the territory switches sides. Ground Targets do the same as well. This is meant to appeal to gamers who play FPS where respawns are common gameplay mechanics as opposed to RL and the current game where if you die that's it. Respawns present several problems. Good players will have ridiculously high kill to death ratios while bad players will not. Ground targets respawning make me feel as a bomber as if I'm making no progress. I have almost no idea if my bombing is doing any good and if I do capture a base I'll just have to fly back and capture it again. Kills are now "ununique", too plentiful (my max is 22 kills in one battle), and hard to keep track of thanks to the UI.

The control scheme. The reticle locking onto the center of the screen in mouse control creates a discrepancy between "flying" and "aiming". While I can understand this helps with aiming with the lack of a lead indicator, the discrepancy breaks up the sense of flight. Making one feel like they are either "flying" or "aiming" when in RL and the current game one needs to fly in order to shoot. The plane moving to the sides of the screen, while an illusion of the camera, and being lower down on the screen, takes away the sense of flight because my mouse movements do not correspond with the movement of the aircraft on my screen. This gives the feeling of the flight being "simplified" and is probably why many people criticize it. Joystick controls are borked up because of the lack of customization options and the very bad default options.

And no cockpit mode (which I've proved can work with my mod for the current game).

All of this combines into a gamemode which is too arcadey and too simplified and is built more towards FPS gamers instead of flight enthusiasts (the audience WG should be targeting).

If I read one more complaint about no clan wars I am going to throw my monitor out the window.

Clan wars would have solved nothing.  "End game content" would have solved nothing.

The current player base has shown again and again that they have no interest in actual human on human competitive games.

Clan wars would have been a joke and would have added nothing to the game unless it was implemented long before the base shrank to 400 max online.

And can someone define what "end game content" would mean for this game?  What, would it have been a "boss bot" plane like a super bomber that would take 10 tries to kill it?  Yeah, imagine that as the ultimate panacea for this game.

Sorry, but 2.0 is basically your end game.  Happy?  Personally, I am.  It's what most players have actually wanted whether they know it or not.  A bot-fest killing spree with extra sprinkles on top.

World of Tanks -  Clan Wars (Almost every night), Strongholds, Tournaments, Ranked battles, earned personal reserve options, No Bots, on Average, 20,000 Players, on every single day 7 days a week, their players have several ways to earn gold without actually having to pay for it all the time like we do here in gold old WOWP(S).  Per capita WOT'S has just as many bad players if not more whining just as badly about the mean old good players, and here's a secret for you, they still have 3 man platoons, Amazing -  Now throw your monitor out the window.

I don't see cool promotional video's of Ghost, like they do for Meathead - Poor Ghost -

Again, IF World of Warplanes had parity with World of Tanks from the beginning -

  • Population problem would have been solved
  • There would have been no need for bots.
  • And woe the weeping and gnashing of teeth – Bad players would still be crying about three man flights!

But here we are –

Barely 400 players at any given time if we’re lucky! Etc. etc…..

P.S. If Wargaming advertised World of Warplanes Several times on National TV as World of Tanks, 1,000's of Magazine published advertisings - I guess that may have helped too! Instead WOWP's has us make planes out of cakes and pastries - And  play flying saucers, and Godzilla and his friends were super imposed on our in game back ground - Who remembers that crap?

Mars - GP - I know one of you have a screen shot of that -  Someone! Thanks

Hey - Did someone say Combat Helicopters - TT, did you hear the sounds of the rotors?

People still playing this game . The last time I played was about 100 people or so, the game is dead, it sucks. WG has FUKED up this game so much and all they do is FUK it up more and more. FUK WG and all the [edited]morons who work there.

Yeah.. you tell em! lol

I defended this game for the longest time. But, not even I can defend it with this latest travesty. It's a shame. This game was really fun! I'm not THAT prone to addictions, and I still logged almost 8k battles. In my life, it's the game I have invested the most amount of hours. I even invested more hours into WoWP than I did on any Civilization game, and I would go on 12 hour marathons with Civ 2, 3, & 4.  More hours have been spent in this game than getting multiple levels of prestige in any of the Call of Duty games. The only game that will overtake it is Tanks eventually. Damn... WG, you done messed it up for us.

Yeah.

About that.

In such a long line of text I thought it convenient to the reader to be able to quickly at a glance discern fact and opinion.

What a world we live in.

I can only agree, this 2.0 is no fun at all

Is it not part of gaming?? to have fun??

Yes I do hear the sounds of helicopter rotors because I found what WG gave up on when it comes to Warplanes....the thrill, the chase, the catch

There is no challenge, competition mode??? lol whatever!!!

I can do nothing and win in 2.0, I can shoot down 11 aircraft and win in 2.0....WHAT ??? LOL WOW WHAT A NIGHTMARE

Keep supporting all positive comments Ghost, keep ignoring comments that suggest the other, and i'll see you at the unemployment line jamming "working for a living" cause i'll still have a job after this mess is released

Great review, sir! Unfortunately, I don't think they're listening as much as we'd all like them to.
