Howdy, good ol' Chokai. I was just curious, what is y'alls favorite sized weapon in game?

Personally, I loved .303s and .50s for a while. Never could stand the 20mm/.303 mix on the Spits. 20mms on 109s was cool though. I looked forward to 30mm.... but even the upgraded cannon on the 262 HG2 after I tried it I hate. Much prefer the T: X 20mms.

But my true love, was found only at the high tiers. 23mm are easily my favorite outside of the T:X German 20mms. Good range, cheap universal. Only need a couple of them. The Yak-15 is so deadly up close, and can do good damage at range. If I could put those guns on every plane I sure as heck would.

The (not so) amazing Chokai is back! And he's hit all his personal goals sans one! Seriously though, nice to be back, looks like he game is improving. I continue to try to recruit new people.

20mm. Easily one of my fave due to its high critical damage. Also easier to aim and reaches longer ranges than higher calibres especially in high tiers. Hands down one of the best dps guns in the game alongside 50cals.

20mms...the most practical choice and most widely-used.

23mm are available mostly on Soviet planes so I guess they serve as their 20mms...

I prefer MG's, four or more, over cannons because of generally having more bullets/shells in the air at one time which increases the chance to hit.

I can't say they're my favorite (I really have none), but I do love the 57 mm cannons on the IL 20.  Hard hitting, high rate of fire for the caliber, and extremely fast to cool down. I'll take a pair of these on a heavy fighter, TYVM.

I don't think I have a favorite caliber. I definitely have favorite guns/cannons on certain planes. I have fun with the Vulcan cannon on the

F-94D. I also like the top gun configuration on the TA-152, those 30's bring the pain. I don't like the top 30mm on the 209A though. The 45mm cannon on the yak9u brings a smile when it connects.

Fair enough. Since 20mms upgraded to 23 I counted them as different- and I honestly prefer the I-250 and Yak-15 armament of double 23's over even 4x 20s- but I think it's alot of confirmation bias. 4x 20s should do more damage and overheat less. 23 is just a "Super" 20mm, much like Japan has some 13.0mm instead of 12.7, and the USA has multiple types of .50s.

Interesting. Seems like most people like 20s and .50s. That actually suprises me with how much I hear about 30 and 37mm guns, but also makes me happy.

I like having a lesser caliber with a reliable cooldown, and a greater caliber that can be fired separately when the time is right -- such as on the A6M.

I like the 20mm's the most. I think they have the best combination of fire rate, accuracy, and range. I love having four 20mm's together, like on the Corsairs. The only 20mms I hate are the ones on the Hayabusas. They overheat so much just when I'm about to kill someone. They have to be used carefully to avoid overheating.

I do love the bigger cannons as well. The 37mms are so frustrating to use yet so awesome when they finally get a hit. The 50mm on the Ju-88 is fun too. It never hits planes... but when it does... instakill on any smaller planes.

The bigger cannons are great, but man are they difficult to land a shot. Once you do though you take a huge chunk of the enemy plane off! (Health anyway) I tend to like the lower cal. higher rate of fire weapons, like the 8 12.7mm machine guns on the P-47. :)

I highly appreciate the 37mm cannon on the Lagg-3-37, but I hate the four 37mms on the XP-58, so I cannot say I have a favorite caliber overall.

The XP-58's guns would be fine, if they chain fired....that way you could keep up a steady rate of fire, with three other guns firing in succession whilst the 1st one cycles.  By firing all four together, you're basically praying that dispersion doesn't waste half of your rounds, and waiting for the cyclic.
