Hello pilots,

Mod Updated to Version 0.3 (unreleased, please read the bottom of the post)

WOWP Cockpit View Mod. This mod creates a cockpit view for some planes.

 

Compatibility:

WOWP v 1.9.11.0


 

What's been updated:

- Added 10 new cockpits

- Completely removed glass fogginess, you now have an unobstructed view out the canopy


 

List of available aircraft (19):

P-40, P-51A, P-51D, P-51H, P-47B, P-47N, XP-72, P-38J, F4F, Bf-109E, Bf-109G, Bf-110E, Fw 190 A-1, Fw 190 A-5, Ta-152, Spitfire-I, LaGG-3(34), Bsh-2, A6M2


 

List of Features:

- Streamlined coding to minimize aircraft_camera_presets.xml file size.

- Camera pivots in place instead of going out of the cockpit when you look around with the hat switch.

- Pilot models removed, so no creepy hands inside the cockpit.

- Four levels of zoom inside the cockpit, including a sniper view.

- Camera doesn't lag behind when rolling the aircraft.

- Changing the field of view in settings under the battle tab no longer removes the instrument panel.

- Flying close to the ground no longer causes the camera to shift down.

- Unobstructed view out the canopy.


 

For joystick users only! I'll do my best to make this work for mouse controls but the game is being very difficult in this regard.

The pros of the mod:

A better sense of control and a significant edge in close in dogfighting. And its just really cool to be able to fly from the seat of the plane.

Cons:

Poor visibility. All deflection shots are basically aiming at the lead indicator without being able to see the target. The appearance of the glass is very foggy and milky on low graphics.

Warning, compatibility issues with other mods: This mod may be incompatible with skin mods because it uses and overwrites the aircrafts xml which is also used for textures. Feedback suggest that it is a possibility that the mod is incompatible with HryunoMod.

 

Features that I will be adding:

A cockpit view for every plane.

Fixing the foggy glass problem. completely resolved

Instructions for installation:

Download the file "mnbv_fockwulfe's cockpit camera mod v0.2.zip" from dropbox.

Go to your WoWP folder and copy the scripts, vehicles, and maps folders to \res_mods\1.9.11

Copy the Clear_Cache_wowp.bat (author Zapperguy) file to the desktop and double click if the mod doesn't work the first time.

The explanation.

This version of the mod, v0.3, I have not uploaded for public use. I have edited the main post for continuity's sake, as I have rekindled my efforts to make the mod compatible for 2.0. I have mostly succeeded. However, there is one last obstruction to me re releasing the mod. And that is the effect of the camera zooming in and out as the aircraft changes speed. This causes the camera to move in and out of the cockpit, meaning the body of the airplane itself obstructs the view out the front of the plane. I sent a message to Priolia a few days ago asking for her to relay my plea for help to the developers, but she hasn't read the message yet and the devs haven't been too active on the forum lately. It may be some time before help comes.

I've tried the latest version but I couldn't see the cockpit view ? Within the zip file there is a file with a .db extension, file size is 0 kb, that got deleted after starting the game, was this my problem ?

Yes, there has to be the file: cacheddb.bin in the db folder or the mod won't work. If it still deletes it, you can create your own by going to the res\scripts\db folder and copying the cacheddb.bin file in there and pasting it in the res_mods\1.9.11\scripts\db folder. After you do that, use a text editor like notepad and delete everything inside of the cache. Then use Zapper's WOWP cache clearer and it should work.

 

edit: hold on, I think I misunderstood your question. I'm going to make a zipped version of the files myself so I know what's in them and that should make the installation easier.

Here's the thing, its actually really easy for me to make cockpit views now that I know how to do it. I now have views made for the Spitfire I, Bf 109E, Lagg3 34, Bf 110E, P-40, and P-38J. I have 30 odd planes in my hangar, which is the extent at which I can make views before I have to borrow someone's account with more planes. I'm hesitant to release more updates because of the lack of interest. I have only one person that I know of that tried out the mod and gave me feedback. His feedback was negative, showing that of incompatibility. I simply need more people to test this. The other thing that worries me is the 2.0 update. 2.0 is very likely to change a lot of the code in the game and it is a possibility that I may have to relearn how make camera views again. Do I waste time by making views now, when that could be rendered useless in the next month or so?

You haven't wasted your time because you made the mod primarily for yourself. Beside that you've achieved an insight of how things are made.

Sharing your mod with us is very kind.

With yesterday's version of your zip file I was able to fly my BF109E to see the cockpit mode in the training room. I fumbled a bit with the settings and got the reticle fixed in my sight so that gave me some reality. Though I had a hard time to hit anything, but after 17000 battles behind my plane I didn't expect miracles.


 

Instead of adding more light fighters I would add one ground attacker to your collection in order to get the variety and then take a break. As you said, version 2.0 could change everything.


 

If anyone else will give it a try installation is super easy and fast. Removing it is no brainer either. It didn't work with my already installed mods. There was no harm done with my existing installation, it just didn't work. With my computer I'm able to boot different partitions and made a second clean install. You don't need to go in real battles, the training room is fine for feedback and getting a new impression.

Thanks for the encouraging words! And I'm also very glad to hear that its working for you know.

My plan was to make a view for all of my tier V aircraft and release it as v0.2 and then take a break. Unfortunately I don't have any Tier V GA (the class never appealed very much to me) and I'm a bit short on silver. So when I do make a view for a GA, it will have to be after a decent amount of grinding or just have to be satisfied with the Tier 2 Russian GA.

Any other planes I make views for after v0.2 I'll keep to myself. My guess is WOWP 2.0 public test will happen sometime near the end or middle of august.

This is actually really interesting, someone tried doing the same I am doing but on the Russian server! As far as I know, I'm the only one with a released version though. Too bad we are separated by language.

To be able to see the enemy plane while shooting at them, keep the enemy plane in the 45deg low left or right, just above the part where the plane's body covers them up.

It's what we did it IL-2 1946, Aces over Europe, Aces over the Pacific, Falcon 3 and 4 and LoMAC.

 

I don't know if you can do this when flying using a mouse, but I know you can do it when using a joystick and with the rudder controlled by keyboard or other means (roller, slider or pedals)

You are the first person that i know of in the game who accomplished this type of  mod.  +2 .

Your doing awesome work with your mod. You are definitely not wasting your time..

I've encountered a bug where on my screen the plane appears in the right spot but the server calculates that my plane is higher than where I see it. This allows me to fly underneath the map with my plane without receiving damage as seen in the attached screen shot.

I understand that you have experienced a graphic related issue while in game. Let me help you out on this.

For us to investigate further, we have included a download link to our WG Check tool below. This diagnostic tool can be used for World of Tanks, World of Warships, and World of Warplanes.

WGCheck Tool

Once you have downloaded it, open the zip file and run the WGCheck.exe. After it has launched, please select the World of Warplanes icon and locate its directory. The default location is C:\Games\World_of_Warplanes

  • Check the box that labeled, Add game client to the firewall exceptions
  • Check the box that labeled, Extended network diagnostics
  • Start the integrity check by selecting the orange Start Diagnostics button

Be patient, it will take some time to finish.

Finally, please send us the WGCheck log (WoWP_report.wgc) that generates after the program has completed its check.

Please let us know if you still have any questions and clarifications. We will be waiting for your reply.

You don't understand, this is a bug in the programming that needs to be fixed by the development team. The bug is caused by changing the center of Mass tag in the individual aircrafts xml. If you could relay this error to the devs it would serve to increase the quality of the game. To prove you aren't a bot answer this question. Do you prefer cheese or butter on crackers?

While reviewing your logs we noticed that you are using mods.

While mods are allowed (even the ones that seemingly do not provide much of an advantage, or change), we do not officially support them as they are third party programs.

You are welcome to use mods, however,it is possible that they may be the cause of extended load times, game crashes, and other unwanted errors with your game client.

Please keep in mind that we are not responsible for issues caused to the client should you decide to use third party modifications.

We would like you to uninstall and delete/move any mods at this time so that we are working with a clean client until we have completely addressed the problems you are experiencing.

Also, I never tried butter on crackers. I will try that when I get home.

The issue I am experiencing is directly correlating with the "installment" of mods. 
In the version 1.9 of the game, I created a cockpit view mod:

that operated on the principle of setting the <zoomdata> tags in the aircraft_camera_presets.xml file to the position 0, 0, 0. Then in the xml located in scripts/db/aircraft/[Nation]/[aircraft model] I would edit the <center_of_mass> tag to move the aircraft model around in game space so the cockpit was in view of the camera. 
Trying to update my mod for version 2.0, I ran into the issue that modifying the parameters within the the <center_of_mass> tag cause the position of the plane to change on the server, but not on my screen. This was proven by bots shooting at an area above my plane and my plane still recieving damage. 

If I remove the edited aricraft xml the issue doesn't happen anymore. 
So if I were to send you the log without the mod installed, you wouldn't see any issue.

if the pilot's good, see, I mean, if he's really..sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low [he spreads his arms like wings and laughs],

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.
