The thought occurred to me that a more intellectually excepting forum could be achieved if the names of the persons posting were omitted. Anonymity in posting and responding to posts, would allow for a freer exchange of ideas, void of previous biases. I for one have found myself less open-minded when it comes to some posters. Dismissing their ideas without giving them a fair reading, based purely on who they are. This does them and myself a disservice, as they may be making a very good point. Additionally trolling would become far less commonplace as the standard targets would no longer be obvious.

The drawback would be a far less entertaining forum. Currently posts often deteriorate immediately into quick draw insults, chest thumping, medal polishing and scurrilous innuendo. I feel many are not here to exchange ideas or discuss game play. As much as they are here to perpetuate discord with a certain someone/anyone or invoke irritation indiscriminately. I know its mostly in good fun, but someone new may not. Sadly the omission of personal grudges and trolling in general, would leave us with a far less entertaining and much more vanilla forum. That is not what I want either.

The question is which or what parts are more productive for the game? Are new players drawn and retained to these forums by a wild west show or a night out at the theatre? I don't know...a little of both I guess. I do know that I have seen the same names for two years with very few new additions. This may be perfectly understandable as the player base hasn't improved. However, with the coming of 2.0 we may see a increase in those seeking further knowledge of the game. Maybe some change is in order. What do you gentlemen (I use the term quite loosely) think?

I'm finding myself doing the same in regards to a few certain posters.

The problem is that they often start with a good solid valid point, but as soon as they've typed that, they go straight back into the same nonsense they spew out on a regular basis.

Or they offer a good point, but decide to contradict themselves in the same paragraph.

yep... so that is why we use history, to save time and to kill the correct enemy... because we know who they are from past encounters hehe

Some posters do provide helpful advice and good technical details.  Well, actually not, they are all a bunch of wankers.

We have enough trolls without them being anonymous.

I used to have a handle on life until it broke off.

To Troll or not to Troll. I could routinely post reply's like "Another Whiner Post" or something even more silly with expletives edited out, etc.

No I believe we have another worthless content already without adding the "mystery" to it all.

If you want free exchange of ideas, then perhaps there is a forum on another game platform for that...but I think not.

We would still know certain people's posts regardless of anonymity.

I have noticed some people only post in one sentence increments.

Agreed, you'd have to be deaf, blind, and stupid not to notice who is the ever constant

You know who whines about being unable to strike down a Ga, who can't fly the Yak-30, and of course the loser child who has to insult others just to make him feel better about his pathetic life

We all carry a distinction which I do feel makes us all special in our own way and there is no hiding who we truly are

A good idea if you've never visited our forums Rosey but sadly newcomers are hard to find these days

I always take it from the fun side. Some topics are getting old but people respond over and over again. Some people seem to love repetition.

In all fairness the forum is a good place for new comers. An open minded question has always received appropriate help without trolling.

I'm not so hot on this.

I really think that the problem so many have with "trolls", and the general "i hate your face" stuff is because of the anonymity of the internet. Make it more anonymous and you will get worse behavior and not better. There are no real consequences for bad behavior and the positive reinforcement set out by the company is a little lacking.

Anonymous posting ?

I was always under the impression that the ( this ) forum was anymouse.

You do not know where I live.

If we visited the same place at the same time and sat next to each other we would not know it.

Would taking the names away form the posters change anything ?

Personally I would not have a reason to troll anyone anymore.

I troll a post to make someone angry. Using psychological warfare in the matches.

Sometimes it makes them come straight for me and try to take me out first.

Sometimes it gives me the advantage, sometimes it backfires.

The best part about trolling is seeing how someone responds to the stimuli.

Would hiding the names change the amount of trolling.

My opinion is that trolling would increase.

Think about it. No one to take responsibility for a response. No accountability.

With names visible we are accountable ( limited as it may be )  for our actions in the forums.
