I've been seeing this term "speedhack" thrown about a lot in game.

Most recently by a Javelin pilot whom I shot down while I was flying an F-86.

Setup

I was at high altitude in an F-86, at full mil, looking for targets of opportunity.

I spot a Javelin, flying the opposite direction flying maybe 1,000m above me with a red fighter trailing behind him about 1500m below him.

I figure, what the heck, take out the high flyer, deal with the others later.

So I bunt, unloading my plane as I turned to intercept.

Before we merge, I lit the can and pulled into an easy half loop, which terminated with me behind the Javelin.

Somewhere during that maneuver the Javelin moved deep into the .50's firing range and I cut loose with them.

The Javelin lit the cans and attempted to evade with a sloppy wide looping turn (not sure here exactly what kind of turn, I was kinda engrossed with keeping my speed but I know he turned because I had a really nice view of the Jav's delta wing)

I followed, disengaged the burner and cut inside his turn while continuing to fire.

At this point he gives up the turning fight and just bugs out, I dutifully re-light the can and follow, still continuing to pepper him with my little BB's of death.

A few seconds later, his bus had picked up a fair bit of speed and was now almost at the outer edge of my effective weapons range and he blew up.

This was soon followed with an accusation of CHEATER and SPEED HACK.

So comes my question

WHAT THE F* is a SPEED HACK

And to the Jav pilot,

1.You got caught flying high and fairly slow.

2. The F-86 does not loose speed as much as you think it does if you don't put too many G's on it during a maneuver.

3. when you turned, (and I know you turned because I had to move my nose in order to keep hitting you) I was able to cut inside inside your turn and fly a shorter path which negated your speed difference.

4. The boost on the F-86 was enough to reduce your speed advantage and kept you inside the range of the .50's long enough to let me kill you.

That is why I was able to shoot you down.

Not a speedhack or cheat.

Sorry, I tend to get annoyed by this because if I was using hacks, my kill ratio would be a lot higher.

I take some pride in my kills as I work at it.

As in during the match, I'm constantly trying to predict where the opposing player will be, what they'll be doing to counter my move.

All the while keep track of my own bird's status, where it is, where everybody is.

What's my speed, angle,

Is the bandit closing or moving away,

Do I need to put the nose down for for a low yo-yo and grab some speed

Is my 6 clear.

What do I need to do to make this guy bleed E while keeping my own.

Is he out turning me, if so, I need to switch to an energy fight.

What's my E, can I even switch to an energy fight.

End rant

DICTA BOELCKE for WoWP
    1. Try to secure the upper hand before attacking.
    2. Always continue with an attack you have begun
    3. Open fire only at close range, and then only when the opponent is squarely in your sights
    4. You should always try to keep your eye on your opponent, and never let yourself be deceived by ruses
    5. In any type of attack, it is essential to assail your opponent from behind
    6. If your opponent dives on you, do not try run away from his attack, but fly to meet it
    7. When over the enemy's lines, always remember your own line of retreat
    8. It is better to attack in groups of four or six. Avoid two aircraft attacking the same opponent

Speedhack is a commonly seen hack used in other MMO's, notably those who's gaming engines can be modified by 3rd party programs.

It allows a user to increase the speed by which they travel, allowing slow movers to catch fast movers and also to allow a user to very quickly move from one gaming area to another.

However, WG doesn't use a gaming engine that can be modified by the players.

This is true. WHile I'm sure there are some games out there where something like this would be possible. Its not with the way we have our games set up due to server side processing.

I remember back in my Dark Age of Camelot and Diablo II days, you'd see players flying along at warp speed.

Many moving so quickly that they appeared to be teleporting.

We really miss seeing you on the tanks forums GP, if you're allowed to pop over there and say hi, it'd probably cheer a lot of people up ;)

a speed hack is an ego band aid for crappy pilot skilz

if the pilot's good, see, I mean, if he's really..sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low [he spreads his arms like wings and laughs],

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.

I know exactly who the OP is talking about as I had a similar encounter with him today myself. I've run into the same player several times in the past and have never seen him lose without crying "Hack!"

He seems quite familiar with the Caps Lock key, and is no stranger to foul language. Somehow, he just hasn't made my contact list.

Recruiting has been closed since I created CLOWN. To put it in WG terms: Working as intended.

:honoring:
