I was just wondering how you all like to decorate your aircraft? Do you use a custom made skin? What nose art and emblems do you use? Whats your favorite combination? Do you use them for functionality (Camo) or looks?

I am one that prefers looks over functionality. I usually use the same camo for all the different map types. Not the best way to do things because I don't get the benefit of the camo rating, but they sure are nice to look at.

A couple of my favorites:

Having just recently experimented with custom skins, I have settled on a pattern and colors that may not be historically accurate, but aesthetically pleasing to me.

I would love more camo options. But if no one else in the game sees them but me then what is the point? I use the in game camo that gives me the regular benefits. It is nice to because it helps to mix it us some so I am not bored of the same paint job. I do wish there were more camo options in game though or more premium camo options like in WOWS.

So I'm sort of new to the game, how do I use custom skins? I've watched quickybaby's vids for a long while and have seen custom skins and signatures lots of times but when I finally actually tried WoT PC I could not find how to use/make them. Would someone enlighten me on how to use these custom skins or camos/signatures? If it's a mod then I'm out of luck as I make it a habit not to use em. Thanks

Top middle of your hanger screen you see a section titled paint shop. Click it and make selections. Pay for them with credits or gold. Custom skins requires a mod usually.

Nose art and emblems are sort of on a case by case basis....sometimes I use 'em, sometimes not. I rarely use the same combination twice.

I do, however, have the Phoenix emblem on all of my aircraft now, since my return to the game.

My favorite in-game camo:  Marine camo for the Ha-137 V1

My 2nd favorite in-game camo, was actually a non-concealment paint for the IL-10, from a War Cache event.

Unfortunately, the files for my favorite custom skin for the F4U1 Corsair, made by obamaphone, along with most of the screen shots and images, were lost when my computer imploded. This is the only surviving image.

My 2nd favorite custom skin is the Hungarian Bf-109E made by hawkeyededic.

Dang, I really wanted to do a pattern on one of my planes that was a bunch of Lego 2x4 bricks of 5 different colors all at a Diamond angle interconnecting to cover the hole plane, man that would've been cool:(

The way I created mine, no mod needed (just have to make a backup of the original hangar skin and that's it) since it's just a replacement.

You don't need a mod for the skin. You do need additional files to remove the in-game nation symbols. And there is a mod that can remove your clan tags, so you have a blank plane to apply your skin to.  Basil skins are actually pretty easy.

Every plane I have (218) wears paint of some sort. I just can't bear looking at them 'naked'

I've got a few custom skins, but the vast majority use what's provided in-game. The beta paint is on most that have it available. GAs wear paint specific to the map type for the camouflage benefit.

As far as nose art & emblems, some have it, some don't, just depending on what it looked like to me at the time. Every US plane that has the nose art below (19 currently), wears it. Spitting image of my wife.

I usually fly my planes naked. The plane, not me. I have been gifted and won some paint and art. I do use those.

I use all four camo types on each plane to get the full concealment benefit whatever map I'm on. Wish there was more selection though, instead of just 1 working option per season. I usually have nose colours added as a national trait. For example my Russian planes usually have red noses, The French have light blue, the Japanese planes have black, etc... . And I use emblems like a signature for my various pilots. My main US. pilot always has the shark emblem on his planes, my main German pilot has the knight's helmet, my Russian aviatrix has the flying witch, and so on.

I'd like to see some more in-game camouflage options also. I'd be happy to pay GOLD for new ones that WG produces as long as they look like the ones shared above. Personally, I'd prefer more historically correct symbols and paint jobs, or something sporty. The little cartoon birds and such are a bit dumb looking, rather childish, and besides there are many players here over the age of 40 who aren't interested in goofy little cartoon symbols. Real symbols? Yes.

I have several custom skins I use. Unfortunately, I can't see my own skins in game because I fly 1st-person-only. So, I enjoy them in the hangar & during replays.

this

but in the end it doesn't matter because it's something you enjoy in hangar (except for the camouflage bonus that seems not to work for bots)

I only use the GOLD camo on GA's

I am not really into playing dress up with my toons.

I prefer just getting into the game and flying around shooting stuff.

The mortician can do all the dress up and making me look good after I am dead, which by the way is quit frequently.
