When I first saw a salute in chat it was 07. After thinking about it and seeing many different renditions I personally chose <o.

The reason I chose <o over the others has to do with how the others look. Don't get me wrong I'm not telling anyone how to salute. Nor am I making fun of anyone's salute. Any salute given in any style is a sign of respect for your opponents and team mates. I just believe there are flaws with the other methods.

07, 0> and o> are backward. You are saluting the other person, therefor they are looking at your characters salute to them. As I look at these I see a left handed salute.

<i looks to me like the arm is coming from the hip of the person saluting.

<0 looks like the arm comes from the chin of the person saluting and the person saluting has a massive head. This one does run a close second to the one I believe is best though.

The process of elimination leaves me with <o as the most believable and esthetically pleasing form of a typed salute in my opinion. However as is the case with every opinion, I could be wrong and will undoubtedly be told so.

o7

Specifically this way because it can be typed more quickly than 07. The 'wrong hand' is being used because in the air force you have to keep one hand (your right hand) on the stick all the time.

Cheers!

It really doesn't matter. I use 07 as it's easier to type. If you ever run into a player that is another name for disgruntled tortoise, that player will go off on you for using 07. It's hilarious.

Isn't that guy practically goes off on anything that resembles a salute...

...and I use whatever I fancy at the moment, typically the opposite way the others is using.

he doesn't go off on you if you salute with <0. I laugh at him and tell him he should be more worried about his flying rather than how to salute. Just to make him more angry.

which ever suites your fancy at that particular moment in time.

There are a plethora of salutes and salutations with in the gaming arena.

Neither are correct nor are they wrong.

I use "o7" - didn't vote, as that one wasn't offered as a choice.

Here's my rationale for using o7 instead of <o.

  1. There is no face on the "o"; therefore, I can only assume that it is the back of my pilot's head and I am giving a right handed salute. (That answer really fires up the aforementioned disgruntled tortoise).
  2. The game is designed to be a 3rd person game where you view your plane from behind. Unless your pilot stands up in his seat and turns 180 degrees to face the back of the plane to salute, then <o makes no sense.
  3. Any attempt at saluting is a sign of respect in this game, and I would never call anyone out for doing it "wrong".
  4. Most importantly... It annoys the disgruntled tortoise. I always salute him again with o7 if I kill him.

:honoring:

How I perceive o7

Pedantic much? No salute is even required.

Is it rude to salute someone if you're not in the military?
if a civilian salutes a military person is that disrespectful?

Best Answer:  Saluting is considered a privilege, not a right. While you may mean well, some service members may see it as disrespectful especially if you do it wrong. The only civilians we salute are the service Secretaries, the Secretary of Defense, and the President. If you want to show your appreciation it would be better if you say thank you and shake their hand.

Because you used a lowercase 'o' their the hand of the '7' is far above what would be the persons head.  Please consider proper hand position and relative scale, or arm to head size ratio.

I have even seen a flamboyant wave used as a salute at the beginning of battle. oY.... I imagine someone waiving like an idiot.... but it suited that person.

if the pilot's good, see, I mean, if he's really..sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low [he spreads his arms like wings and laughs],

you oughtta see it sometime, it's a sight. A big plane like a '52. VRROOM! There's jet exhaust, fryin' chickens in the barnyard.

But your logic is flawed in this because actually at the start of the match both teams are facing into the game map opposing each other so basically face to face so when I type in <o its me facing you from across the map, If your standing up in your cockpit to turn around and salute me then your already dead.............

But you're so far away the enemy could never see it; so, I view it from my perspective, but I put it in white to let the other team know I was thinking of them.
