So far all my attempts to participate have ended in failure.  The three times I was able to log in, The wait times were so long, it timed out before I can get into a match.  For the last week, however, I haven't even been able to log in, it says the server is unavailable.

I originally got to wargaming.net in order to play World of Warplanes and I've been a regular player for some years.  I have been saddened by the slow decline I've seen in the number of players and I had high hopes that this new update might reinvigorate the game.

Starts September 14 04:20 PT / 07:20 ET
Ends September 24 14:00 PT / 17:00 ET

  • How quickly did you gain an insight into the rules of the new game mode? - Took a few battles to get a grip
  • Are there any aspects in the rules that are still unclear to you? If yes, please specify them. -
  • Which aircraft types did you try? - fighters, heavy fighters, multi role, so far
  • Which aircraft type did you like to play most of all? Why? - fighter, multi role, they dont get shot down as easily
  • Which aircraft type did you like to play least of all? Why? - Heavy fighters, didnt do so well with them
  • Did you fly bombers? If yes, please describe your impression of the following:
    • Bombers as an aircraft type in general
    • Controlling a rear gunner
    • The new bombing mode
  • How would you assess the general atmosphere of the game? In your opinion, is the game spectacular? - It seems more arcade like to me
  • Did you want to join a new battle once a previous battle was over? - I did
  • How big do you think your personal contribution to the outcome of a battle was? Why? - Some battles it was very big because we won and I did well, sometimes not so well.
  • Which of your decisions do you think helped bring your team to victory? - Staying at a site until locked.
  • Please specify briefly what you liked most of all during the game test? - Graphics and sounds.
  • Please specify briefly what you liked least of all during the game test? - Lack of the Battle settings tab.  I can live without the plane lead reticle and the unavailability of a different aiming reticle, but I need attitude indicator, radar as far as telling me who I have targeted would be nice.
  • Please describe your first impression of the following aspects of the game:
    • Opportunity to respawn in the same battle - This is ok but I can see the campers lining up....
    • Interaction (or its absence) with other players - Would like to see who is in the battle and who I am shooting at.
    • Graphics and visual effects - These are actually awesome
    • Music and sounds - havent noticed music, sounds, like graphics are awesome
    • Aircraft control - seems jerky at times
    • Spatial awareness - seems the same
    • Shooting - Miss having different reticle
  • Did you face technical (or any other) difficulties when playing the game? - Not really, except for the server being down as I type....

Sorry if it is too late for do this:

  • How quickly did you gain an insight into the rules of the new game mode?
        I did it very quickly.
  • Are there any aspects in the rules that are still unclear to you? If yes, please specify them.
Playing as it was;  mostly against bots; the only thing it is unclear to me is how to manage to direct the bots to the target I want.
  • Which aircraft types did you try?
         I tried all.
  • Which aircraft type did you like to play most of all? Why?
Fighters.  I think it was the best way to influence the battle.
  • Did you fly bombers? If yes, please describe your impression of the following:
Yes I did; but I don't like they
    • Bombers as an aircraft type in general
i get bored flying high and releasing bombs one time and another.
    • Controlling a rear gunner
I got to use it a couple of time. boring.  Too arcadey.
    • The new bombing mode
Easy to understand but as I said BORING.
  • How would you assess the general atmosphere of the game? In your opinion, is the game spectacular?
Some things like explosions of AA are good.  Far better than in the common mode. No; it is not spectacular;  but I don t expected it to be.
  • Did you want to join a new battle once a previous battle was over?
  •      More or less.  Being so few people (in the best battle I participated we were 4 humans; 2 per side) the long tiime to load after a battle made me play 3 or 4 battles a day.  :(
  • How big do you think your personal contribution to the outcome of a battle was? Why?
The humans were desisive in my opinion
  • Which of your decisions do you think helped bring your team to victory?
It depends in the type of plane I were using.  Using attackers or bombers against AA first; or hunting humans first using multis or fighters.
  • Please specify briefly what you liked most of all during the game test?
I like this kind of "tactical" spin in which you can influence the battle by choosing the targets but it couldn't get the most of it becuase the low population (25-36 humans)
  • Please specify briefly what you liked least of all during the game test?
The flight mechanics; the loose of fly sensation; the sound (HORRIBLE).  Even the colour (or gamma)  of the planes; I don t know if it is me or it seemed to be "washed out".  How unnecesary it was to know my plane
strong ponts in order to fight the other plane cause everyone seem to fly in the same way is TERRIBLE (killing the game)
  • Please describe your first impression of the following aspects of the game:
    • Opportunity to respawn in the same battle
I don t like it; but in this kind of long battle it is needed.
    • Interaction (or its absence) with other players
It s absence decreases the "bullying" but I missed the chat with friends.
    • Graphics and visual effects
I think that they were washed out; like decoloured. May be the gamma chosen IDK.  The AA explosions are far better then the original making more real the flight (strange touch of reality)
    • Music and sounds
I mute music in every game.  The sounds are really awfull.
    • Aircraft control
The wonderful sensation of be flying and the response (varying between every plane)  that has the original mode is totally loose in the conquest mode.  This is THE worst point in the conquest mode.
    • Spatial awareness
           Near zero spatial awareness
    • Shooting
I got no problems in shooting without the reticle.  Could live without that.
  • Did you face technical (or any other) difficulties when playing the game?
Only the high times to come back to hanger.

Pd:  I wish to add that a lot of experienced players I asked if they try the new mode answered me "NO" and a lot not even know what I was speaking of.  This leave this feed back to a lot of people that haven'tt played the original game so far to have a complete panorama that allow they to make a propper comment.
I think WG must not delete the original game and improve it in the way we the users have been claiming for long time.

  • How quickly did you gain an insight into the rules of the new game mode?  I really only got the basics of how it worked; how one side was winning was often unclear to me.
  • Are there any aspects in the rules that are still unclear to you? If yes, please specify them.  How is victory calculated? Why do the bot bombers come?  How are defending bots spawned?  How are your actions helping the team win?
  • Which aircraft types did you try? Bombers, heavy fighters, fighters, multi-role fighters.
  • Which aircraft type did you like to play most of all? Why? I tried them all a few times each;  I never found one that felt right for me.
  • Which aircraft type did you like to play least of all? Why? Basically all of them where difficult to fly, felt sluggish, and I couldn't tell the state of the aircraft.
  • Did you fly bombers? If yes, please describe your impression of the following: yes
    • Bombers as an aircraft type in general Fun the first couple times, but after that it's hard to see how you're helping.
    • Controlling a rear gunner That was actually fun, but I think bombers should have a crew of two humans if you're going to allow the gunner to be human.
    • The new bombing mode Novel, but not very fun.
  • How would you assess the general atmosphere of the game? In your opinion, is the game spectacular? Yes, but not anymore so than the current game.
  • Did you want to join a new battle once a previous battle was over? Only because I was trying to figure out what to do.  The battle itself wasn't particularly fun, especially after a few respawns had spread the team out all over the map.
  • How big do you think your personal contribution to the outcome of a battle was? Why? I really couldn't tell; which is frustrating.
  • Which of your decisions do you think helped bring your team to victory? I have no idea; some games I did well and we lost, other games I sucked and we won, and I don't know how I actually contributed to victory / defeat in either case.
  • Please specify briefly what you liked most of all during the game test? I liked the bot bomber formations that would try to hit our ground installations, it was fun intercepting them.
  • Please specify briefly what you liked least of all during the game test? The aircraft control and handling is HORRIBLE!
  • Please describe your first impression of the following aspects of the game:
    • Opportunity to respawn in the same battle I generally liked it, but I think that people who are badly damaged and get shot down before the re-spawn is stopped have an advantage over people who are badly damaged but survive into the "storm".
    • Interaction (or its absence) with other players There was none really.  I only ever saw one other human player in any of the games I played.
    • Graphics and visual effects As good as they already are - I didn't notice any improvement or degradation.
    • Music and sounds Not as good as the current game.
    • Aircraft control HORRIBLE
    • Spatial awareness Terrible.
    • Shooting I actually like this better than the current game.  Maybe an option to leave the lead circles but reduce accuracy when they are on to help newer players get the hang of it?  I thought the tracer effects and hit flashes were awesome; reminded me a lot of the descriptions of dog-fighting in the book "Nine Lives".
  • Did you face technical (or any other) difficulties when playing the game? No.

  • How quickly did you gain an insight into the rules of the new game mode? - It is not obvious how the game is to be played. Concept of "area" capture in air warfare very counter-intuitive.
  • Are there any aspects in the rules that are still unclear to you? If yes, please specify them. -I have to say yes, however I have not "researched" how to play.....and to me that is not a good start to a game re-release.
  • Which aircraft types did you try? - fighters, heavy fighters, multi role, bombers
  • Which aircraft type did you like to play most of all? Why? - All
  • Which aircraft type did you like to play least of all? Why? - GA in this mode was not very satisfying
  • Did you fly bombers? If yes, please describe your impression of the following:
    • Bombers as an aircraft type in general Okay in this mode
    • Controlling a rear gunner Never did, seems like a gimmick, maybe if I played more with rear gunners
    • The new bombing mode Meh not anything special. Does not seem to be a groundbreaking feature, or better than pre-2.0 GA bombing.
  • How would you assess the general atmosphere of the game? In your opinion, is the game spectacular? - Simply, No. Very antiseptic, not immersive, controls were oddly "stiff", could be because RU server?
  • Did you want to join a new battle once a previous battle was over? - I did, but I played about a dozen games or slightly more, and played some planes I have never flown before because I have not ground up a single line as much as across the lines. Pre-2.0 T8 was max skill level I could take and feel like I was doing something occasionally. 2.0, T10 games
  • How big do you think your personal contribution to the outcome of a battle was? Why? - I never thought I made a difference. Sometimes I won, sometimes I was shot down, sometimes I had fun, but I never felt like I was making a difference, not like pre-2.0
  • Which of your decisions do you think helped bring your team to victory? - Flying around in some airspace over a site and not chasing planes does not feel right.
  • Please specify briefly what you liked most of all during the game test? - Graphics and sounds were different, and some effects were very nice.
  • Please specify briefly what you liked least of all during the game test? - Not enough of a feel of flying, no airspeed/altitude cockpit controls made it seem very bare and gamey.
  • Please describe your first impression of the following aspects of the game:
    • Opportunity to respawn in the same battle - Really this makes no real sense to me
    • Interaction (or its absence) with other players - As I said, antiseptic, maybe in this example more apparent than other aspects.
    • Graphics and visual effects - Nice
    • Music and sounds -  music..I turn off, sounds, do seem better
    • Aircraft control - oddly "stiff" , jumpy, could be because RU server?
    • Spatial awareness - seems the same
    • Shooting - Miss having different reticle
  • Did you face technical (or any other) difficulties when playing the game? - Other than slow loading, I mean REALLY slow. Games are TOO LONG. Too many targets, too many things to do for no real return. I enjoy some sort of historical accuracy, and reloading bombs multiple times is cheesy, HOWEVER if I have to wait so long to get into a game, then I can sacrifice that aspect.

Overall.....

I don't like this mode. I am looking forward to really getting into the game to shake it out, but I am not expecting much. will be waiting for next versions to improve upon this first go round. Would like to see how crew skills and MY plane(s) will react with my quasi skill in flying (which, fundamentally I have no flying skill) and how the grind is going to shake out.

After playing on liver server EU...

Do not like conquest mode,as is.

The game grates against all sorts of expectations of a flying game. Conquest would be far better if it was a rail game, flying from base to base and spawning/replenish at the forward airbase. (because the only reason Conquest exists is to make the individual games "longer") Stop healing targets, and set up the replenishment by flying to a point to regroup, reload, heal and allowing the respawns to occur there. While not landing per say, at least give the impression of a second wave of attacks. This way the games are still longer, but are like 5 mini games with the same people to allow the "revenge" kills etc. I'll work on my concept and present at a future time....

I hope I am wrong and thousands come flocking to the game and support it and Wargaming as a company, however I feel that is a misguided pipe dream as it stands now.
