This suggestion is about making the comms function smoother, which will affect overall game likability. This can be done by using color or shape coding on a player call sign, which informs as to availability status, such as in queue, in battle or afk. 

Many times wasted messages are sent in the contacts list or in channels such as the clan chat venue.

It frequently happens that annoyance and frustration are felt, when we blindly send private messages to someone who cannot receive it on a timely basis, if at all. This is because they are not present in the hangar; being in queue, in battle or simply afk. This often results in a flight request or other question/statement being unread. 

It seems rather practical that color coding or symbol shape could be used in the channel display of a player's call sign, which easily denotes their status - in hangar, in queue, in battle, afk, etc. The afk symbol could be triggered by clicking a couple of dedicated keys. Maybe even, Control and "a .. f .. k" would do it?

In the real world we can look around to know if someone is up in the sky or maybe gone to the cafe for a coffee( afk ).  Here we need some contrived aid. I have a hunch this is practical without using a lot of game coding or taking significant resources.

What do other players think? Any other such suggestions?

Queue is the same as hangar, messages can be sent and received.

 

It would be nice to know when people are in battle, like if you send a message or flight invite.

 

Not sure what you could do about AFK though.... maybe if someone hasnt touched their keybord in 5 minutes... they go into an 'Idle' mode.

 

This is all great, but there are many other more important things to fix before this should be implemented.
