I have an NVIDIA 970, i7 6700K, 8GB ram etc.

All my other games are running fine at frame rates you would expect from a fairly high end gaming rig (well high-end 18 months ago...)

I jus started playing WOW again.  I am using the HD version.  I am getting 15 FPS @ 2560 x 1440.  I get 20 FPS at 1920x1080.  Lowering the settings helps a little - about 4-5 FPS each time I drop down a level.  I played around with not having the tracking camera view on, etc - made very little difference.  The game is actually playable but obviously not smooth.  I double checked the frame rate using Action as I didn't actually believe it at first.  I seem to recall getting WAY higher frame rates when I was playing ~ 1 yr ago.

Drivers are up to date as of Nov 19 update from NVIDIA.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I do have almost the same specs like you and my FPS is around 100. Run a direct X diagnostic and send the result to support.

I have to follow Spicoli's advice when playing this game.

I have an i5 instead of an i7, and the same card, built about 16 months ago. when I first started playing this game on hd I was getting about 200 fps on average. each successive patch it kept getting lower. now I'm running about 60-90 with drops to 30's which are causing a second pause or so. Im guessing this game needs to be optimized. none of the other games that I have played in the same timeframe has had the fps drop.

I wonder if the game is using onboard video, rather than your 970?

Problem solved, thanks for the replies.  It was actually in all my games.

After some head scratching I realized I installed a new PCIE 4x SSD around the same time I started playing again.  Turns out the slot I had my 970 in shares the PCIE bus and when you plug in the SSD it splits the PCIE channels and drops the speed to PCIE 4x for the 8x slot (8x / 2 - 1/2 goes to the SSD 1/2 to the 8x slot I guess.)

Moved the card to my PCIE16x slot (not sure why I didn't put it there in the first place.)  Voila - 90FPS, all games happy.  And as a nice surprise the SSD is faster AND my temps didn't change but 1/2 my fans don't need to run at all any more unless I am in heavy gaming so noise is way down!  Turns out my 970 was poorly positioned for airflow from the PSU too!

FYI Mobo is ASUS Maximus Gene VII

Help! I don't know what most of you are talking about when it comes to computer specs.

I can hardly play this game anymore as my frame rate drops into the teens and twenties frequently. Both via wifi and ethernet.

My system is: Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ CPU @2.40 GHz; 16.0 GB RAM

My internet speeds are: ~ 200 mbps download and upload 16 mbps upload

I've installed Razor Cortex to help (and it has a bit)

I have Norton 360 Premier as my Antivirus software.

Any suggestions?

FPS is affected by your video card... what are the specs on that?  And what do you have the game graphics setting to? low, med, high, or very high?

That being said, even the best video cards don't perform well on this game compared to other games.  For example this game on high graphics the FPS drops to below 20 several times per battle.  However in other games that are more complex and have bigger maps and more players, on high or very high graphics I average about 75 FPS and don't experience significant drops.

It is not your computer, video card, or internet... it is this game and WG servers.  The game is in dire need of optimization.  When I tested WOWP 2.0 it seemed that I was getting higher FPS than the regular game, the maps and animations are a lot better, so maybe they put some time in for optimization as well.

All that being said.. for gaming... always use Ethernet.

I never lose; either I win or I learn.
